Probably hard to put a price on 13000, especially after having to haul them around in the truck and load and unload them. Including having to repair some of them and clean others.

I shudder to think of the ramifications if Mission were to offer a low ball price for all them, that might be considered cheap or rude. Oh the irony.

Standard operating procedure at GMG.

I use that term all the time now. Rather than say "cut their price in half" I simply quote the Great Richard Rollings, and "Gas Monkey them."

Listen guys, let me offer some of my personal experience.
My business associate and I were doing garage sales hunting. A lot of times, the items were overpriced. Put it this way, we pay more at the store because there is warranty on the items. (Unless that is a dollar store, all sales final stuff.) At garage sales or antique sales, all sales are final, you cannot bring back the item to ask for a refund or exchange or repair or warranty call. The risk factor plays a heavy role in the price.
I usually offered 2 dollars on a 10 dollars item. 1 dollar on 5 dollars item. 25 cents on anything for 2-3 dollars. Guess what, I got a lot of goodies. Some people didnt like it but A LOT OF PEOPLE were so glad I took the items off their hands. I told the vendors;"Think of this item is going to a good home with some good use of it. Instead of sitting here as junk occupying space"

Garage sales are totally different than antique shows
or even flea markets. The purpose of a garage sale
is to get rid of the stuff you don't want, at any price
you can get sometimes. The point of the other markets
is to make a profit.

Garage sales are also a way to run a permit free enterprise and avoid bookkeeping or paying taxes.

There are neighborhood sales where the whole community displays stuff.

It's also a venue to sell stolen property.

I read a scam happening where people will break into homes that aren't full time occupied and just move the stuff out to the curb and sell it for cash right there. Including the appliances.

What if the owner walks in and sees his favorite pants sold for a buck? If I was that owner I would not fume about the break in, but the fact, that my favorite pants has been sold for a buck.

I bought a lot of my inventory at yard sales or storage rental units. ( what a joke storage wars is )....

Can you elaborate, Buzz? Besides the producers salting the units with expensive goodies to increase ratings, and helping poorer buyers by sharing the bidding price, and the negative personalities needling each other, why do you think it's a joke? Is it the prices paid? The items inside the lockers? Behavior of the bidders? Reselling later to antique dealers? What?

Just about all of the above. Units go for $25-100 most times. Think about it, I have shit worth thousands in storage and I am to dumb to get it out and pawn it. DUH And a guy will drag out a beat up end table and say " I can get $80 for this in my shop. LOL

I knew a guy who would buy units for no higher than $50, dump everything on a 10 by 10 space at Mile High, then start, anything you want for $25 or whatever and work his way down to 25 cents.

How good is the stuff in 99% of the lockers ? Lots of auctions you have to post $100 cash to ensure you haul all that shit away within 24 hours.

Every once in a while you might get something when the owner is in jail. Maybe A Cd collection or Dvds. But most of the stuff is just plain shit.

My wife and I fell for it. But later I found that was not possible because I knew restaurant equipment. The price was not realistic for resale.

It's the biggest scam on TV. All the units on TV are salted. They
go to a local shop and the owner loans them an item. The put
the item in a locker and 'find' it later. They then take it back to
the shop where it came from and the owner tells them the value
of his own item, which he gets back. This has all been documented,
even the loud mouthed guy who quit and is suing them says that's
what they do.

The show has really hurt the people who do lockers for a living. Lots
of people show up now at locker auctions thinking they will find
treasures, and run the bids up to the moon. I've heard guys say,
who've been doing it for 20 years, they have yet to find anything
of real value in a locker. People keep the really good stuff home,
they don't stick it in a storage locker.

Back in the 90's I thought about buying storage units in Vegas with a friend in hopes of finding real valuable things. Never really thought about selling all the crap on eBay or starting a 2nd hand store. One place wanted a flat $300 per unit, one catch they would not let you view the locker at all. Claiming none of them ever looked inside, like I was going for that BS.

Win or lose, I still think this would be extremely fun and picking to.
