If you put 100 metric tons on one side of balance scale and a 100 metric tons minus 100 grams on the other side at the same time in a windless room, will it tip imperceptibly slow for quite awhile?

I saw a bald eagle today flying by the side of the turnpike, it was really amazing and so cool to see on the fourth. I had thought I had seen one flying past my house, but it was half a mile away, too far to be sure it wasn't something else. They should always be greatly protected even if no longer endangered.

With that small a variance, I think it might come down to the accuracy of the scale and how well it has been oiled/maintained/etc.

Assuming a theoretically "perfect" scale, though, I would bet it would tip very slowly as you say.

I am skeptical that anyone could build a balance with a beam that could structurally support 200+ metric tons and a pivot such that a 100 gram force difference could overcome static friction. (Of course, I haven't looked into how balance scales are designed.)

I had seen the white tail on the edge of the turnpike, but originally had thought it was a goose. Then when I got closer and saw his wings spread, was confused, knew it was some kind of prey bird. We did drive right past it ten feet away and it was clearly a bald eagle.

It was years ago I couldn't be sure because I was so far away. The body looked dark and head white, but it was as tiny in the sky as could be. That was when I wasn't sure because it was so far, was bug sized far away in the sky.

Red tail hawks are supposedly sometimes confused with bald eagles. Size and colors are different but at a distance it could be mistaken for the wrong bird. (mr google says so anyway)

In principle, any weight imbalance should make a balance scale go down immediately. But you imply a balance scale that is built to hold over 100 metric ton on each side -that is going to be an enormous balance scale with lots of steel structure. That kind of scale is almost certainly not going to be sensitive to a weight imbalance of +/- 100 grams, indeed unless it was made by NASA or the NIH for very high precision it is almost certain that the structural steel of the balance weight itself creates an imbalance greater than one gram.

So, I think nothing would happen, the balance weight will not be tuned to a sensitivity to imbalances as small as 100 gram.

Everyone thinks terrorists have to be massive to win, they don't. These uneducated brainwashed teenage suicide bombers are effective, that is all that counts. Its like the Jewish Lobby... they are effective in American elections and don't have to have massive numbers, just enough to tip the scales.
And its not really religion. Most of the yacht hijacking dhows were Islamic but some of them were Jewish financed. The NSA traced the hijacking coordination and ransom negotiations to Jews not Arabs.

Obviously the Jewish/Isreal lobby is powerful. I don't find that anti-semetic in the least. It's just a fact. Remember when Hillary and Trump took turns groveling before that conference, ALPAC or something like that? Also, one or two people here might have heard of Sheldon Adelson.

Anyway, when there are two gas stations across from one another, and one has gas for 2.65 and the other has it for, not 2.62, but for 2.45, why on earth to people go to the expensive one?

Arco does not accept credit cards and charges a fee for debit cards. That's what makes them great. You don't have to subsidize someones credit card points. I wish more stores offered cash discounts at true value instead of people paying cash having to subsidize all these credit card users.

I stop at whatever gas station is in my direction of travel. I rarely look at who has the cheapest price when buying gas. My GF will go way out of her way to find a cheap gas station(Oakey and Decatur), that's really annoying to me, it's caused a few arguments.

There's one close to me now that has UX(.5 and 10.) I didn't have time to sit and play them all off last time but I'm looking forward to getting gas there soon. I can probably get a free drink out of them too.

What really annoys her is I don't stop to get gas until I'm running on fumes. I have run out a few blocks away from the gas station before. So now she's paranoid it's going to happen again at any time( ten years later)

At $0.20 a gallon, 12 gallon tank (or at least that's how much it usually takes when I go to the gas station, since I'm not like Axel waiting until it's out of gas to fill up), filling up twice a week (I actually fill up less frequently than that, probably more like once a week?), that's a net saving of $250 per year. I probably lose more on lost/expired/stolen TITO vouchers or chips at a casino than that.

I'll get gas when and where it's convenient.

I don't remember how much it's supposed to "cost" to drive one mile, when taking into account gas, wear and tear, etc., but I think it's around $0.50/mile. So, if you go 5 miles out of your way (2.5 there, 2.5 back), you're costing yourself $2.50 in gas/wear+tear/etc. just so you can save $2.40 on gas. Not that people probably go that far out of their way to get gas, but for those that do, it might be costing you more than you're actually saving.

As with many, I treat these matters with a very broad brush. If they wear flowing robes and weird stuff on their heads, I dub them Arabs (sometimes Camel Jockeys, even if there happen to be no camels in their country at all). To me Scandinavian means Nordic heritage and Nordic appearance despite recent immigration and citizenship programs making very dark skin and mosques common.

One need only look at how they eat their oatmeal, called porridge there. In Finland its generaly plain, if its consumed with sugar and fruit... why that is downright Swedish. They use finer brushes in Scandinavia.

The company I work for has about 120 gas stations and they are almost always 10-20 cents more than the ones around it. Believe it or not, there is brand loyalty to both the convenience store brands and to the brand of gas they sell. I don't know the actual numbers but I would guess we sell about 650,000 gallons a day yet the real profits come from beer, cigarettes, and soda,

Some gas stations never undercut, will only match competition's prices. So that basically means one company sets the price, almost collusion but not collusion, which is illegal, because it is unspoken and not formally agreed upon. When I found out of this policy, I realized the only way the people would drive the market, was no longer by voting with their own wallets like pebbles in a lake, but by dividing and conquering together. The masses are too large and desperate, willing to betray the group for it to actually work.

I have a $2 dry cleaner right by my house. Almost all items are $2 so a suit would cost $4 ($2 coat and $2 pants). It is not unusual for my wife and I to take in 15 items and the bill is only $30. One of the few places I still find good value.

Speaking of gas prices, why do they always add that 9/10th of a penny at the end? It's completely useless. Nobody pays attention to it.

You answered your own question. Nobody pays attention to the 9/10 of a penny but I'm sure it adds up to millions pretty quickly for the gas stations and oil businesses.

Beware dem cheapie dry cleaners, they don't change chemicals often enough. Take a white jacket to them and it will come back gray. I know an actor who did that and had to pay double to a real dry cleaner to try to get it repaired. Ofcourse his livlihood depended on how he looked at auditions.

and that 9/10ths is federal law which is a wonderul 'trust fund' deal that means roads keep getting built so more gasoline can be sold.

Wouldn't it add up to MORE millions if they just rounded up that 1/10th of a cent?? When I pay $1.89 9/10th for gas, that is functionally the same as $1.90 to my wallet. Just put $1.90 on the sign and be done with it!!

When I was posting about gas prices a while back, I struggled with the best way to represent the nine mills, but it slowly occurred to me we forget it's just normally done as $1.899 in the above case. I think years of having the gas stations try to hide the 0.009 part got to me, and you and others too.

There have been some fairly "real" looking female "dolls" available, but they are very "passive."

This technology takes a sex doll to a new "active" level.

Hello, life-like kegels.

Ewww. No, we haven't, and no, we don't.

I didn't mean all women, this is generally confined to the ultra militant feminist segment wherein some even take pride in the fact that they do not muzzle the Doberman first.

And no, I do not recall where I read about this but it was over twenty years ago.
