Funniest quotes tonight...Michael Berry (talk host in Houston and a few other areas):

"Bin Laden is dead. Hopefully, Obama will blame it on George W. Bush."

"I just placed a call to W to see if he has that "Mission Accomplished" banner laying around. That would come in handy right about now."

"Holy Crap! CNN is reporting Sheila Jackson Lee is asking to speak at his funeral!"

And thanks to the Pakistan government, he was able to spend the last years of his life in the lap of luxury in a mansion near a Pakistan military academy. Who'd a thunk it. His mansion was only 8 times the size of the average neighborhood house. I wonder if he ate meals at the military academy or they just sent the chef over to cook for him.

Typical of these terrorist scum that live high on the hog while they send out the brainwashed women and children strapped with bombs to kill other innocent women and children.

Just curious...have they released any photos or any other proof that Bin Laden was killed? Or are we just taking our governments word for it. I seem to recall a similar story in the movie Wag the Dog. I don't want to be a naysayer, but a little proof would go a long way for me. Either way, I think this will be our 'victory' and the kids can come home.

When I looked this morning, I couldn't find any photos, other than the one NBC debunked. If you have found any, please post a link. Thanks.

I am not a conspiracist and can accept the reports at face value. However for all the doubters particularly in the rest of the world or among his supporters no body will mean no death. No video proof will be accepted since it can be faked so easily now.

They said on the Today show that they took a DNA sample before they buried the body, and results would be available later today. I'm sure there will be some crackpot, probably as birther, who will say the lab technician was in on the conspiracy to fake the whole thing.

No Photobucket account, but I found this:

Theory is they got rid of his body so it wouldn't become a rallying point for his supporters.

I imagine for special forces people, this is one of those, if I "only had one assignment ever" moments. Like getting the call to go kill Hitler (which of course would have been from a practical standpoint fairly difficult, but still, Laden is no slouch at being the lowest of the low- so getting him is right up there with other major scumbags)

It's funny, but whenever I see that photo I always think of the 1973 movie "Exectutive Action" where the doctored photo plays a key role in the plot. The film also contains grisly parts of the Zapruder film that aren't usually seen on TV.

Get out the champagne! I feel like celebrating!

I see excitement, jubilation, celebration....may I ask why?

Again, I'm not asking as a passive-aggressive way of saying you should be ashamed of yourselves for acting in this manner, or of some belief that 'all life is sacred' and y'all are horrible, or any other similar bullshit. I ask because, well.....

I was 20 when The Towers were hit. I saw it with what were basically the eyes of innocence, an ignorant child. It was my first taste of REAL fear, of REAL concern. Being a lifelong NY'er, there was a personal element to it. I'm sure we could all say the same.
I went to NYC that winter, just a few months after it happened. I saw the giant tarpaulins covering the gashes opened in neighboring buildings. I saw the rubble piled in what used to be busy streets full of cars. I saw shattered sidewalks and cratered tarmac where pieces of The Towers fell. I remember how spooky it was on a street just off of Wall St because although we were in the commercial capitol of the world, you could have played street hockey in the road. It was just deserted. I seen the hole where 2 Towers of unimaginable size used to be, which were now filled with an ant-like, never ending stream of cleanup crews. I saw people crouched at billboards in front of pictures of their missing husband/father/son/daughter/best friend/co-worker/countryman, mourning their loss, mourning their country. I stood there for hours. I stood on the footprint of the greatest tragedy of our time. I stood where thousands of innocent people were killed, where hero's died. I stood where the very people I gaped at on TV as I saw them jump, landed. I stood, and watched, as the very people I saw on TV in the first days of when the cleanup and recovery work started, were now right in front of me, still toiling away in an effort to recover bodies and help return us to order. I listened, and not until later realized how utterly strange it was, to people recounting their own experience. Just pieces here and there...I knew someone in there....I was supposed to be in there....still havent found them.....after it hit, havent heard from him since....it's so, so sad....just hearing all these different converstaions in what is usually the busiest and noisiest place in the world. And feeling....my god....feeling horrific shock at first, then extreme hatred in the following days, utter astonishment as it played out, then going there and being bathed in somber tones, and feeling underneath those tones a sense of resolve, like an underlying current, of togetherness, of hope, of love, of determination. Needless to say, the whole thing was the most emotionally charged events I have ever been witness to.

But, yesterday, I see on TV the Breaking News. Osama is dead. The person behind all of the above paragraph finally apprehended. And I felt nothing. No joy that he was caught, no thrill he was killed, no anger that he wasn't caught alive and made to answer, no regret that he wasn't strung up by the balls and burned alive, no relief that he's gone...literally nothing. Just recounting my experience in NYC nearly brought me to tears, yet yesterdays news incurred no emotional response whatsoever.

I guess, maybe to understand myself, I'm asking to understand you. Maybe. I don't know. Maybe I'm just looking to feel good after feeling so bad, and if coat tailing off of someone else emotions works, then it's better than nothing.

It is a sense of satisfaction, like the Doolittle Raid. In a sense, getting Bin Ladden is similarly of little strategic signifigance. There is still the same radical islam problem and Bin Ladden has had dubious command for years. But WE GOT HIM.

It reinforces the idea that if the USA really decided to go after you all you get for running is tired.

Justice has been served. I think a OBL's videos and taped messages were salt in our gaping wounds; reminders of how lame our ability to carry out our will in this world really was.

That time is over. I'm feeling pretty good about it right now. Thanks to our brave men and women in our military and intelligence services.

Face,

Why? Osama Bin Laden is dead. He was the figurehead for Al Queda. After all of these years, the US forces finally found him. On the Pai Gow deck of wanted terrorists, he is the Joker.

Yes, gas prices are still expensive, and the world's problems still exist. It's not like we woke up in the morning and discovered that all cars all of a sudden ran on electricity, or that the 2nd coming of Christ has finally happened. It is a cause for celebration that finally, after all of these years, the man was disposed of.

But let's give credit where credit is due. Bush's decision to open Guantanemo Bay and to exercise rendition led to the name of the high value courier. With that clue, Obama (who probably now might not be a radical Muslim, believe or not) ordered that a strike using US ground forces, fairly deep inside a country that was for all intents and purposes, probably protecting him. Don't doubt me, Bush would have done the same thing with the intelligence data. I'm just saying that Obama followed through, which in the end, is a great thing for America.

I was a hockey coach for a group of 9-10 year-olds at that time (including my own son). I remember thinking that a lot of their innocence left forever on that day as the Pentagon, less than 20 miles away, burned. A war we didn't ask for came to our shores. I "get" the celebration because the symbol of all of those things that happened on that day has been erased from the living. The innocence the lost can not be brought back but a bit of it was redeemed yesterday.

The bottom line is that everyone isn't going to have the same feelings about all of this...and all of the feelings I have heard expressed addressing the reality of yesterday are okay...

People react all sorts of ways to traumatic events. In that respect, there's likely no one right way to feel. You feel however you feel. Sometimes you react more to one event than another. Sometimes it's too much to analyze and you just have to roll with wherever the emotions take you rather than do something more constructive. Some people definitely got post traumatic stress from their 911 experience. That's my short answer.
There's no secret. Just know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

Face,

Everyone is wired different. I'm excited and happy that the son of a bitch is dead. I think we should kill more terrorists. But I respect the fact that everyone doesn't feel that way. I wouldn't worry about it, there is no need for you to feel a certain emotion just because the media beats you over the head with it.
