What's the best property, and where would I have the best chance of scoring a same-day hotel room comp?
I guess there are only two "families" of casinos, so choice is between Rainbow/Montego Bay/Peppermill and Red Garter/Nugget.
Thanks for any insight.

I have spent over 50 nights in Wendover. My advice would be the Peppermill. RG and Nugget are garbage. And the bright side is you only have 1055 miles to drive from the Bluffs to get there.

On my visit to Wendover a few years ago I stayed at the Peppermill. Paid $40 for a room on Sunday night. If you can score a room there for around this price it is a decent value.

I was there about five years ago and only for a few hours. It seemed to me everyplace was more or less the same in quality. I'm overdue to go back.

It is one of the few areas of Nevada casino industry to be turning a regional profit. The one company is so dominant, that it would seem that if you will be returning you should go with them.

In May 2012, the gf and I drove thru Wendover on the way to a superb vacation in the greater Reno/Lake Tahoe area. I'm the craps gambler, so I walked in to every casino just to scout the craps tables. (Not impressed.) What we did, was buy Subway Sandwiches, and drive on. We called Wendover "a wide spot in the road with casinos."

It's a great little place. A ride from Reno on I-80 takes one through Winnemucca and Elko which offer quirky stops like the Red Lion and the casino with the Polar Bear. The place is packed to the gills on weekends with a nice party atmosphere. Montego Bay offers the best accommodations.
