He ain't getting one. Perhaps next year.
From the perspective of someone who switched over from Nintendo products:
Pros
- Kinect and voice controls are fun
- Video quality is amazing
- Large online presence
- Fairly good OS
- Good integration with products like Netflix, Skype
Cons
- Kinect and voice controls are occasionally fussy
- OS is a little tricky to master, many hidden options
- no support for 360 game roster
- small launch roster, expect to see many titles appear after x-mas
1) The controllers... I really dislike Sony's, while I find Xbox's to be comfortable.
2) The games... Sony sure does have a bunch of cool looking games, but the only game I really look forward to is Halo, and mainly for the story. Since I've never owned a Playstation, I don't really care much about their first party titles. I'll admit that some of them look really cool, though.
3) Online stuff, Microsoft does it better, IMO. They also seem to do better with other features.
4) I own a bunch of digital stuff through MS, so that slightly leans me towards buying their hardware.
None of these are huge reasons why the Xbox is better. In fact, I don't really think I'd argue it's better, I just have more reasons to go with Xbox.... Especially because the one game series I really like is exclusive to it - and that there are more, and better, other features on Xbox vs. Playstation (from what I hear.) I'm too busy to really spend a lot of time on video games - so that matters a decent amount when I'm potentially using the Xbox for other things.

I'm done. I just want good games, and my collection of Genesis, NES, Super Nintendo, PS1 and PS2 games will suffice as I still play them to this day. My next purchase will be a proper gaming PC so I can play my flight combat and racing sims, and if a game is badass enough (See: Skyrim), the PC will port it and do it better with a hundred free mods.
So long, console wars. Hello, PC snobbery =)

Everything today is online hype (with the requisite weeks of delay due to server overload), asshole kids blowing up the voice chat, focus on "entertainment" like web surfing and media, a hundred microtransactions just to get the complete game...

Yeah most everything now from the older games can be played with emulators so it's good in that sense. I have a collection of Intellivision games that I play every now and then. Dungeons and Dragons: Treasure of Tarmin is still fun 30+ years later. Even the MMOs I play now are a bit older like Vanguard and City of Heroes, well until it was closed anyways. I think that is in part too to more action and "twitch" combat, first person shooter controls and what not. Just not for me. I'm not a super slow game but I don't need to get carpal tunnel trying to keep up either.
Don't feel like I'm missing out with any of the new stuff. Besides my next MMO adventure is going to be called Vegas. I grind in various smokey casinos 8-10 hours a day leveling up my bankroll while trying to avoid the evil monster known as Project 86.

lol this is exactly how I feel. Experience points and level ups are replaced with hitting royals and growing bankroll.
