I've dodged several incidents where someone almost rear ended me.
Is it really that important to text while driving?
I don't text, well almost never. I don't like texting, and several other things, which brings us back, once again, to Joel.....Quote: JoelDezeThe person that invents blocking texting while in motion will become a wealthy person. I'm quite annoyed on a daily basis when I see younger people texting while driving. You can easily tell when they do it. The vehicle tends to coast, sways left and right, goes well below the speed limit.

The penalties need to be severe. I'm sure there's alot of flaws in my business plan.
I have had several close calls from drivers texting.
Perhaps after the third offense they could cut of the drivers fingers :)

It seems to be going the other way. There are actually features of social media apps that encourage folks (drivers) to take selfies while the app uses the phone's GPS to compute and post how fast they are moving. People are dying. Crazy Dumb.

Yes! Why?
Bernie may have just tweeted out a new message
New weed may have just arrived, grab it quick
Manson may get parole, need to write parole board on how it was just free love
Food bank just got restocked, get there fast
Trump coming to town, grab the Mexican flags
New jobs available, avoid at all costs.
Feel free to add your own.

I agree it is annoying. How many times a car in traffic almost causes an accident and you get alongside and she still has he face buried in the phone.
Quote: mcallister3200I don't always text and drive, but when I do I'm also simultaneously watching porn and making knuckle children.
What is making knuckle children?

I think he means he is spanking the bishop.
motorists have to hide the phone and look away from the road longer... hence more accidents.
Same thing with red light camera, lots of tickets, lots of easy revenue...more accidents.
So where are your priorities?
Some people can drive safely at .05 blood alcohol level. Some people can't drive safely at .000 blood alcohol level. Some people are great drivers who use their phones occasionally, and some people are bad drivers.
I think everyone should have to take a driving test every 10 years in order to maintain their license.

Yeah, I think so, too, but I was hoping he'd have to explain it to me. :)
It just occurred to me...you ignore the little knob (on the standard chess piece ) and it even has the curvy little vertical slash... I always thought the reference was to the mitered hat, but I bet it's the chess piece.
Knuckle children, though? Bizarre.
It's my understanding that the bishops are the ones who like spanking children.Quote: JoelDezeI think he means he is spanking the bishop.
Quote: surrender88sWhat gets ignored by reactive blanket legislation is that not all people in the demographic behave in the same way.

Whatever BAC you're at when you take the test (and pass) is your legal limit! If you can make 5 Twitter posts during the driving test, you'll be allowed to use phone & drive.
Quote: FleaStiffLook folks, just about every state that has passed anti cell phone use laws has had an increase in accidents.

Not really. All you have to do is put the phone away and wait until later to read/send text messages. It shouldn't cause any additional accidents at all. Blame the problem on irresponsible "drivers", not on the very sensible laws.
Now as for those folks who agree that texting and driving shouldn't be mixed, I have a little gadget that I find quite helpful. It is my hands-free blu-tooth speaker. Like previous ones I have used, this allows me to voice-dial calls, answer incoming calls, and hear everything just fine with both hands on the steering wheel. (Of course, there is some justifiable sentiment that I shouldn't have such conversations at all while driving because even that can be a distraction.)
This hands-free device, combined with my phone, offers a feature I hadn't had with previous units. I'm not completely certain whether it's a feature of the speaker, the phone, or the combination. Anyway, the device(s) can recognize when they are connected and interpret that to mean I am driving (unless I tell them otherwise). When I am in "driving mode" and a text message comes in, I am not even notified. The system sends an automated reply text that says that I am driving and will get back to the other party when I can. I have plenty of opportunity to do that when I am not behind the wheel. Great system.

It is a closed fist production. 😀
He was an avid bike rider. You would see him almost daily on his bike around the neighborhood (wearing a helmet and a reflective vest, BTW).
Apparently he was riding his bike in the bike lane on vacation, and a distracted driver crossed into the lane and killed him.
So yeah. Don't text and drive.
I hope they throw the book at the driver.
Quote: djatcI only get texts worth replying to while I'm driving
I call that bluff djatc, Axel told me nobody texts you :)
I thought I read that most of the accidents happened x amount of seconds after the call was completed and phone was put down.
Thank god for texting it's taken the focus off of just talking.

I wish they would speed up the testing, production and laws regarding self driving car's. I can't imagine how that's not a big priority and benefit.

There are a number of if not many states where it is illegal to use cell phone (if in hand, not Bluetooth/hands free) while driving. Pretty sure California, and I was pulled over for it in Maryland said reason let me off with warning was because had out of state license. Now I just use speaker phone while driving.

$500 fine in Illinois.
It may be worth it to some people if you can get away with it for a long time without getting caught or causing an accident. Obviously you should just get bluetooth.Quote: tringlomane$500 fine in Illinois.
