Have you ever met another WoV member in real-life?
If so, who did you meet? (optional)

Please only include members that you first met on WoV prior to meeting in person. (For example, if you were friends with another member prior to joining WoV, then that doesn't count)

I don't understand why every poll has the bigot answer. Doesn't having a non answer defeat the purpose of asking the question.

Met: Wizard, Teddys, Axelwolf, Tiltpoul, Bahdboy, Rudeboyoi, Terapined, PaiGowDan, Djatc, KeyserSoze (Sort of)

There are a number of additional Members I will be meeting soon at a gathering at either Rivers Casino or Meadows Casino, for Members who live around or wish to make it to the Pittsburgh area, either next month or February. I'm thinking February, so everyone has time to plan for it.

I have met Wizard, teliot, CRMousseau, Paradigm, CrystalMath, PaiGowDan, miplet, DJTeddyBear, Pacman, RNewman, and a half dozen other guys off this forum (whose real names I remember but not 100% sure of some of their exact forum names; I know them when I see them on here but most don't post much). Universally really interesting and worthwhile people; can't thank the Wizard enough for the opportunity. My life is richer for them and several others here who I don't yet know in person. I don't think I knew anyone in real life before I met them on the forum, but there may be some who haven't made that connection to me, since I had no background in gaming and there's not a lot of overlap from my professional world.

I'll be in Vegas again in the near future and everytime
I go I think I'm going to set up a meet with somebody
from the forum and I never do. I'm thinking it again
and I probably won't. I don't know who it would be

Not that I know of...then again, since I spend most of my time in Vegas either (a) walking between casinos (and not necessarily on the Strip or Fremont Street, mind you), (b) on a bus, or (c) in a buffet, that's not particularly unexpected.

The one member whom I would actually consider meeting is gr8player. Putting aside his BS for a second, he intrigues me because he's the only person I've ever come across over the internet who can write so eloquently about absolutely NOTHING. And I mean NOTHING. He's written umpteen posts, yet all we really know about the guy is that he plays baccarat & bets trends. That's it!

Yes, those three WoVCon visits represent almost all of my real-life encounters with forum members. Below is the list of people that I know I have met, but I think there were several others whose names I did not get recorded:

Wizard
Mdh
rdw4potus
allenwalker
Croupier
gofaster87
Nareed
Tiltpoul
TIMSPEED
loach
NicksGamingStuff
rudeboyoi
tupp
paisiello
Paigowdan
HotBlonde
Ahigh
DRich
AcesAndEights
MidwestAP
MrV
SonBP2
RaleighCraps

I have posted photos of most of those in the various WoVCon threads. I have seen RaleighCraps in Biloxi, MS and Cherokee, NC.

I've met maybe about 100 different people from the slot forums at 3 meet and greets. It's nice to see the faces of the posters and chat in person. I can see however how people here might not like it though when being recognized is something you try daily to not have happen. For me those trips are mainly excuses just to travel or else I just never do it. One thing I don't like is photography just because it creeps me out allowing people to recognize me when I don't know them. I guess it's possible I have met people from here if they use another alias or a lurking poster Ive forgotten.

My wife and I met raleighcraps, who is a wonderful person. When we were in Vegas last, we thought to meet the Wiz, but it seemed like an imposition and since we were on vacation anyhow it wasn't that big a deal one way or the other.

I'm not all that sociable. I like it on my terms, but parties, crowds, and light gatherings are painful for me. I have to be very outgoing professionally, so when I'm not at work I try to turn all that off. I have family, but no friends, and I like it that way. Not interested. All this Internet stuff, it all takes place in my mind, where I get to turn it on and off at my will, so that works just fine.

I meet everyone that was at the Mission nuggets, with the exception of Dan, I don't remember interacting with him. If we shook hands I don't remember it. No sleep lost on both of our parts I'm sure.

Other then that, I meet 2 people from this forum that, I'm now doing a lot business with. They are both fun smart individuals and its been very lucrative, I believe good things are to come.

One guy is dam smart, but he is young and bit green, and I'm like, WTF were you thinking sometimes. He is a hard worker, I seem him go 24 with 2 hrs of sleep, then get up and make a all day play, He's the nicest honest kid in the world, I consider him A great friend now. He will always have somewhere to go, or help if he needs it. I really like this kid and think my life is better for meeting him. I trust him with any amount of money and other things.

Same with the other individual, He has helped advance things, hes not old but he is fairly seasoned in life, I have complete faith in him, his logic and decision making skills are excellent. Sometimes I trust his more then mine. It's to have someone to confirm things with.

Both are the kind of guys that will bail you out of jail at 3 am if needed with no questions asked.

It may be a motley crew, but it works.

I meet someone else who, I look forward to doing some things with, hopefully after the first of the year.

A few months ago someone started a poll that dealt with some gay issue. There were several answers, you had a choice to agree with her or be a bigot. Naturally the bigot answer stuck and is a constant source of amusement.

On topic, I have met no one, there are very few I would care to meet. There are even a couple folks that more than likely wouldn't survive the encounter. Thanks for asking.

Yep, same here.

I met the Wiz first, when I bought a couple of gold coins from him; that was spring 2012. Later I met most everyone who was at the HB weigh-in* in October 2012; SOOPOO, HotBlonde, teddys, and I think that's it for that trip? Then at WovCon /// a whole bunch of people, who I will refrain from naming since I will undoubtedly forget someone. But you can look up the told thread if you're really curious about it.

*edited to add this was technically the weekend AFTER the HB weigh-in, which was on a Wednesday.

I usually run into Wiz and teliot at the WGPC, although I won't be there this year =(

I've been in the same building as AZDuffman a few times, but wasn't able to hook up. I'm sure we'll get together sometime.

I've spoken to SOOPOO on the phone, been in the same casino, been in the same hospital, hell, he might have even put my son under for surgery at one point. But no official meet as of yet. Now that I'm border legal I've been hankerin' for some asian gaming, so maybe soon...

While I'm there, I might even run into boymimbo and probably ontariodealer as well. And I'll surely be looking for varmenti.

I live close to and play hockey in the town that EvenBob's daughter lives (or lived). I keep waiting for an invite, but I suspect he doesn't want to blow his curmudgeon cover by showing he's really just a sweet old softy. I'll be heading to da U.P. in about a month, maybe I'll just drop in on my way through =p

And OG has a standing invite to let me take him fishing, although I can't imagine why anyone would voluntarily visit Buffalo. But who knows? Maybe he'll tire of fishing for crick chubs and let me set him onto some five pounders ;)

Funnier things have happened, and I do appreciate that invite, assuming you can stand fishing with someone not in your class [we're talking Mr. Cheap Spinning Reel here] . You can relax in the short term though, won't be darkening your doorstep anytime soon, doesn't seem.

There are way too many people for me to attempt to name. And my rather piss-poor memory for names makes it difficult to even try. Hell, I even had a hard time remembering how many times I have been to Vegas since my first WoV meeting.

So instead, I'll just name those that I've had the opportunity to meet when there weren't other WoV members around.

The first WoV member I met was PaiGowDan. September 2010, I was coming to town for a wedding professional's conference. He had arranged for me to show my original concept, Hit It Again Roulette to a game distributor while in town. He also did me a favor of picking me up at the airport, driving me to that distributor, driving me to the Wizard's Lunch where I met Mike and some other members, and finally, driving me back to the airport. Thanks again Dan!

Sometime in 2011 I met PacoMartin at the Sands in PA. I had met him at the Wiz Lunch, but somehow I learned he lives near the Sands. That's the closest casino to my home (about 80 miles) so I called him to meet the next time I went there.

September 2011, I skipped the wedding convention and came for G2E. I met a bunch of people there. Since Miplet and I were both staying at the IP, we walked to breakfast and G2E together and spent most of our days together. As it happened, we were both leaving town around the same time, so we also rode together to an airport shuttle with some non-WoV people.

During that trip, I had managed to get a meeting with someone from TCSJohnHuxley at their event at the Palms. While there, I met MrCasinoGames.

May 2012 I was in town for ShuffleMaster's Focus Group and met a bunch of members. Most of us went to lunch together afterwards. The next day, I met I think Paradigm at Caesars, where we played craps for a little while, then went to a snack bar where we chatted for about an hour.

September 2012, G2E. Met a bunch more, but didn't meet anybody individually.

December 2012 I was at Harrah's AC for the WSOP tour event. While there, I was playing craps and got into a conversation with the guy next to me which eventually led to me giving him a WoO/WoV business card. He said he's been here many times, and was a lurker. I told him who I was and he lit up like he was meeting a celebrity.

July 2013. SHFL's Game Demo Day. Met some more members. I don't know if it counts, but after the event was over I was chatting alone with NewToCraps and his wife for over half an hour in SHFL's lobby. Does that count?

Before leaving town, I met Dan at Green Valley Ranch. We played EZPaiGow together, then switched over to High Card Flush. For whatever stupid reason, he got me to bet on the side bet. Good thing, because a couple hands later I got a 6 card flush for a 100 to 1 payout! That $500 turned my entire trip around. Thanks Dan!

September 2013, G2E. Met a bunch more. Did the Wiz dinner and gambling. After the gambling, I asked those still there if anyone had a car and could give me a ride to the rental center. I forget who it was that gave me the ride, but would that count if I could remember?

The next morning, I kinda ditched G2E for the morning and played a poker tourney at Harrah's. After a while, I realized that BeachBumBabs was at the other table. Eventually we both made final table. At one point I even called the floor on her! (There are no friends in poker!) Babs was making a raise, but it looked to me like a string bet, so I called the floor. Before the floorperson got there it was resolved as several other players said they heard her say raise first.

October 2013. I had a private meeting with Roger Snow and a couple casino execs to talk about Poker For Roulette. While in town, I spent an evening with Dan.

Funnier things have happened, and I do appreciate that invite, assuming you can stand fishing with someone not in your class [we're talking Mr. Cheap Spinning Reel here] . You can relax in the short term though, won't be darkening your doorstep anytime soon, doesn't seem.

Me? The guy with $25 rod/reel combos and hand picked bait? The guy that got dusted by his girlfriend in the year long fishing championship?

Yeah. You'll be fine ;)

From boat launch to Seneca Niagara Casino is ~20 minutes. Add 30 minutes for the crossing if you want Fallsview, or 5 minutes if you just wanna swim across the river =p Anytime from May to September. Bring your sunscreen. I got the beer =)

A few months ago someone started a poll that dealt with some gay issue. There were several answers, you had a choice to agree with her or be a bigot. Naturally the bigot answer stuck and is a constant source of amusement.

Oh thank you, memes are so much better when you understand them.

I found the thread: https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/off-topic/off-topic/14387-good-news/

The news was a favorable ruling for gay marriage, and the question was how do you feel about it?

I always include a "bigot" option in all of my polls. It's always good for at least 5-6 votes. Lots of bigots here. ;)

DJTB,

What happened to, "What you play here, let it stay here!"? Geez, I lied and said I'd hired a gigolo and it went into overtime, and now you out me. I'm so ashamed.

If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

You've written that at least twice it was by coincidence, pretty amazing [if I have that right]

As for myself, never met anybody here, but played chess online against the Wizard once.

O,
The first meeting between Doc and I was in Biloxi. It was coincidence that we were both going to be there the same time, but the meet up was planned after we both agreed it would be fun to meet.
The Cherokee meet up was pure coincidence. This casino is 6 hours from my house, and Doc has a fair distance to drive too. So this was pure happenstance. In fact, the only reason we probably even spoke at the craps table was due to the fact I was wearing my WOO shirt. That started the conversation, and then we realized we had met before.
I'm sure Doc won't mind me saying, "That's what happens when two old guys meet once every 2 or 3 years".

I've met;
Doc (and wife) - Biloxi and Cherokee
Mosca (and wife) - Moheghan Sun in Wilkes Barre
Teddys (and 3 buddies) - Vegas
Superrick - Vegas

failed trying to meet up with Ahigh and Wizard.

As others have stated, I too am extremely pleased with everyone I have met. Everyone has been very pleasant and most accommodating. Superrick and I have hit the local Vegas casinos on two different trips to Vegas, and he was kind enough to even pick us up at the airport.

BTW, -- teddys left the biggest impression on my wife! She thinks he is the bomb. Did I leave you two alone at some point?
[In my best Ricky Ricardo voice] - teddy, you have some 'splainin to doooo! lol

I also exchanged mail, real names, and payments with a number of forum members who ordered WOO shirts. While this wasn't a meet up, it did put a more personal touch to our forum existence. To protect the anonymity of those who wished to order shirts, I have never referred back to the real names. Some don't care, some do. I would also note that in a positive reinforcement to the character of the people on this forum, if I recall the total bill was a little over $1000, and every single person paid in full. One of the few times I have done a large group order for items and not gotten stuck for a few bucks.

Babs -

Sorry I screwed up your lame gigolo cover story, but you should feel honored that I remembered who you were, and that I remembered it when I wrote that post.

But really. Gigolo? Nobody's gonna believe that story when there were so many fine, geeky, WoV members available that you could have had your way with...

Oh, I see, no, I don't blame her for hiring the Gigolo [g]

I kept explaining that they usually don't always push the chips towards you, that sometimes they take them from you.... I'm up for a meet in Canada.... just text or PM me....
