So who wins and loses the bets?

Quote: toastcmuI love how they quote that allowing smoking will increase revenue dramatically. As if that's the reason they've been struggling.

All those people who play at Caesars and Borgata and the Trop who would have abandoned their status and offers if only they could smoke at Revel will Flock to Revel now!
Doesn't matter to me.... the main thing is that management has done everything wrong that it possibly could have done wrong and has still survived. Corporate managers rarely get punished, political ownership or funding of a casino seems to have little effect. The job gets bungled and the managers get bonuses.Quote: BozSo who wins and loses the bets?
As for me, the opposite result will happen. The only reason I played at Revel as opposed to Borgata or Caesars properties was the lack of smoking.
At least being smoke-free gave Revel something to offer established Borgata and CET players. What, exactly, will be Revel's appeal now?
Whether or not people start flocking to the Revel so they can smoke and gamble really depends upon how well they publicize the change. And considering that there are a lot of people who have no idea that the original No Comps policy got abandoned, I think the term "flock to the Revel" is rather over-optimistic.

Just goes to show that the biggest mistake a new casino can make, upon opening, is not being generous enough with its players. Being overly generous can always be dialed back after the opening, but once players give a new property free play and get nothing in return, they will never come back.
Quote: sodawaterThis is so fucking stupid. If they actually think allowing smoking will increase revenue "dramatically," they are crazy. Revel isn't making money because players are more loyal to properties that actually give them status and benefits.

If smoking and casino profits were related then the only non-smoking casino (Palace) amongst dozen or so smoking casinos in Biloxi would have shut down (actually after close to two years they are investing more money in their property).
Visited Revel yesterday and it was a ghosttown. Not 20 people playing slots in my walk around and dealers just standing around. Still seemed like too many open tables for the volume. I understand it was a Tuesday, but Caesars was as busy as I have seen it in a while midweek at the tables and the slots.
I hope Revel can turn it around for the employees, but I have little faith they understand what they are up against with players loyalties to other casinos and the poor treatment they provided those who were willing to give them some play.
Resorts is the one to watch with all the Margaritaville stuff coming. I expect their numbers to jump quickly.

They're just bleeding cash, then. They can't depend
on weekends to bail them out, they must barely be
able to pay the electric bill at this point. Oh well, a
dumb idea at a very bad time in the economy.

The Horseshoe in Cincy is letting the players get their way to some degree. Very accommodating, outside of the five guys they are being prosecuted for cheating. Lots of cheating in the weeks following the opening. Many dealers were fresh out of dealers school and very inexperienced. Some were having a hell of a time figuring out the hit/stand rules in Bac.
