There was talk by the Wizard of both a Trivia Quiz and some sort of physical activites. Im loving the Quiz idea, and volunteered as official timekeeper for the race. Nick(sGamingStuff) suggested nametags with Usernames on which I think is a good idea.
My wife also suggested a possible side event, possibly for the day after. It involves the Sahara NASCAR Cafe, the 3B Burrito, and a $100 wager. Everyone puts up $100, whoever eats most of the burrito on 90 minutes, then keeps it down for the following 90, gets the pot. Failure to finish the burrito, costs $20, so there would still be a decent amount of money in the pot if a few of us tried it.
This stemmed from the Wizard offering me odds last year that I could not finish it, a bet I did not take.
For now I think I'll arrive in Vegas the 13th or 14th and stay til the 20th or 21st.
Quote: NareedWhat kind of time frame do we expect? The afternoon, the whole day, perhaps something the next day? I've a pretty open schedule, so I'm game for about anything.
I was thinking the afternoon of the 15th, hence why I set the time for 2pm. I was thinking spending most of the afternoon. Anyone who wanted to carry on into the evening could, and maybe stretch it over 2 days depending how we get on. We could always arrange other things between ourselves after the initial meet.

Okay, that would be fair enough.
And you and I have to get together for the IP buffet, then each write a review. You're not getting off the hook on that one ;)

Dont worry. I am actually looking forward to it. The fear has not started to creep in yet.

I carry tums in my purse at all times. I'd be glad to add a small bottle of pepto.
Quote: rdw4potusI think many of us will be there with ACG/LVA in-hand. Maybe we could do some kind of "tournament" with a small prize to the person who gets the most gaming value out of the books over some shortish timeframe?
Well, I know I will have copy of the ACG, as I am planning a coupon run over the whole vacation. Could be a possibility.
I have been in touch with Main Street Station, who have confirmed what I already guessed from their website. They have no Texas Hold'em poker. No Boyd Gaming property Downtown does. Should we wish to arrange a poker tournament, this would have to be done at a different venue.
I also looked into the possibility of private BJ and Craps Tables, but they do not offer this facility.
Quote: WizardI'll look into this. Poker is not a priority downtown, but I think we could work something out at Binion's or the Golden Nugget.
We should be easily able to get enough for one table. My preference would be Binion's, due to the fact I had a good time with them on 2007, and it is the birthpace of the World Series after all. Ill fire off a few emails too, and let you know the results.
Quote: WizardI think I heard something that if you have a large enough group you can rent the table and dealer by the hour and there is no rake. I also don't rule out getting a large suite at the MSS and using a dining room table for the game.
Does the MSS even have suites? I looked into online booking but could not find anything but standard rooms.
Unlike reserving a table on the main floor, getting a private table in the poker room is surprisingly easy to do.Quote: WizardI think I heard something that if you have a large enough group you can rent the table and dealer by the hour and there is no rake.
You just call a few days ahead of time so that they will be sure to have the extra dealers available. There is a set price and a minimum number of hours. Note that if it's just one table, then the minimum could be as little as one hour. If you schedule it right when the shift changes, they may just have a dealer stay longer, so there is no minimum hours.
They usually allow you to extend the time past whatever you originally requested. As long as you're paying the rental price, which is just slightly more than their expected rake rate at a full table, they'll let it remain private - even if there are only two players. When you've had enough of that, they'll keep it open as a regular raked table, and fill the empty seats from the wait list.
I was there two times: Aug 2006 and Sept 2009. While there is a lot of cool WSOP memorobilia and history there, the ill-will from the Harrah's deal was so thick you could cut it with a knife. All over, there was signs and posters stating "Binion's - The place that made poker famous."Quote: CroupierMy preference would be Binion's, due to the fact I had a good time with them on 2007, and it is the birthpace of the World Series after all.

How many people per table?
In any case, count me in. I love playing poker with friends.
Quote: NareedHow many people per table?
A full table is 10. There were 8 Definates on the Wovcon Attendee thread, and about 12 possibles. If everyone turns up thats 2 tables, but I always expect people not to turn up. If we can get a tournament set up as opposed to a cash game, it shouldnt be a problem.

Confirming that I am in for the poker tourney sub-event. Also volunteering as assistant timekeeper of the physical challenge;-)

Looking forward to it.
I fired off a couple of emails to both the Golden Nugget and Binion's a week ago. I still have not heard anything back. If any of the Vegas locals read this and are in the Downtown Neighbourhood, would you mind popping in and asking a few questions about private poker tourneys?
Thanks in advance if you do.
Quote: NareedI move we bump up the thread at least once a week.
Good Idea. HAs anyone had any luck in visiting or contacting a casino about poker? I still have not had a reply from them.
Quote: CroupierJust a quick update.

Bininon's is right across the street. I am sure they could arrange a poker table for the right price. At the right hour (i.e., early), it should not be too hard to "take over" a BJ or Craps table.

You are probably right. I would just like to have something arranged in advance, for ease of getting everyone together, rather than having a group of us trawling downtown, looking for a poker/craps/bj table.
Quote: AyecarumbaFor the poker, perhaps a couple of tables in a suite or meeting room (or someone's garage). You can avoid the rake. The problem with a tournament is what do the early knockouts do while the others play on?
If its in someones garage, they could be made to deal or fetch drinks as punishment. But that is kinda why I wanted a private table, as somewhere to congregate after the poker, as people were knocked out.
Quote: CroupierIf its in someones garage, they could be made to deal or fetch drinks as punishment.
I suggest then you never play in my garage. The Domina in me tends to come out when punishment is to be parceled out ;)
Seriously, it's a bit intimate to play at someone's palce, garage or not. Something that would be more appropriate for WoVCon 2, perhaps.
Quote:But that is kinda why I wanted a private table, as somewhere to congregate after the poker, as people were knocked out.
Something we could do if all else fails is to chip in and book a suite at the MSS or elsewhere Downtown for one night. We could use it to play and for other things, like a pit stop location, storage area if needed, rest area, etc. Just hide the remote and lock the minibar so no one gets creative with the bill. We'd need cards and chips, which can be had easily Downtown if quality's not an issue.

The Wizard suggested something similar earlier in the thread. Looks like this is the way we are going to be heading. And even if quality of cards and chips is an issue, the Gamblers General Store is a short [car] trip (but a hell of a walk on a hot sunny day) down Main St.
Speakig of cash, is anyone interested in commemorative 100 and 200 peso bills? I can bring a few along and exchange them at the current rate (around $25 for both notes, one each). They're a special run from last year to mark the centennial of the Mexican Revolution and the Bicentennial of Mexican Independence. the 100 peso note is printed on plastic, the 200 one on paper. I can probably find pics online.
Quote: zippyboyAnd Binions has dozens of poker tables sitting idle in the back, waiting for tournament play. Or our game.
It would have been nice if they had replied to my emails. Oh well. No such luck. Im sure we will be able to arrange something. I just like things planned.
Not that this is a timely bump.
Quote: zippyboyI have an acquaintance who deals there, so I'll shoot him an email and see what's up.
Ill thank you in advance for that.
Thanks.

Any news yet?
Quote: zippyboynot yet, I'm afraid. Curious. He hasn't checked his email in all these days? I don't know what's going on. I know he still works there, so maybe I'll just stop by this weekend.
I think its only been about 2 or 3 days. If he is working, it could be between working and sleeping he hasnt checked his email. I know I can go days without looking at it. Thanks for checking if you dont hear back from him though. I do appreciate it. And before I forget to ask will you be dropping in on WoVCon?
RE: The Rhino. Thanks for the offer of the lap dances. However, I'm not really into the Strip clubs. I find them too loud, too expensive, and the girls too aggressive. If there is sufficient interest I'll go along. I have never been to the Rhino.
Quote: zippyboyAbsolutely. And crushing you all in the poker tournament. lol
lol. I take that as a personal challenge! :P
I was worried it was going to be a washout, with only Nareed, rdw4potus and a couple of others showing interest. Good to hear the numbers are rising. It will also be intereting to see if any lurkers show up to the festivities.
Quote: WizardDang, I went downtown yesterday, but forgot to ask about a private poker game.
Dont worry. There are still around 110 days to get things sorted. I just like being prepared.
Quote: Croupierlol. I take that as a personal challenge! :P
Don't we all? I wouldn't be surprised if we also wind up running a pool on who'll win at poker. Why play one game when you can play two?

The more the merrier, no question. But any gathering of five or more, not counting the Wizard, ought to qualify as a success. I mean, we're not that many to begin with, we have different vacation schedules and so on. So all things considered five is good. And plenty enough for poker.
Quote: clarkacalEven Nareed and Nick'sgamingstuff could observe the fashions and pretty footwear on the dancers.
I don't like this comment.
Quote: NicksGamingStuffI don't like this comment.
I didn't either, but I thought it was meant as a joke.
Besides, anyone who knows anything knows a tranny won't look at shoes when there's lingerie available :P

Yep, here's what I found out:
Quote: A Binions Poker DealerTo answer your question, yes I'm sure Binions would be very welcoming to your private poker tourney. I would offer Binions as a venue on the site, however I'm not in a position to do that. What I can do is point you in the right direction so that you can speak to the appropriate people. I would recommend speaking to Paul Campbell about this. He is one of the Poker Room shift supervisors. He can be reached at the poker room (702-366-7397) from 5p-1a everyday except Tuesday and Friday. You can also stop by and speak to him if thats easier. I would recommend not calling between 630p-730p and 930p-1030p as tournaments are starting around this time and he can be quite busy. Hope this helps.
Looking forward to it!
I arrive in Vegas the Week before WoVCon, and hopefully will be able to get the final details sorted then.
Thanks again for your help, and it looks like the inaugural WoVCon Poker Championships will be held at Binions.
Ill start a seperate thread for a poll for buy ins people would be comfortable with.

Hey, look who is here. Welcome back!
So...details, details. What happened after you quit posting your craps wins and losses?
Quote: WizardHey, look who is here. Welcome back!

Thank you for the warm welcome. No details to report really. I have been on a several month lay off. Addressing many family concerns. Separating from my wife. Moving to Vegas and getting situated. Fighting the Vegas economy for work. Testing, testing, testing my theories and strategies. And negotiating with investors.
Currently, I beleive that I am about 3 weeks away from getting started again. This time with the full bankroll.
Quote: zippyboyYep, here's what I found out:
Thanks, Zippy.
I look forward to meeting your boast at the table. Pride goeth before the fall and all that (and sure I'll make some ill-advised boast between now and WovCon, too ) ;)
If there are enough of us that want to play, I think we will be able to organise some sort of private poker game. Ill get more details when I get to Vegas after the 8th June and speak to the CRS at Binions.
The Wiz did mention a trivia quiz, I assume this could be conducted in the 777, but if anyone has any brighter ideas by all means.
I was also thinking if a few of us get on, along with the carpooling someone suggested, we could arrange a group trip to the pinball HOF.
