Revel made a big fuss when it opened that it would have NO player-loyalty card tiers or statuses. Everyone would get the same sleek white Revel card.

This was not well thought out for several reasons, not the least of which being that at opening, Revel's all-white player cards looked exactly the same as Revel's all-white room keys.

Soon the room keys were changed to solid black.

And then to the very tacky "Gamblers Wanted" theme:

Back to the point -- Revel quickly abandoned the no-tiers stance, and introduced three levels of status: Ocean, Beach, and Pearl. These ridiculously named tiers are listed in ascending order of value.

Here were the benefits for each tier level of the old "new" system:

Now, for some reason, those three tiers are being scrapped, and Revel is introducing its THIRD loyalty/status program in two years. Notice that market-leader Borgata has had the exact same tier and status system since it opened ten years ago.

The new system rebrands the tier levels as bland, generic, misspelled color levels: "Blu," Gold, Platinum, and Black, again in ascending order. Why "Blu" is "Blu" and not "Blue," I can only assume, is that after two rounds of bankruptcy, Revel cannot afford the e at the end.

Here is the benefits matrix for the "new" new system. Note the chart does not indicate at which tier level a player may begin receiving valuable apple pie giveaway offers. According to the mailer, $5 coin-in slot or $10 coin-in VP earns one "tier point."

Click on the image for a bigger, easily readable version.

In typical Revel fashion, its own Revel card Web site is still promoting the exciting announcement of the "old" new card tiers, the Ocean, Beach, and Pearl.

So if Revel cardholders receive Revel's expensively printed, 4-color, 16-page, glossy mailer today, get excited about the new card tiers, and seek more information online, they are greeted with outdated and irrelevant info about Revel's last tier overhaul, which no longer applies.

Ace, did you make "Black"? Also, doesn't "Platinum" sound better than "Black," or is it just me?

Isn't BLACK the Borgata's mid-level?

Yes, Borgata's tiers run Red, Black, and Titanium.

I think Revel's new tiers take effect on Jan 1. So when 6 AM rolls around after your NYE party, I guess you can swipe your card and hope! Because Revel's Web site has no information on the new tiers (even when logged into an account) and probably won't until well after Jan. 1.

I think that their tiers go alongside with the classic rankings widely used for credit cards such as visa, american express and mastercard, where the black card holders are top notch and more prestigious.

I wish somebody would be honest and have a level system like this (from lowest to highest): Flea, guppy, shark, whale.

Using colors, especially black, can lead to some misunderstandings. At rivers once, an old man complained a woman was cutting line and she yelled at him, "I'm black baby!" Everyone laughed because she was black and he didn't understand it. Again, quite the misunderstandings possible using racially similar colors.

I think they should go with Earth, Venus, Mercury, and Sun.

The new revel card web site is now live and extremely buggy -- big surprise.

It turned my old "beach" level card into "gold" -- which is a downgrade, i guess.

it says: "earn 50,000 tier points before dec. 31, 2014 to maintain gold status"

However -- according to Revel's own site, it only takes 4000 tier points to earn gold status.

MAKES NO SENSE!

Another annoyance of mine is when the lowest tier is called something like VIP or "preferred." Who are they trying to fool?

Perhaps you could have Player's Club Cards based on what people do outside of the casino, I propose a Six-Tier program:

1.) The "Entertainment" Card

-Congratulations, you're just an, "Average Joe," one of our regular clientele. We're glad you've enjoyed yourself at the Golden Goose Hotel, Casino, Spa today and we hope to have you back for a repeat visit. We're going to send you some crazy-generous offers that will really surprise you in order to lure you back in here, we have to determine whether or not you have the potential to become...

2.) The "My Wife Doesn't Know" Card

-Excellent, we're glad to see that you make it over to the Golden Goose Hotel, Casino and Spa, well-known for its discretion, at times that your wife may believe that you are watching football with the guys, putting in some overtime at work or picking the kids up from school. Your accounts still look healthy enough for your wife to be in denial, "What? $1,000 Free Play, I don't know why they'd send me that much!" With just a little more work you can receive...

3.) The, "Called Off Work" Card

-This is our second highest tier level at The Golden Goose Hotel, Casino, Spa and this is the card you receive when you are ignoring even your most fundamental duties integral to your survival to spend time here. The only way you would be a better client is if you had started off rich to begin with, but you didn't, so you cannot have the....

4.) The "Lost Everything," Card

-This is a card reserved for only our highest level slots players who were so busy chasing a one million dollar jackpot that they lost two million in the process. It took years of dedication for you to receive this card, but now you finally have it, so you will get preferred seating any time a rustic 80's band comes to town and plays in our showroom. We used to call this card, "Crying Myself to Sleep," before we decided to take a new, streamlined, simple and direct approach when we most recently re-branded our player's club.

The only cards you don't want to get are...

5.) The "AP" Card

-No, we cannot allow this to happen. Please don't hurt us anymore. You play too good of a game for us, sorry, bud. You can play our Roulette game, if you like, the wheel is much better, it has three zeroes now!

6.) The "In Control" Card

-In control of your gambling? Consistently play for only small dollar amounts? You are a PoS waste of space, go F*** yourself!***

***Casinos in Vegas would not have an, "In control," card, I'm basically referring to the attitude I have noticed at smaller local crap holes because this is the type of player I am, when not doing low-risk AP. Except the Craps crew, they're nice to me.
