When I was young, I had an odd habit of trying to sing songs by replacing each word with the first letter of said Word "A S Beeee A Ssss T H" (Stairway to Heaven). For whatever reason, it has made me very good at these things. I got 14 of 15 and I think I'm close on #15.

#14 is incorrect. According to the governing body that oversees this, there are only 8 now.

I'm down to just #8. And that should be easy, right? A number like 147 is pretty unique, right? Sure. I'll keep plugging away.

Thanks for sharing.

For a change of pace, one of my favorites (many will have already seen this). What comes next?

#8 is esoteric and I'm surprised at nearly anyone knowing that. It might be more common knowledge outside of the United States.

I found the remaining answers that I didn't get and I was close on 1; I had the right idea but the wrong words.

Fun puzzle. Thanks WoE.

I searched #8 after a day, and as a middle aged American, I can tell you I never would have gotten it if I had 100 years. I did have an alternate answer for the last one that is not the official answer. First I thought "20 Numbers in a Dartboard". But the "in" rather than "on" told me something was wrong, and I quickly got the answer.

I agree #8 is going to be tough for the majority of the audience on here. But thats kind of why I put it in there. There were a few more American orientated ones, but they seemed easy to even me.

20 numbers in a dartbaord has been suggested by one of the names above, and I did smile.
I nearly put a darts related one in there, but wasnt sure its played in the states.

If there was a "c" or "f" in there I would guess it was something in cricket or football. I even thought of members of the Swedish, Swiss or Spanish governing body that begins with a "b". Now lets see, 21 weeks must be something. Factored: 3x7x7. Soduku is 9x9.

Nope. Gotta keep trying...

Shakespeare anyone? 2 b or -2 b

Lol, I am loving all the attention on Number 8.
Once the results are revealed, I will be keen to know how many guys from the US even know what "S" is or if you have heard of it.

I have seen two "S" thing-a-ma-bobs in my life and I've even partaken in "S." But, I had no idea that there was a 147MB in a S. For every "S," I've seen 100 other types of the thing-a-ma-bobs.

Although I'm about ready to throw in the towel, I have a feeling that there is a gramatical error in this one.

I.E., I think the word "a" is incorrect.

Thanks. I missed 8, 12, and 20.

8 I would have never got. Is snooker that game that is played on a pool table, but without pockets? My hotel in Uruguay had such a table.

12 I think would be tough for us Yanks, as we almost never say "saint" in referring to Valentine's day.

15 I probably should have got.

8, no its played a table exactly like pool, but nearly twice the size.

I had the same feeling. I should have gotten 20, but I didn't. I also missed 8 and 12, along with more.

Snooker is played on a pool-like table, but it is a larger table and it has smaller balls and smaller pockets. Also, the pockets are rounded so you don't get in "slop." There was a snooker table in the student center where I went to college, but that seems odd, since there were only four full size regular tables. For about 4 years (college), I played between about 1 and 5 hours a day of pool and visited many pool halls. Only one of them ever had a snooker table, and it was the biggest table I've ever seen at almost 14 feet long. Almost every shot had to be taken with a bridge.

I feel somewhat vindicated.

Although the word "a" is correct, grammar would dictate: 300 is a PB in TPB.

Similarly, it should have been 14th of F is SVD - but I figured that out, even though on this part of the planet, the "day" rarely includes the Saint reference.

But the test was fun.

By the way - I NEVER would have gotten the Snooker phrase.

That abbreviation game that kicked off this thread is made up of things called ditloids. You can google that word (itself an acroynm based on one of the puzzle's granddaddys), there are hundreds out there.
