Are there ever any Girls Only meet ups? :)

We have a very few here, like most forums for some reason it skews 80%+ male, though.

I'm a woman. There is MustangSally I would call a regular, and ACmama, MrsHeartRN, both sort of new regulars who tend to stick to the Atlantic City topics. And several new and occasional women, such as HotBlonde, lildevilLucy, MissEye, and several whose exact names I'm blanking on, such as something-Cupcake and a pleasant high-roller lady from around New Orleans, I think it was. A couple of women were very active in the past, but are not now.
We've really only had, well, me, consistently in the last couple years, until the last 6 months or so, as MS returned after a long absence, and the AC ladies who've recently arrived; HB has been active again the last couple weeks after a year or more absence. Several of the male regulars have great wives who show up to events, but don't to my knowledge read the board. So there hasn't been a large enough group of females to even consider a meet-up. However, I've been made welcome at all the WoV events; I'm sure you would be as well.
It's also very possible that some women members haven't identified themselves as women, and there are a lot of people that read the board but don't post, so chances are some of them are women as well. I would have to estimate the male demographic higher than above, more like 95%, maybe more than that.

I'm so glad you joined the forum, Chereya. You started with a trip report which is something that I enjoy. Long, short , good or bad, I read them all. Thanks for yours.
Off the top of my head I can only think of 6 or 7 females on this board but not everyone shares their gender with the forum. I didn't realize you were female until your fourth or fifth post. We count among our female members a blonde who calls herself hot, a math wiz and one of our administrators.
A couple of observations from a longtime member. Some females have been given more leeway here than their male counterparts and some of the males here do not know how to act around females. Wiley females have been known to exploit both of those facts.
I'll be looking forward to your next trip report!
How come there aren't any "Boys Only" meet ups? I declare discrimination!!
Quote: RSIt is estimated that 90% of "females" online are actually male. Perhaps this forum is different (very well could be), but every other forum (except one) I've been part of, this 90% rule holds true.
I being polite above when I said 80%. If your number holds true, and I think it may be at least a little close, then about 97% of forums are male. And thinking back since 1992 that seems right. Very rarely do you meet women who confess to forums or chat. OTOH, they do lurk. You would think this would have changed in 25 years.

Ah ha, ok, so rather few and far between then. Thank you for identifying some of the other female members' names. :) I'd love to make some new female friends that enjoy frequenting Vegas. I'd feel better about going on a solo trip if I had a wing-person. Have not gone on any yet. I usually drag DH but 2 nights is soo short and that's his current limit. :/

Thank you! I'm working on an in depth review for my piddly travel blog. I will post back in my Bellagio thread when it's done. In the middle of working on the expense spreadsheet and pie chart atm. I like to have a "value" experience - I like luxury but I like it as cheap as I can get it, haha!
Not having been reading around the different sub topics yet, not sure what type of "leeway" you mean with regard to pushing boundaries on this board. I guess if I run across it, I'll know it when I see it? I come from a MMORPG background so I'm used to not only the % male/female skew, but also the odd kind of social atmosphere. As far as I can tell, this board is not so bad in that regard - not a lot of "asshattery". ;) Most everyone seems respectful, there's a lot of inside jokes and some amount of ribbing.

You are probably not frequenting the types of forums where women are congregating to discuss topics of importance to them - cooking, children, relationships, life changing events (pregnancy, birth, death, divorce)... I'm in a handful of neighborhood centric Facebook groups that skew more female than male.

Could be, of the above cooking is all I would be interested in. I suppose that in said groups they from time to time wonder where all the men are?
Of the gaming forums I have participated on....lots of times there'd be guys pretending to be girls. I don't know why, exactly. But likely for the fame or popularity. [Note: Lots of gaming forums are f***** up and lots of weird stuff goes on there. On one forum, for a short period, there was a MLP craze where many changed their signatures and avatar pictures to be (quite awesome) my-little-pony, see spoiler for example.]

It is a version of trolling. In the early www days (1996-8) I talked to some guy who said for fun to go on a mainstream forum and set the profile to 16-18/F. Said when you did guys flocked to you like game to a baited field. I have heard of some women posting as males to avoid this fate.
Some might do it as an experiment to see if women are for real when they say the kind of responses they get from guys. I've heard it from women about dating sites for example. Always wondered, never had the time and guts to post a fake profile and see.

Done the latter once for interest sake on Craigslist about 8 years ago, with my GF of the time. Yep, it's that bad and mindless. I can't imagine it had any success in finding a mate. From other more male dominated sites, I can see easily why many female members don't reveal that fact... the level of bothersome and rude comments made that have nothing to do with the forum subjects is high.

Shopping! I forgot about that one. I just posted today to share a big Old Navy sale. $6 jeans! Stocking up for back-to-school in a few months. Kids are freaking expensive. I dropped $250. Gambling would be much more fun.

That's the Brony phenomenon! I am not sure if it was a hipster-type counter-subculture (I will like something meant for little girls to go against the grain) or just meant to be ironic.

If you were signed on as a female, either by name or profile, you got constant hit-ons, usually featuring a penis pop-up. It was...I don't know what it was. Mostly funny. I'm glad we don't bother with avatars or pic-chat here. However, it would be fun if we had a chat room where we could schedule games and quizzers from time to time. I'd love to run a random game room with teams competing again. Maybe in the revamp.
Was anybody else here active on FireTalk? I think most of you are too young, but it was a decade ahead of its time, at least. Right at the start of ICQ's and AOL chat.
My attempts to chat here haven't gone particularly well.
As one of the fellas said........"Mathboys can be a tough crowd. "
I run a Las Vegas board and we talk about Vegas about 90% of the time
At least half my members are female.
And continuing recently:Quote: GENDER AND INTERNET USAGE (2003)As presented in Figure 1, the gender bias in Internet adoption in the U.S. disappeared in 2000, and also started showing a reverse trend after that – with more women than men online.
http://www.statista.com/markets/424/topic/537/demographics-use/Quote: Statista, The Statistics PortalStatistics and Market Data on Online Demographics & Use
As of 2012, the gender distribution of the worldwide online population was a 47 to 53 percent split between female and male internet users with slight differences between global regions.
http://www.statista.com/statistics/272993/gender-distibution-of-the-global-internet-population/Quote: Statista, The Statistics PortalDistribution of the global internet population in 2012, by region and gender
This statistic shows the gender distribution of the global internet population as of October 2012. That year, 47 percent of the global web population were female and 53 percent were male. In North America, 52 percent of internet users were female.
Additionally, the large & widely cited study titled the Internet and American Life Project conducted & published by the Pew Research Center (http://www.pewresearch.org/) in conjunction with the Princeton University Center for Survey Research found that among internet users (a majority of which are now female on this continent) women are more active than men on various forms of internet social media including discussion/chat boards like this. So nope: "Women online don't like to chit-chat about stuff" is a dog that doesn't hunt.
Gambling? Oh yeah, this site is supposedly a little bit about gambling sometimes? So are women. More than men. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitor Authority's (http://www.lvcva.com/) published market research reports document that the (slight) majority of visitation to Las Vegas is from women, and the American Gaming Association and UNLV Center for Gaming Research among others (as well as simple casual observation of just about any casino for cryin' out loud) find that in the aggregate nationally in the US the local & regional casinos outside of Nevada tend to get an even larger proportion of their patronage from women than the female majority in LV.

Seems it can't be about "the internet." Or women online generally not wanting to chat about stuff. It surely can't be about lack of interest in gambling. I think it is particular to this and some similar sites, and I do not believe it is due to the technology, format, and surely not the (supposed) subject that this site is sporadically kind of about. And I find that what it is has been from time to time a common topic of casual chit-chat discussion on a number of occasions among folks who are familiar with this forum, but do not find it appealing to get actively mixed up with some peculiar aspects that they immediately see, and do not think it wise to sign on and participate in it. Looks pretty obvious to me and a lot of others who aren't all wrapped up with it. There are some characteristics about some of the most visibly active folks in a small but very regular core group that are distinctively different in their thought patterns, emotional architecture, and how they relate to the world around them in general and casinos in particular. Distinctively different. And I'll just stop right there with that, since I think going into that in any further detail is at least a triple digit dog to lead to anything good at all.

I should have mentioned you, B4e. Sorry about that; hadn't seen you in a while! :)
Edit: Chereya, if you click on Blonde4ever's name (to the left of where she posted), you will see her website in her profile. I might go check it out, myself, as I've heard good things about it; I like your idea of lining up Vegas-bound ladies as gambling buddies.
It just seems that females, any age might provide some built in cover and a little extra leeway. ??

Thank you for the tip! I think I will check it out!
In terms of online communities, women will go where they feel comfortable and there are like-minded people to have rewarding and "feel-good" communication and interactions with. I'll be totally honest, the WoV forum may not be quite the place for me. I'm not a math/statistics aficionado. I'm not much of a gambler but I would like to learn more - enough to have more fun and not feel completely overwhelmed at the prospect of sitting down at a table (or standing at a craps table).
I'm slowly making my way through some other threads around here and a lot of it (the math talk) goes over my head. Semantics seems to be a big point of contention at times. I'm a live and let live kind of person and drama/bickering doesn't particularly interest me.
I am appreciative of falling into this forum though if it inadvertently leads me to a community with a better fit. I'll check out Blonde4ever's message boards and see how it feels. :)
I think there's only 1 or 2 females here that actively seriously AP.Quote: kewljI would like to take this a step further and ask if there are any females, who are seriously AP, meaning professionally, or semi-professionally for serious money. The conventional stereotype for card counters is young 20's and 30's white male (although my personal experience has been older males than that).
It just seems that females, any age might provide some built in cover and a little extra leeway. ??
I would bet All of them have other sources of income.
I would guess that only 15% of all AP's are female. I would say that most of them only became AP's after a male in their life such as a BF, husband, relative or close friend introduced it to them.

"I wanted to became the president but then I figure he works to much so I'm fine been a insurance broker" ;) jaja
Be a AP is no fun is too much stress play as a hobby with a advantage is more fun :) and still get the same benefits with less stress.

Quote: lildevilLucyHi welcome :) what do you like to gamble ? (If you already say it I'm sorry I'm lazy to read so much)
Hi Lucy! :)
I guess I feel most comfortable at slots but I try to keep a very small loss budget. Roulette is nice and easy. I have a few memories of playing with my grandfather before he passed away. His favorite was always the 26/29 line. So every so often I'll play that bet in his memory. I'm a novice craps player. That was another one of my grandfather's favored games. That was so long ago though, I don't remember much of what he taught me (or if the advice was any good or not). I don't think he knew about the pass line odds bets for instance. He just liked to play the pass line and then place the 6 and 8 and press those. I am still trying to learn all of the ins and outs of craps.
I will play some BJ if I'm with my cousin as that is more her thing. I just tried baccarat for the first time last week as I heard that was an easy game to get into. I did ok making minimum bets. I was told by my seat neighbor that I was getting a lot of side eye from the Canadian Chinese that were at my table, LOL! I didn't even notice. I do my own thing and anyone else can do whatever they're doing. Makes no difference to me. ;)
I've dabbled in 3 card poker a time or two but it just doesn't seem to be as exciting to me.
I do want to learn more about gambling in general to enhance my enjoyment of it and gain confidence. :)

I love forums.
Love to talk about Vegas and gambling and good deals.
I would post more but the heavy emphasis on analysing things is intimidating.
But I still visit here...lurking.....
