Doc, that teleprompter point was a real dagger, wasn't it.....

Sorry, Jerry, I must have missed your point. I've been out of town a few days and have been trying to catch up on the forum the past hour or so. I noticed that the Wizard had a post that seemed to relate to a request I had made a couple of weeks ago, so I tried to acknowledge it. I'm not sure what teleprompter you are referring to.

By the way, while some members of this forum have been quite offensive in their comments toward you -- in some cases, even more offensive than you have been toward them -- I think this post is the first time I have ever directed any comment to you. Have I overlooked or forgotten something I have said to you in the past? I only ask because I didn't understand your post and wondered whether you meant you were aiming a dagger at me during my absence.

In case it is not clear, my interest in the prospective "Ignore" feature is that if one person or a group of people start flaming or making outrageous comments, I would like to be able to just banish (from my screen only) that pile of garbage they post and read only the useful stuff this forum has to offer, without having to wade through filth to find it.

If I weren't the smartest poster here I'd buy that first para.

Welcome back. Get some rest.

I think the host (or hosts) are being more than generous with an ignore feature.

Even the biggest free speech conservative TV or radio advocates wouldn't continue to let a single vainglorious caller dominant their show with insults and general abuse. At least, I bet, not one. Fortunately for them, they can just disconnect people like Jerry if they keep calling.

(Yet, of course, not one of those TV or radio hosts would probably admit they believe in limiting free speech.)

A suggestion for revised forum rules

Quote:

Forum Rules

1. Don't be a pain in the ass. (as determined by the host)

2. The forum rules may change from time to time, without notice. Be sure to check this page for the latest version. Anyone using the site agrees to the rules listed here.

3. This forum is only open to individuals of age 21 or older.

4. We have a zero-tolerance policy for spam. Anyone found or perceived to be spamming may be permanently banned from the forum.

5. This forum is designed to be self-moderating. If you find a post which is spammy, harassing, or illegal in nature, you are encouraged to flag that post as inappropriate. When enough members have flagged a post as inappropriate, it will be automatically removed.

6. Anyone abusing the "flag as inappropriate" feature will have their flagging rights revoked.

There's no secret. Just know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

I was reminded recently that this forum had some of the most intelligent, math-minded folks around, yet many of these purported geniuses for some reason continue to waste time on "forum banning" threads....when they instead could at least try and answer some of the questions I've posed about people being banned FROM CASINO GAMBLING. Please share some of that superior intellect in a productive way, and stop rxWHINING!

No, it doesn't.

No private citizen, or group of citizens, or even large corporations, can pass a law limmiting speech and freedom of the press, nor to establish a religion or any of the other things contained in the First Ammendment.

Huh? Nareed, I didn't know you were a former justice of the U.S. Supreme Court hiding out in Mexico... :) Private citizens can and have limited free speech on their properties. In our own backyard, look at the Venetian trying to ban the porn slappers from their sidewalk. As a matter of fact most states are divided on whether the First Amendment extends to the private sector (cf. Pruneyard Shopping Center v. Robins et. al.) Sorry to sidetrack the discussion but it's probably better than talking about Jerry ad nauseum...

Well, the First Ammendment bars Congress from making any laws restricting, among other things, freedom of speech. That means no private citizen or corporation can violate it.

Second, a property owner can, and does, decide what speech he will permit on his property. TV and radio stations, for example, make such decisions all the time.

So certainly the Venetian can ban porn slappers from its property. If the sidewalk is its property, it can ban them there, too.

Why don't you two get a room. What you need is Sheriff Joe to do a sweep for argumentative individuals who likely cannot remain married or have lifelong friends because of it.

Cute, Jerry. Once again you've shown us that whatever progress you make on this board as to productive comments, you can't help taking two steps backwards.

I completely disagree with you. Calling him "it" strengthens him because he is dehumanized and therefore permitted to behave as a misanthrope.

The best way to "call" a troll is by name ... in this case Ray Cagno. Once his identity is made public, you better believe that puts pressure on him.

Which of Jerry's posts did you lift that from?

Well, good grief, the poll went 3:2 AGAINST last time--was Jerry not in full bloom then, or something? His posts on this thread seem very Jerry.
