BBT Quiz
Took it once, there were 4 questions I answered where I had to think about which of two was more accurate: I came out as Raj. Really?
So I took it again, gave the other answers to those 4 questions, kept the rest the same, and guess who? Sheldon.
Yikes. Not even in the same gender (yes, some of the women are possible results, too). But Sheldon's the funniest to me, so ok; I'll be him.
You?

Quote: DRichYes, it does have women. I am Amy.
Also Amy.

Haven't seen much of the show, but the result should mean I'm capable of achieving "Sheldon" status if I work at it.
Quote: djatcI never seen the show: I got Penny.

It is by far the most popular scripted show on television, and shown in syndication at least 8 times per day. Kaley Cuoco (age 28) (who plays Penny) had the second highest earnings of any actress on TV according to Forbes.
The show burst up the ratings chart with the 28th episode, "The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis" (Dec 15, 2008) where Penny's gift to Sheldon is a used napkin. Jim Parsons submitted the episode for consideration due to his first nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. This episode was the first to push the show past 11 million viewers.
The last episode to air had a series record 20.35 million viewers. Only NCIS had 20.84 million viewers for one episode this year. But TBBT brings in the highest number of young viewers so it is by far the most profitable scripted show on broadcast TV.
It is easy to manipulate if you watch the show.
Quote: FaceBernadette. I don't know what this means
Face now that is funny :)
I think the reason you got her is because she is a ball buster that doesn't take crap from anyone......She is teeny tiny though, that makes it funny :)
Quote: FaceBernadette. I don't know what this means
I also ended up as Bernadette. I, however, do know what this means. It means that I should getting laid nightly........
Also, I really should have said if I were her, not only would I be getting laid nightly, it'd be morning, noon, and night.
Quote: djatcSo do "nerds" tend to watch this show more or "casuals"? Did it become a big show because of the regular girl meets science nerds premise, or was it a legitimate show with theories and equations and scientific trivia?
I can speak only for myself, so put one fan in the nerd column. While I think they get nerd culture pretty well, the depth of understanding of math and science of the writers is not very deep. They throw around a lot of hot buzz words like "string theory" and "Bose–Einstein condensate" but never take discussion of them deep at all. Then again, it is kind of hard to talk about Bose–Einstein condensates and still be funny.

I'll take a swing at part of that: no idea on demographics re: nerds. The creators have, from day one, insisted on all the science being completely accurate, and have a permanent script consultant who oversees the dialogues, the whiteboards, and the science (PhD in either applied or mechanical physics, I think); they also do outside specialist consults for anything he wants more detailed. (There's a couple of good Comicon panels where this stuff comes up on youtube; the PhD was on the panel one year. Several hours over maybe 4 years of filming.) The core of the show was the 2 guys, then the other 2, and Penny was supposed to be an occasional plot line as the hot girl Leonard had no chance to get. But the show evolved and she became part of the core . So I think it was meant to be both what you said above, but primarily the guys, their quirks, their woman failures, and their jokes and friendship among themselves.

I wish it had stuck to that theme. The show jumps the shark each time one of the main characters gets paired off.

Actually, I agree. They've diluted it each girl past Penny, even though it gives them new material. But there was the ER doctor, Raj's sister, Bernadette, a couple others, where I liked it less because of that. And when Penny and Leonard re-connected, it lost something as well. 2 exceptions for me were Leslie Winkel (that whole thing was just plain funny) and Amy is so unusual she adds something most shows she's on. But I watch it for the core guys, and when Howard got married, a lot of the juice went out of that part.
Quote: FaceBernadette. I don't know what this means
Same here.
Quote: WizardLeslie is my favorite female character and I wish they would put her on more often too. Amy is my second favorite. Penny, Pria, and Bernadette are way out of league to relate to in any way.
IMO Amy totally steals the show.
I find it strange that Raj never hooks up with any girl. Even the one relationship I'm aware of that he had was ultra weird and the girl, even though I liked in Raising Hope, she just isn't strong enough of a character to be interesting. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that he doesn't want to be portrayed with someone? He is happily married in real llife (with an Indian girl) and perhaps there is something there, she doesn't want him to be portrayed in that way or they have made that decision together? I'm reaching now I know.
I find the girls give sort of a counter balance to the awkwardness of the boys but for the most part they simply aren't that funny (Amy excluded).
I still find the show very funny but Two and a Half men have made a strong comeback this season even though I still don't like Ashton Kutcher. The new girl is funny and Jon Cryer is simply a delight!!!

By far this was my favorite four minutes of BBT. When Sheldon freaks out about the Nimoy napkin and realizes that he didn't by enough gifts of equivalent value for Penny, he goes for what he has left, a hug, a Saturnalia miracle.
Parsons runs the show. His interactions with the characters (especially Penny) makes the show.

This was for me also, by far, the funniest 4 minutes on TV that year. I missed the first 1/2 year of BBT; my older brother told me I had to start watching. He was right. Great writing.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but according to the wikipedia page, she is no longer with the show.

She helped create "The Talk", and is one of the co-hosts.
I got Amy...meh. At least we both have PhDs in the sciences I guess.
