I remember when this first came out.
A Long Island kid went upstate(?) to college and kept getting mistaken for another student. That other student kept hearing the same and eventually they met up, realizing they were identical twins, separated at birth and adopted by two different families. It was a cute story that Newsday featured. I don't think it got much play outside Long Island. However, someone saw the story and realized he looked just like them. It turned out the three of them were identical triplets. The national news picked up the story and their lives were never the same. They actually had a fourth brother who died, and the story of how they were separated was almost as interesting as how they found each other. Working with an adoption agency, a child psychiatrist arranged to have the three infants adopted into specific circumstances. One was given to a rich family, one to a middle class one and one with a family struggling to make ends meet. In each case, the adopting family had an adopted daughter about two years older. The families were secretly tracked as part of a larger study. The study was never released and all records of it were given to Columbia University to be sealed and released in fifty years or so. To date, no one knows how many other children were involved, or sets of twins separated for it.
A movie about them, and how their lives changed will air on CNN later this month. Unfortunately, it wasn't a happy ending for all involved.
The film got outstanding reviews when first aired at festivals.

The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

CNN is premiering it on Jan 27 at 9pm eastern.

Says Hulu and Amazon have it now for a fee..

I'm very interested in seeing it, too. It's being pushed for Oscar consideration as well.

There's a trailer for it on the top of this page.

If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

It was interesting. Certainly an amazing story, however, the documentary didn't hold up to all the hype. I wouldn't call it a must see. A short version would have done just fine.
