You've no excuses now, no rational motive to complain. But if you choose to complain, I assure you I'll retaliate in as full a measure as is compatible with civilzied society.
That is all.

Not at all. Nareed is under the impression that the world, nay, the Universe, revolves around her ;P
Quote: BleedingChipsSlowlyAh, but Nareed, your logic is flawed. If your post here would be on-topic elsewhere, then wouldn't it be off-topic here by the definition? Would that not be a rational motive to complain?
Would an off-topic post posted in the off-topic post section be off-topic here?
I maintain that given an off-topic section and the ability to block said section removes any rational basis for a complain about being bothered by off-topic posts posted in the off-topic posts section :)
Quote: NareedWould an off-topic post posted in the off-topic post section be off-topic here?
Could be. Sections have a topic definition to define the subject domain. The topic definition for this section defines the subject domain as topics not not defined for any other section. Given the wide scope of the domain including every other topic you will have to tread carefully to be on-topic here by the letter of the definition.

You have waived a red flag, not in front of *A* bull, but a whole heard. I am thinking *ANY* thread you post will generate a complaint. If you are looking for "rational" you might have selected the wrong forum for posting, nay the wrong universe to watch rotate around you.

Yes, well, that's the Universe's problem. My problem is what to do about it, a much simpler task than spreading reason to all infinity.

Oh, I have been watching the new(ish) Looney Tunes show lately. I can't look at Buggs Bunny without being rmeinded of the Buggs Bunny Principle (ie "you realize THIS. Means. War).

Well of course. We can't have Bob being the only one who posts nonsense just to hear themselves type.

I don't know why you felt the need to start a thread to make this announcement/veiled threat. You're free to post here like everyone else. If you cross any lines the mods will handle it. Post away.
Note: This poster pretends to have me blocked so I don't expect a response.

I'm glad you got the reference and intent. I considered editing my post to add some type of humor tag. I don't watch the new cartoons. Not enough violence. BTW, Groucho Marx's character Rufus T. Firefly used the line in Duck Soup before Buggs' many uses of the phrase.) Crap! I've gone off topic... /(*o*)\

I'd argue that cartoons are way more violent today and that's not even taking anime into account just stuff like american dad and family guy.

I'm going to split the baby on this one. More graphic, yes; more violent, not a chance. One roadrunner cartoon was more violent than any Rambo movie; it's just that the aftereffects were comic and unrealistic.

What would be a good way to compare the two? There's no dialogue in roadrunner.

I agree with your argument. What I don't see today is good use of violence as comedic element without the graphic detail. For instance, Wiley Coyote's doomed look into the camera before plummeting to the canyon floor with the impact shown as a small puff of dirt from far above I find funny. A closeup of Wiley splattering on impact I would not find funny. Likewise, I still find a good old Three Stooges eye-poke hilarious almost every New Year's Eve, but I really don't care to see explicit physical damage from graphic violence. Unfortunately for me, the kiddie hour cartoons no longer present comic relief with a violent element. They won't even show reruns of the old shows.

I'm glad I answered the right way. I nearly didn't.

I don't watch American Dad or Family Guy, except on rare occassions.
But the Looney Tunes show now, which has Bugs, Daffy, Porky and many of the rest living in today's world is way less violent than the old, classic Looney Tunes cartoons. No question. I think it's even less violent than other recent fare like Pinky and the Brain (the all-time bestest, no-argument-about-it, cartoon ever).

I don't know you and I will not pretend too either but you seem like a good match up for "brain".....naarrrrffff :)
Just adding a little humor to what seems like an otherwise possibly explosive thread.....
Off topic? Ignore the thread. Why even comment about it? Let it go.
Also, it is shocking watching the cartoons I grew up with. Violence ain't nothing compared to the misogyny and bold faced racism found in nearly every single one.
/sigh. How I miss them.

I should say I'm flattered. But, really, I think I have loftier aspirations than something as pedestrian as World Domination(TM) ;)
To begin with, anyone who refuses to acknowledge my gender, be it from bigotry, ignorance, cussedness, malice or whatever reason. I'm a woman. End of story. I realize as a transgender woman some questions may arise and there may be some confusion. To his everlasting credit, Doc actually asked rather than make assumptions or try to impose his notions on me. I'm willing to answer honest questions, but not to be told what I am, and much less arguements against my gender. Many others, too many to mention or single out (and I'll leave someone out), were very accepting from the start: Thank you all.
That's the bare minimum of respect any person owes any other. If you don't use my correct gender, then you have nothing of value to add to my life, you have nothing of interest to say, and as far as I'm concerned you may as well not even exist. Ergo you'll find yourself blocked. If this seems too harsh, it is less harsh than what you're trying to do to me.
I should add I have no sense of humor when it comes to gender. If someone jokes about some sort of dual gender on my part, that's horribly offensive, too. Block. If someone jokes about me as a woman, that's fine. I've made jokes elsewhere on that vein.
To end this point, if you've any doubts about my gender see my profile, or look at my signature. My real name is on it. If you're wondering, it's Kathy, which is short for Katarina.
Next, I also block people who argue against marriage equality, or same-sex marriage if you prefer the term. Why? Because arguing for limiting the rights of any group is nothing but bigotry and has no place in a civilized society. I want nothing to do with you. Thus far no one has gone on other kinds of broadly discriminatory rants, say against Jews, Muslims, Africans or Asians. If that happens, they'll find themselves blocked, too.
Lastly there are people who just post in a manner that irritates me, or who engage in personal attacks agaisnt me. One person over a short period of time asked I be suspended for posting off topic, then mocked me for trying to promote DT here, then tried to martyr himself over my rather mild reaction about it. I've no use for such nonsense, either. What I found remarkable is he was surprised I'd blocked him. I'm not a human-shaped punching bag who will willingly and meekly submit to gross mistreatment.
It bears mentioning I'm fiercely loyal. I don't know why, exactly, but I've been that way since I can recall. People I like, am close to, love or admire will have my support at all times. When they get mistreated or abused by others, I react like a mother tiger when her kittens are threatened. Unlike a mother tiger, though, I am relentless.
Questions?

I may not always agree with you or your posting style, Nareed, but I agree with everything you said in this post.
I think there are some people on the board (mostly new people) who make honest mistakes with respect to gender, especially considering the male/female distribution on the internet (and specifically on a gambling message board). So it's good that you posted this to clear that up. Clearly there are people who know the situation and insist on using male pronouns anyway, and you have every right to block them.

I can take mistakes, if I don't have to be constantly correcting them. I realize my handle doesn't help, although as I've stated previously it is a female name (long story). But what really hinders me are the kind of mean-spirited people you refer to, who keep using the wrong pronoun and doing so at every opportunity.
I suppose it's possible they don't realize how much they're hurting me by doing so, but given how long they've been at it and how clear I was at the start, it woudl be overly charitable fo me to actually think so. Worse yet, this kind of slur on me is not seen as even meriting a warning by the moderators here. I realize it's not easy to understand, but it's really emotionally painful. It's a blanket rejection of me and of all other transgender women and men. Nothing less than that. It's as bad as any ethnic or religious slur no one these days even dares utter aloud.
That, too, is one reason I deeply appreciate acceptance by people like you. Again, thank you.
I noticed Christians are missing from the list. Probably just an oversight.

Questions?
You said you were taking questions and I have some. My questions are solely to educate myself on a topic that I am grossly ignorant of. If I use the wrong jargon or terminology it is not intentional but due to my ignorance. Since Nareed pretends to have me blocked, others feel free to repeat these questions so Nareed can still say I'm blocked.
You are in your early 50s. When were you first aware of your gender issues? You joined this forum as a man, posted as a man for 13 months and even posted a picture of yourself as a man on this site. Why did you wait? Were you just using us to test the waters on an anonymous forum?
Do you dress as a woman at work? Do you travel on airlines as a woman? Do you dress as a woman when in the company of friends and relatives? If the answer to any of these questions is no can you explain? If the answer is yes, do you demand that they address you as a woman?
Can you cite a post of yours where you asked the forum to refer to you as a female, either directly or indirectly? I certainly never saw one.
You spend a lot of time telling us about everyone you have blocked. Is that your way of trying to punish those who may not share your beliefs? When I think of people blocking each other, I think of little kids sticking their fingers in their ears and saying la la la la la.
It's your turn, Nareed. The ball's in your court. Here is your chance to educate us, to show us that your are sincere and are not just trying to manipulate everyone.

I'll ask nicely: please stop bugging me. You're being disrespectful and confrontational, not to mention deliberately offensive, intrusive and insensitive. I don't have to justify myself to you or to anyone. I don't have to lay bare my struggle or any of my private life.
In your case in particualr I wouldn't give you the time if you paid me for it.
So please just stop it. Go find some other obsession.
If you insist on replying here, I will keep on ignoring you. I posted this here only to keep others from wasting their time trying to get this post to my attention.

I had very similar feelings several months back when you started to bug me via PM - all while you had me blocked so I couldn't respond.
Narred, if you recall, way back when, I was very respectful of you and even supported you.
Then, due to a typo, I referred to you as "he".
Next thing I know, I'm on your black list. You asked for an apology and I asked for what. You then gave me an ultimatum to provide the apology within a specified time limit. Of course, I still had no idea what set you off. It wasn't until after my time limit expired that I discovered the typo.
Once I figured it out, I tried to provide the apology, but you refused to accept it. It was a friggin TYPO!
So, I no longer apologize, and no longer make attempts to fix my typos when I continue to refer to you as "he". After all, many of your posts are so full of typos that it's hard to read. So why should I bother fixing my typos when the only one who will be offended by it is you?
I'm sure you still have me blocked, but you damn well better read and respond to this post.Quote: NareedDon't you think I read every post in my threads even when coming from someone like you?
By the way, to me, "Nareed" is a masculine sounding name. Sorry, but that's the way it is. Also, having a plug for "Kathy's Cooking Corner" on your signature line in no way indicates that you are Kathy. It's just a plug for a blog that you like.
I realize and respect that the action I am declaring in my declaration may be deemed an offense worthy of suspension but I also think that the powers that be need to realize what you've already acknowledged--namely, that you know blocked users cannot answer you back and you send the PMs that are not, we will just say, nice. I would call that an act of bullying.
In other words, either talk to me here or don't talk to me. Either way is fine.
Quote: DJTeddyBearI had very similar feelings several months back when you started to bug me via PM - all while you had me blocked so I couldn't respond.
I sent an unrepliable PM detailing my grievances. But later I unblocked you when you said you could fix things, and you never did. I can't say what you said, but you dind't even attempt any kind of rapport. I can also say you missgendered me twice, on purpose, when you posted about being able to fix things. And I still offered you a chance.
Quote:Then, due to a typo, I referred to you as "he".
No, then due to reasons best known to you, you called me a spammer and suggested I be suspended for posting off topic the first time I posted about Mike Duncan's "The History of Rome" podcasts. Later you mocked me for trying to promote DT here. Then you suspended me for calling you a "nitwit" in accordance to the ludicrously named standard in the rules, adding even a smiley wink. And lastly you lied about having offered an apology.
