I killed a random bottle of coke that I had on Friday morning for breakfast. I was like a tease walking to the hotel with a coke but no way to open it.
Quote: AxelWolfWho buys table salt? It's free at all the fast food joints.
Yeah, but when you don't eat fast food but 2 or 3 times a year, they kind of look at you funny when you ask for one hamburger and two hundred packets of salt!! :D
Quote: AxelWolfWho buys table salt? It's free at all the fast food joints.
toilet paper is free too. so are paper towels and plastic silverware and napkins. although there are some joints that tightly control napkins.
you're plus EV on all that stuff.
you can fast for 24 hours and then go plus EV on a Vegas buffet by eating twice as much as you normally would.
they won't let you sleep anywhere other than in a hotel room in most casinos either. but you can go plus EV by wearing very dark glasses so they can't see your eyes and sleep sitting down so you don't have to pay for a room. actually with earphones and some boss binaural tones that can be pretty comfortable.
Great on a baked potato.

Quote: GWAEQuestion for coffee drinkers. What type of home brewed do you like best. I just started drinking a cup every morning. I have been drinking Folgers classic. Has anyone had any home brewed ones they prefer?
Depends on whether or not it is prepackaged, if so, Gevalia. If I can include any type of coffee, probably just the fresh beans that you can use the grinder at the store to chop up.
I'm really in no shape in the mornings to do any mixing and measuring.

My wife has a pretty cool coffee maker that has a hopper for the beans. When you start it it just grinds enough beans for that pot and drops the grinds right into the filter. Completely autonomous other than hitting the start button.

What is it called, please?
Quote: GWAEThis question came from a poker game today. I had coffee from the waitress and thought it was pretty good. Another player went and got starbucks. Thst prompted a convo about coffee and he said the casino uses Folgers premium but thought starbucks was worth the $4. While I would never pay $4 a day for coffee I am wondering if there really is a difference between folgers, folgers premium, maxwell house, and the like. Then I see mcd has home coffee and starbucks, Seattle best, plus all the ones you can buy as beans and grind them yourself. Of course I could experiment but it took my 6 or 7 weeks to go through the small can I had when only drinking 1 cup a day.
I highly recommend you get Colombian Roast no matter whose brand you buy. Next would be French Roast. The aroma of Colombian really can't be beat.
That said, I'm very fond of Eight o clock brand, followed by chock full of nuts for inexpensive coffees. I enjoy grinding my own beans when I am at home.
Starbucks is a waste of money IMO. It's not significantly better than home brew, and I don't like their signature beans at all.
If you want to spend money on great coffee, go to my friends' site mokulelefarms.com . They grow and hand pick 100% kona on the Big Island and ship it Priority Mail. Fantastic, cheaper than Starbucks by the cup, custom roasted to your liking. But before you buy from them, you should figure out what roast you prefer. She was an airline pilot, he was a PhD in pharma, they retired there and do coffee, honey, macadamia nuts, and chocolate, all produced on their hillside farm. Sorry for the commercial, but since people are talking brands, I thought I'd put in a good word.

If you're going to grind your own, no matter what brand you buy, you want a burr grinder rather than a thing with blades. You'll pay more, but it will do a much better job and last a lot longer. Burr grinders also adjust the granule size more precisely, and to a uniform size.
The only bad thing about combo jobs is, it's usually the heating element that wears out first on a drip coffeemaker. So you've lost all that counterspace and spent the extra money on the combo job for something that might last a year in daily use. YMMV.
If it helps in directing me, I use slightly less tHan recommended so apparently I like it weaker. I also can't stand it black and since I am on a diet I use sweet n low but only 1 pack for a mug.
I'm convinced that artificial sweeteners used long term are poison that causes neurological damage anyway, so I guess I'd rather see you use a teaspoon of real sugar at 16 calories. But I'm not your mother, either. Lol.

Out of the 7 Starbucks within driving distance,, only one has this Clover.

Even fresh beans in it, and its really smooth taste aren't my favorite though. It actually tastes tooooo smooth to me. I've yet to try all their brands though.
because it has the best taste and you
it never clumps and you can use more
of it and get less salt taste. I've have
off brand salt that was awful.
I did a year long paper towel study
and found Brawny Pick a Size
towels in the 8 pack at Walmart
were the best towel for the money.
They are right up there in quality
with Bounty and are much cheaper
at $1.06 a roll for the jumbo size.
Viva always wins at Consumer Reports
but their rolls are small, not a good
bargain.
Toilet paper, Charmin, the expensive
Charmin, makes you feel guilty for
using something so soft and luxurious
for, well, what you're using it for. I

It's always the heating element that goes with coffee makers. So irritating. Even if you pay more it'll last longer, but the yearly cost won't change. That's what blows my mind.Quote: beachbumbabsIf you're going to grind your own, no matter what brand you buy, you want a burr grinder rather than a thing with blades. Last year I started making coffee by hand without a coffeemaker. It's way better. IMO it makes a bigger impact than changing the brand. Most people don't routinely clean their coffeemakers and even if they do they don't get all the residue out which leaves a bitter taste. I pour hot water, close to but not boiling, over a strainer which has a coffee filter over it and directly into a cup. It's a lot more work and demands your attention but if you have the time and you love coffee it's worth it. It comes out very strong and very fresh.
Regarding toilet paper:
*The quality I like in toilet paper is strength. I hate it when the stuff tears.
*Men and women do not like the same kind of toilet paper - I think you can guess my objection to what my wife buys, she goes for the softness.
The absolutely worst thing is to buy a coffee maker and not notice that the switch/light are on the wrong side of the device. Terrible. I know its a tad less than twenty dollars but when your name is Fleastiff, ... .
I've run out of those pre-measured portions already inside of some filter paper. Now I am back to fumbling around for filters and opening that large tin of coffee whle trying to shake the coffee out of the large can and into the small filter paper thing and not spill any.
Here in the boondocks of Florida its important to inspect the innards of electrical devices to ascetain if roaches or lizards have taken up residence and that is so hard to do when not fully awake. I keep saying I'm going to install a small mirror to help me look inside the coffee maker's innards but I never get around to actually doing it.
Well, feral cats fed, klaxon sounding ... time for me to wake up.

Are you a member of online library by Wiley? They are expensive but you might have some institutional affiliation and could download all their chapters in PDF format in one ZipTar file.
get 13 credit cards
1 card is your base card the other 12 are for the Round Robin
fill the base card with your merchandise purchases. when the bill is due do a BALANCE TRANSFER to card #2
unless things have changed credit card companies are happy to do a free balance transfer and depending where you hit the cycle you should get at least another 30 days before interest begins to apply
for the next month fill up your base card with your normal merchandise purchases.
transfer the balance on the base card when due to card #3
when the bill is due on card #2 transfer the balance to card #4
keep transferring the balance due to different cards going round and round
Pay down the principle when you want to and it is convenient for you, not when they demand it or start charging you interest
Eventually some of the cards may say no more balance tranfers
But by then you should have been able to get at least one year free of interest
Nothing illegal or unethical about it.

Must have been a while since you have done this because cards charge 3-5% for a balance transfer now. Sometimes you can get a promo with free tranfers but that is limited.

you are right but through nerdwallet.com i did find one card with zero transfer fee for 60 days and 0% interest for 15 months when opening an account if nerdwallet's claim is accurate. so the scheme won't work but it caused me to do some googling and I found this card.

If you are spending so much money that you have maxed out balances on multiple credit cards, you should probably spend less time coming up with clever ways to avoid paying interest and more time seriously re-evaluating your life choices and financial knowledge.
But I get what you're saying in theory.
A penny saved is a penny earned. It's easier to save money than to make it, and always has been. Free interest however comes at a cost, for someone to gain, others will suffer to keep those debt houses afloat. I think you owe lilrooster an apology for trying to be so condescending towards him.Quote: TigerWuIf you are spending so much money that you have maxed out balances on multiple credit cards, you should probably spend less time coming up with clever ways to avoid paying interest and more time seriously re-evaluating your life choices and financial knowledge.

I never indicated that I was recommending this because a person was maxed out, or because I was maxed out. I was offering it as a way to avoid paying interest. The money not spent on interest could be used on other things. Anyway, because of the balance transfer fee that I didn't know about the scheme won't work. After being informed of this if you note earlier posts I googled and found a credit card offering no balance transfer fee for 60 days and on interest for 15 months when opening an account. So because of this card, at least for 15 months, the scheme would not even be necessary. Actually, there are quite a few cards shown on nerdwallet.com that offer promotional 0% interest when you open an account for a certain amount of time, between 6 months and 15 months.

I once paid $12k balance on a credit card down without a penny of interest. I read one of those tip articles and the author said if you call your CC company and tell them you can't keep up with the payments they may drop all your interest fees and work out an agreement to pay off the balance. It worked. They sent me a warning letter every month that if I missed a payment the deal was off. But I never did miss one. I didn't have to prove I was broke or unemployed which was good, because I was neither.
That is all, have a nice day.
