I will be at the house from the afternoon of 02/25 until things are cleaned out (maybe about 10 days). When I am there, I am going to take more pictures and post them.

This is my home, not a hotel. There are no bedbugs here. I keep my home very clean, inside and out. Everything is in good to excellent shape. Most items are free. I will either give most of this stuff away to WoV members and/or their friends or to charity. I've got a house full of things -- everything that one needs to have a household.Quote: Mission146Hotel liquidation sale on the wood armchairs and a few other wood pieces? Not commenting negatively, great deals in doing that, but you want to absolutely drill that stuff with bedbug dead spray before taking it home.
I really don't know where you are coming from with the "bedbug" stuff, but that's about as false and inappropriate a statement as you have ever made. Since there is no positive content to your statement, the only possible outcome of what you said is to cause harm to me.
Do you have bedbugs in your home? Is that the issue here? Or are you just taking a shot at me? Shameful.

I think he was recommending anyone that buys stuff from a hotel sale to spray their stuff first before taking it into their home. Not commenting about your stuff specifically when mentioning the bed bugs.

Why would M bring up the topic of bedbugs when buying stuff from a random hotel as a response to this thread about me giving away stuff that's in my home? That's a crazy excuse to make for him. He was just taking a shot at me for no good reason. Without so much as a j/k or LOL to indicate the possibility of a joke, M just blew it.Quote: Zcore13I think he was recommending anyone that buys stuff from a hotel sale to spray their stuff first before taking it into their home. I'm guessing because he was asking if the chairs you are selling came from a hotel. He said the chairs and a couple of other wood items looked like they might have originated from a hotel.
I don't speak for him, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't clear enough in his post and you misunderstood his intentions.

The chairs were a gift from Mike.
Don't you have a Buddah statue? I would be interested in that.

Somebody has a high opinion of them self.
Just kidding.

I'm not taking a shot at anyone!
I was asking if you got any of the stuff from a hotel liquidation sale because the wood armchairs look like those very common to hotel rooms. I followed that up by saying it's not a bad idea because you can get decent stuff at a low price. I've done it before, myself. I was just stating that bedbugs are a problem for some hotels, so you want to be sure to spray anything you get from a hotel liquidation sale, and actually, you also want to leave it outside for acouple days, if possible.
I'd never say anything even remotely designed to offend you, we've always gotten along very well, and as you know, I follow your site pretty religiously and look up to your analytical and mathematical skills much the same as I do Wizard's.
Anyway, the design of the arms and legs is virtually identical, I'm my opinion. Having stayed in many hotels, managed two and worked in three, a full 80% of hotels in which I have been have such chairs.
Okay.Quote: Mission146I'm not taking a shot at anyone!

Teliot is a long- standing member who also happens to be freely giving away some of this stuff. Further, none of the posted items are anything that would compete with this site or the purposes thereof.
To wit, if you were to make a thread of this nature, you would not need pre-approval.
I asked his honor Zuga for permission and he told me to go ahead.Quote: aceofspadesDo FOR SALE threads still have to be pre-approved—assuming this was as Mission is in here
Mike, it is for sale but not a giveaway. I really like it and would otherwise be happy to bring it back to Santa Barbara with me.Quote: WizardDon't you have a Buddah statue? I would be interested in that.
If you are still interested, you would have to answer the following question first: "Does a Buddha statue have Buddha nature?"
Quote: Mission146I can also take a picture to substantiate, if you like. Those chairs are substantially similar to chairs that can be found at the hotel I manage. Except, perhaps the seat is not as wide at the hotel...and I want to say the seats are purple. Light purple? I can take pictures if you like, my color perception sucks.

Does your hotel have bedbugs?

They are coming here on Wednesday, March 4. So, anything not claimed before then is to be donated thereunto.
Quote: 1BBDoes your hotel have bedbugs?
No, but some do. My hotel is also not impervious to the little b******s. Cleanliness, price, none of it matters...no hotel is immune, or safe. All it takes is one guest who has them, they get into luggage. One hotel can pass tem to five others via one guest. Very expensive to eradicate them.
If you have stayed in ten hotels, and look up Reviews, I'd be shocked if less than two have some mention of someone thinking they got bedbugs. There's some paranoia there, too, but some is legit. Someone goes out and gets bitten by a mosquito, but happens to be staying in a hotel; they automatically believe one of the damned creatures got them.
It's a mess. I would personally spray any second-hand furniture before bringing it home. That has nothing to do with Teliot, for the record, it could come from the White House...doesn't matter, I'm spraying it.
I confess to dumpster-diving a queen-sized mattress when I was in my early 20's (in grad school, living on $400/month). From the outside it looked very clean. I spent a week spraying and fumigating the thing before I brought it inside.Quote: Mission146I would personally spray any second-hand furniture before bringing it home.
By law, you cannot donate a mattress to a non-profit, nor can a store sell it on consignment. This leaves me one outstanding piece of furniture in need of a home: the queen-sized bed in my guest room that was slept on about 10 nights total in 5 years.

If your are still interested, you would have to answer the following question first: "Does a Buddha statue have Buddha nature?"
I'm happy to entertain paying for the Buddha. Can you bring it to breakfast tomorrow and we'll haggle there.
To answer the requisite question, I'm sure incorrectly, yes, I think the Buddha statue does have Buddha nature. This is because it is the nature of Buddah to be constant, never wanting anything, never engaging in things that bring only temporary happiness, never suffering. That could all be said of the statue, unless you drop and break it.
Quote: WizardI'm happy to entertain paying for the Buddha. Can you bring it to breakfast tomorrow and we'll haggle there.
Yes, it is in my car.
This assumes that the statue has the choice to be otherwise, which begs the question, can a rock have desire? I use the word "desire" for a reason: as every good Buddhist knows, the cause of suffering is desire.Quote: WizardTo answer the requisite question, I'm sure incorrectly, yes, I think the Buddha statue does have Buddha nature. I don't think my statue has the anthropomorphic quality of suffering. But, I do think my dog is capable of suffering. This makes things much more complex, because of the well-known Koan, "Does a dog have Buddha nature?" from which I drew my Koan above. Suffering by itself is not sufficient.
Unlike Mickey, this is what happens to me after I drink too much. Bushmills is my brew of choice.

Tough times, of course, they used DDT then, which all but eradicated bedbugs from the whole country. DDT just has that whole, "Being a carcinogen," problem now and is largely illegal.
I always look for cheap deals on furniture. Having sold it, I am fully aware of how ridiculous the prices for new furniture are compared to the cost to make it. If you buy some sort of wood furniture, and sell it five years later for 25%, you still probably got three times the original cost to build it, unless it's handmade.
The only value in new furniture is mattresses, I don't believe I'd ever buy anything else new, even if I were a billionaire, unless a furniture store happened to be liquidating.
Mattresses can be difficult to divest yourself of, I hope someone takes it. It would be a terrible waste for it to go to the landfill.

I was merely giving Teliot "the business" as he gave plenty to me back in my Vegas TR that reached 80 pages way back when :)
All in good fun

WOW - I try to extend the olive branch and that is how you retort…maybe with the money you make from your online yard sale you can buy some class!
I'm not sure what he meant by that.
Quote: teliotI just sold $2000 worth of items to Mike's "friends in need" for $220. I have far fewer items now. But, I still have the f*****g mattress.
I'd accept it in a heartbeat if you were closer to me. The Mrs. has taken to sleeping in the lounger the past few weeks because our bed sucks. Baby isn't due for another month. My heart breaks each night when she goes to sleep.
On a side note. On the rare occasion I do visit the pub, I also drink Bushmills. I usually catch an earful from the guys from Ireland for drinking a Protestant Whiskey, but I love it. It's no Middleton's but it's a great whiskey for it's price point.

I've tried to drink Jameson (the "Catholic" whiskey), but honestly, it doesn't come close. I drink a tall tumbler of Bushmills over ice.

I'm actually in San Diego, the name is more a tounge in cheek commentary on the naming of the Hoover Dam as well as a play on words. I'm a bit of a history buff.
Yup, the exact same way I take my whiskey.

Teacups can have Buddha-nature, even when dropped and broken.
"Ikkyu, the Zen master, was very clever even as a boy. His teacher had a precious teacup, a rare antique. Ikkyu happened to break this cup and was greatly perplexed. Hearing the footsteps of his teacher, he held the pieces of the cup behind him. When the master appeared, Ikkyu asked: “Why do people have to die?”
“This is natural,” explained the older man. “Everything has to die and has just so long to live.”
Ikkyu, producing the shattered cup, added: “It was time for your cup to die.” "
With all the fire retardant chemicals in mattresses abandoning it might be a good deal.
All the rage in Tasmania now are Mattress Rehabilitation firms specializing in avoiding indoor pollution.
Yes, almost no one trusts a used mattress.Quote: FleaStiffParting with a mattress may be difficult.
A veteran (21 years of service) was renting his first home since retiring from the Army. He told me that he had to move every couple of years between bases and that there was a poundage/size limit on what he was allowed to bring with him if he was required to move. He was basically starting from scratch. He had a bumper sticker on his truck, kind of a Go Army! thing, and Army tattoos, so I knew he was legit. On top of the bed, he took a bunch of other stuff for $180 total. He was so amazed as the low price for the stuff he bought that he just gave me another $20. I could not think of a better person to help out.
