Socialism is simply redistributing money by force - taking from some to give to others.
Capitalism has nothing to do with either of the above.
Like I said, Socialists squeal at the top of their lungs when they are defined; they are criminals who believe they are moral ..........

No, it isn't.
Quote:Capitalism has nothing to do with either of the above.
Surely, the most capitalistic of all societies would still have to implement taxes?
Quote:Like I said, Socialists squeal at the top of their lungs when they are defined;
I don't think anyone "squealing" in this thread actually condones what's going on in the US, so you can quit this line.
The problem with using wrong definitions is that it looks silly, discredits your opinion, and actually does a disservice to the position you are trying to defend.
That's the definition of Socialism - except Socialists don't steal my money with knives and guns but with politicians, courts, lawyers, and law enforcement.
Socialists believe that what is mine is theirs to do with as they please as long as they have 50.0001% of the votes of fellow criminals...................
Quote: MauiSunsetSocialism is very simple:
1) Punish the achievers in life with high taxes
2) Reward the losers in life with subsidies paid for by the achievers
Socialism is simply redistribution of Peter's wealth to pay for Paul's pathetic life.
Sadly the old 80/20 rule applies and there are 4 times as many losers as winners and thus just vote to steal the wealth from the achievers.
That's Obamaville, what used to be the USA................
GREAT, GREAT POST !!!!!!

There have always been losers, lots of them, And then
welfare and food stamps and SSI and a myriad of other
programs came along to prop the losers up.
Before that, the losers lived with their families. They
were a burden to their relatives. Then along comes
the gov't that says losers deserve to live just as well
as everybody else. They deserve a car and air conditioner,
a fridge, a color TV, a microwave, and now even an
Obamaphone. Before the crash, they deserved a house
they couldn't pay for, or a free apartment. In 1960 they
would have been living with aunt Grace, or mom and dad.
So we'll go broke making sure the lazy uneducated losers
can sit home and watch Judge Judy while the rest of us
pull our weight and theirs too. Obamaville.

What in the flying fuck is an Obamaphone? Can we stop using that term? I have an Android smart phone and it has nothing to do with Obama.
I am sorry for the strong language, I had to tone it down even from my original draft. But in this case I think it's warranted. I don't like Obama and didn't vote for him, but somehow conflating smart phone adoption with Obama's left-wing social policies is just madness.

Amen Brother!!
Bankruptcy is the logical consequence of a government out of control.
Will Americans learn from that?
Of course not, Liberalism/Socialism has dumbed down the average citizen so they are more manageable and are very good at sticking their hands out for more government freebies; useful idiots.
I know the big thing right now is illegal aliens swarming into America, but it won't be long before the few smart folks start immigrating out of America, to lands where opportunities exist without a centralized government telling them what kind of light bulb to buy.
Imagine, the walls we are building now will eventually be used to keep us from leaving........

Okay okay okay...I retract my strong language. I was not aware of these phones. However, if Bob is right that the program existed under Bush as well, the term "Obamaphone" is misleading and stupid.
Quote: MauiSunsetI know - it's all George Bush's fault..........
Are you fucking kidding me? I pointed out ONE program that existed under Bush and and is continuing under Obama, and you claim that I'm blaming it all on George Bush? Take a hike buddy...debating with you is pointless.
For all the bad stuff.
For any good news, like killing OBL, then I hear "I did it , I did it all by myself".
It gets nauseating.........

Not if it is a just society. MauiSunset rightly pointed out that socialists are criminals who demanded to be called good guys.
"taxes" is a word that criminals who demand to be called good guys use to obscure the fact that they are stealing from you.
A society built on a healthy respect for individuals and property rights could not have taxation.
The problem is that Obama embarked in the same sort of spending spree, only more so.
Quote: NareedOh, Bush the younger bears a great deal of responsibility for the current mess. He is a big government conservative, after all, and he did a lot to add new spending, even after discounting the money needed to fight in Afghanistan and Iraq. Not to mention the TARP later on...

Are you saying that every country in the world is socialist?
Well, in that case, the term loses any meaning, as saying "socialist country" becomes entirely equivalent to just "country".
Quote: weaselmanAre you saying that every country in the world is socialist?
Well, in that case, the term loses any meaning, as saying "socialist country" becomes entirely equivalent to just "country".
I would agree that every country in the world is socialist, but most people do not. Consider roads, the provision of roads in this country is most certainly socialism. We don't like to think of it that way but that is in fact what is going on. A government gun has a gun at your ribs to make you pay for the roads but you also get to use them.
'Country' is actually another word for government. Find this hard to believe? I did too at first. Consider this: On 1/3/1959, the country grew, the land mass of Alaska was added. One day Alaska was not part of the country, the next day it was. How did this happen? The government people in Alaska followed a set of procedures laid out by the government....
The vast majority of all roads in America were privately built and then turned over the the state to allow potholes to form.
Take a look out your front window and you probably paid for the chunk of road in front of your house, or the original owner did - there are 130,000,000 private homes in America each with a chunk of road they paid for the width of your property and half the width of the street.
Everything else is either toll roads where I pay a fee to drive or paid for by gasoline taxes that I pay every time I fill up my tank.
User fees are a fantastic way to pay for my little part of the road system that I use.
Most of the other arguments of "It takes a village" are just as bogus..............
Quote: MauiSunsetI constantly hear the old saw "You can't make it on your own" - you use public roads, for instance and you owe your fortune to the community.

I completely agree that roads OUGHT not be socialized, but they are.

So, then the point you are making is, pretty much, that USA is a country, right?
Well, I don't think anyone would argue with that ...

Anyone can go into a W-Mart store and buy one for either $10 or $20.

But I dislike the texting part: just dial the friggin number stored in the phone!
The point is "The Haves versus The Have-Nots". If you piss-off the former, they take their money and go elsewhere.
If you piss-off the latter, a riot will ensue. The chances of Death and Destruction side with the latter group. But after they've burned and looted, and pillaged, they will leave too, as no one still gives a damn about them, especially after said rioting, looting, and pillaging. The REAL problem is that some of the Haves are using the Have-Nots as strong-arm tactics (can you say "PAWN"?) to get what they (the Haves) want. It comes with large amounts power and wealth.
Dont' Blame the President (either one!) for this mess blame CONGRESS for passing the legislation, and veto-overrides. Yeah, suff the legislation with some tidbit Potus wants, but shovel in all the manure it'll hold.

Yesterday our house was just appraised by Zillow down another -2.2%, a horrible week for Obama, and the country in hock up to our eyeballs.
Apparently Americans want more Socialism - they are not done binging on the dream of having the good life and making others pay for it.
As a Conservative Romney is a little better than Obama but in the long run it won't matter.

It turns out that politicians really can't run a city, state, or country, and that what the people really want is a rotting corpse of a once great society - just as long as it's free.

When PA was settled, all of the "Patent Grants" of land had a reservation clause in them stating that 6% of the land was reserved for roads. It was supposed to be 10% but they reduced it to 6%. Following this through the chains of title, everyone gives up an average of 6% I guess. Many people "own" half of the road in front of their houe, it is just that it was takn for a road and the deed never straightened out. Or when they laid out the subdivision the developer never deeded the road to the municipality. These are just some fun facs.
Socialists and liberals always make this nonsense claim that "socialism is good--roads are an example of socialism!" This is utter nonsense. First, even in a pure capitalist system, nobody ever caims there is zero role for government. Roads are explicitly allowed in the US Constitution. They are called "post roads" and at the time said roads were about delivering the mails from town to town, but were allowed to be used for other things.
Please, socialists and liberals, come up with a better example.
Quote: EvenBobWhich polls have Obummer 'surging'.
I only look at Real Clear Politics - they take the average of dozens/hundreds of polls - http://www.realclearpolitics.com/
Obama was tied and now is in the lead.
Americans want more Socialism and are hell bent on getting it; sad to say but that's what they now dream of.
I attribute this to the horrible education system in America - 90% unionized:
1) Amerika spends more than all other countries but one: http://mercatus.org/publication/k-12-spending-student-oecd
2) Amerika is now at the 3rd world education level: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/07/education/07education.html

Politicians have learned that the bum puking his guts out from last night's binder has the same vote as Donald Trump; only there are hundreds of thousands just like our bum to 1 rich guy.
That's the Achilles' Heel of America - they are not equal and we all know it; and the reason America has peaked.

You have it backwards. Overturning Obamacare would have
been the best thing for Obama. Now the election will be all
about Obamacare, just what the Obama people didn't want.
They were hoping to spend the rest of the summer railing
against the SC that robbed the homeless and poor out
of healthcare. Thats all gone now.
Oops.
