Detroit at Thanksgiving - Greektown

We stopped in to the Greektown casino in Detroit over Thanksgiving. VPFree2 showed it
had the best Dueces Wild at 99.7 %, so we went there.
- It was nicer than I thought it would be inside.
- It was very easy to get to from the Highway.
- My wife hit the 4 dueces, so she came out way ahead.
- I lost a little, but hopefully we'll get some offers in the mail. I don't know if this makes
any difference, but I played a lower paytable for a little while to try and get on the list
for better promo's.
- I admit that I don't consider Detroit much of a getaway destination !

As far as a Gateway:
Well, Windsor for sure. The US now requires a passport to get back, as far as I know, and at least
on paper. I have one, but the Mrs and brother-in-law ( who came along ) don't.
We have been to the Canadian casinos in Niagara Falls. If you ever get up there, one of the coolest
attractions in the Jet Boat.

The passport requirement is a necessary evil. The exchange rate and the passport requirements really killed tourism in Niagara Falls and in Windsor in general (where the only tourist attraction IS the casino).

Okay, it pretty much is just the casino.

Well, I put about $15-20K daily once a week through on dollar VP back when they had the good pick 'em games, which they don't have anymore, so your mileage may vary. You might get something for quarter play if you play heavily on certain days -- Harrah's is an enigma. They are more generous then most, though.
BTW, Greektown no-mailed me after playing their $.25 NSUD exclusively for the last couple months. Before I was getting 4x$20 or 4x$25. No hotel. That was with a couple thousand coin-in once a week.

Well I guess I won't hold my breath for a good mailer. But you never know. We got
3 free nights from Rio this past summer, and I have no idea why. That didn't stop
us from staying there, though ! In fact, when I called to see what the rate would
be for the 4th night, they gave us that free also.
We don't play that much at Belterra in Indiana, and we ( at least the Mrs ) usually
are able to get a couple free nights there, Sun - Thur. The hotel there is VERY
nice, and they also have NSUD with a progressive.

We got a mailing, probably just for being new slot club sign-ups.
It wasn't good enough to make a trip back there, I think a whopping
$ 5 in free play. Although it did include an $ 89.99 rate for a hotel
room, which is probably pretty good for a nice hotel in downtown
of a major city.

Since the issue of having to have a passport to get into Canada emerged I thought I'd chyme in. In Washington state we have EDL's (enhanced driver's license) - These are used as everyday driver's license but also allow us to get into Canada. You show your birth certificate when at the DoL, that was really the only difference. Are we the only state that has something like this?
