I have an old PC running Office 2007. When I get a new machine I plan to wipe the hard drive in the old one and then get rid of it (probably I'll give it away, I couldn't sell it in good conscience). Anyway, I want to install Office 07 in my new PC, but I'm unsure whether the license will work, given it was already installed in the old machine. The license is for three PCs and this was installed in only two (the other being my laptop, which I'm keeping until it croaks).

Does anyone know whether uninstalling it erases that use of the license?

Thanks!

There is a way to kill the license to the old machine when installing software to the new one, though in this case you wouldn't have to; Microsoft help should guide you to the right place to do it. I'm assuming it's a separate purchase and not a pre-installed product proprietary to the machine. I haven't done it for several years or I'd be more specific, but I've done it for Microsoft, Adobe, and Symantec (Norton) products without a problem before.

I think you'll need the MAC number of the old machine as well as the 25 digit code, so they can cancel that association in their system.

Thanks.

Yes, the Office was purchased separately.

I just don't want the SBA coming down on me. They did once in my dad's business once, and our Office was legitimate.

As I recall, it's pretty simple.

The license is managed by MicroSoft's central server. So before you ditch the old computer, uninstall it. (Or simply deactivate it using some option within the program.) That will update the central server enabling you to install it on the new computer.
