Lost time capsule might have historic photos.

After removing a large statue from it's base in Virginia, authorities were expecting to find a time capsule that was said to have been laid in the base. What has many historians excited about this capsule is there is a suggestion that it includes a photograph of President Lincoln in his coffin. At this time, there is only one known photograph of him after his death.
The authorities thought they had located the capsule yesterday using a type of radar but crane troubles prevented from from excavating it. Today the crane is working but the capsule still hasn't been located.
Besides the Lincoln photograph, many items from the 1880s are expected, and the plan is to replace the 140 year old capsule with a new one containing stuff from this era, including a covid 19 vaccine.

If this is one of those statues removed “because muh rascis” what makes you think they give a flying fug about a time capsule their goal is to erase that history in the minds of the people who removed it.

Actually, at the time statue was built, there were no known photographs of Lincoln after his death. The plates were ordered to be destroyed by Sec. of War Stanton after he heard a photograph was taken. However, in 1954, a 14 year old future Lincoln historian, found one copy in Stanton’s papers collection. That is the picture you can see today.

The search has been called off and what happened to the box is a mystery. It's hard to believe someone removed it from under the staue.

Most likely it was never placed under the statue.

Most time capsules are done with a lot of fanfare. The BOCES class of my high school did a time capsule to celebrate the Bi-Centennial as we were the class of 1976 and the turnout was amazing. I suppose we will never know about this one.

There are not photos of Lincoln after he died, in his coffin, etc, etc.. Were there to have been one in this time capsule, it would have been a huge historical find. News accounts of the time capule indicate there might have been one included.
