I was already up $500 at this point and was just killing time until my bus arrived.
Two other guys were playing there the previous shoe and I joined the next shoe.
They were each betting $50 respectively and I was going the minimum of $25 at First Base.
Before the first hand was dealt of the new shoe, a tall , skinny dealer came in for relief.
I didn't pay much attention, until the 2nd burn card was an Ace. So I rolled my eyes slightly and the shoe started.
Dealer starts off with the usual B.S., dealer shows a 10 and either has a made hand or busts your stiff hand.
Down $100 in the first 4 hands, and the guy to my left starts pressing his bets to $100-$200 a hand, as he also lost the first 4 hands.
Somehow, I get dealt a BJ and the dude to my left has a 12. Dealer shows a 9. Dealer says "Shoulda dealt it over there!" Referring to my Blackjack.
Guy hits his 12 and busts instantly with a Queen.
I throw the extra change on top and keep the pink chip in my stack. Get dealt a 20, guy to the left gets 17 with a $200 bet. Dealer mutters "What a waste!"
Dealer has 18 and pays me $35, making sure to knock the red chips off after paying me. As some kind of threat not to bet Red chips on top?
So naturally I keep the bet at $35 and have a 6-5 vs Dealer 6. Double down for a Jack and dealer goes "Wrong Spot"
With a 6 showing, he as a King under, but gets a 3 and takes the other two players money while paying me. He says to them "This is not right"
I finally ask him "What's not right?"
He goes "They should be winning the way they're betting, I'm giving you all the good hands"
I retort "So I don't deserve to win as much as they do?"
He says "I didn't say that"
"But when you said WRONG SPOT, you implied that because I'm betting less, they should get my winning hands"
He says "No, I meant he should have been able to double down also with the money he's betting"
I go "Sure ya did, how about this..." I put a $75 bet up the next hand, get dealt a Blackjack!
He's showing a 10 and turns over an Ace in the hole!?!?!
I said "Well ya happy now, I raised the bet up and you ruined the hand for me"
He goes "That's kharma"
I go "No, that's bullshit. See ya later!" And walked to the cage with an extra $37.50.
I truly resent being seen as less than worthy of winning because I choose to monitor my bets and have a game plan of winning or losing a certain amount.
Seems he was salty about not being tipped the pink chip and having to pay red chips out at a $25 table. But there's no need to say things like "What a waste and Wrong Spot"
Just another wonderful Taj employee!

A lot of places require this for the camera so that you can't stack 3 reds but be paid with a green and 2 reds.

Oh no, he was grunting as he knocked them off and more or less hurled the chips at me. As if he was upset he had to pay.
Dealers constantly complain about players capping bets, but it's usually when it is with White or Pink chips.

Some dealers are just nasty, spiteful people who are unhappy with their lot in life. Fortunately they are in the minority. They don't usually bother me as long as they deliver the cards as they are supposed to.
The reason they don't like pink chips to be bet is that many have trouble with the payout in the event of a blackjack or a surrender in places other than AC. A $27.50 blackjack pays $41.50 but you'll often get anywhere from $40 to $45. Sometimes I'll correct them. Sometimes. :-)
I hope you tipped that dealer exactly what he was worth. I don't complain about these jerks because I don't want any extra attention from the pit. I would probably rethink that were I a recreational player.

A $27.50 BJ should pay $41.25, not $41.50. Do your casinos really round up?

Yes, they must round up all blackjacks and surrenders. Don't get any ideas, pink action really slows down the game.
Some places just don't pay the quarter I think. IIRC Cleveland Horseshoe was fined just for using quarters which were deemed approved gaming chips.Quote: ams288I always thought they rounded down no matter what. I am SO tempted to bet $27.50 a lot tonight when I'm gambling to try to get a blackjack and see what happens. ;)

Amen.
Yeah, I play black jack to win and to have fun, not to bicker all night long. Heck they rotate dealers every twenty minutes but with this poster we have to put up with something over and over and over again whether its a real or imagined slight. I can understand it in the reality TV Real Housewives bickering contests that make thousands of dollars in each episode but what on earth is this guy gaining coming here to gripe all the time. Can't he just play blackjack quietly or go home?Quote: sabreOP comes across as a giant douche.

+1
Quote: ontariodealerI betyouraces is correct the extra 2.50 gets 4 bucks.....there is a variety of reasons why some dealers do no like the bets topped in reds and pinks and whites
I go to work everyday. I see/experience someone/something I dont like.But I still do my job.
EVERY casino I've played in rounds up in that situation. Apparently it's easier to round up than to argue about a stinkin quarter.Quote: ams288A $27.50 BJ should pay $41.25, not $41.50. Do your casinos really round up?
Of course, they won't break reds into pinks on request, so it's somewhat rare that someone gets a BJ, or needs to surrender, when they're playing the pink chip.

A $15 blackjack gets paid with a pink chip. In my home casinos they will gladly give you all the pink chips you want. It's never been an issue as players use them for side bets and tips for dealers and servers.
Quote: 1BBWhen Mohegan Sun first opened they did not have pink chips. They kept half dollars in the trays. I have no idea why because they still had the rounding up problem.
I've played at lots of places (usually small card rooms) that just use 50 cent pieces and don't bother with $2.50 chips.
That was done because the guy in charge was a Vegas guy, and he like the pink chips.Quote: 1BBWhen Mohegan Sun first opened they did not have pink chips. They kept half dollars in the trays. I have no idea why because they still had the rounding up problem.
Canterbury Park has 50¢ chips that are a couple steps down from what you can buy at Wal-mart.Quote: bwI remember the Riviera in LV used to use a real cheap looking pink chip for 50 cents on the Pai Gow tables for commission. Havent been there in 6-7 years so not sure if they still do. Maybe they were hoping customers would take them as souveniers.
Rounding up or down is dependent on the state gaming commission rules. When I worked in Iowa, we could round down (Making your $5 horn bet pay $33). In Colorado, we had to round up (Most managers were too dumb to allows us to book $5 horn bets).

then you would probably be an excellent dealer.

Gee, imagine that. Someone posting about Casino Gripes in a place for "Gripes" online? Who woulda thought?
By the same token, I could tell you NOT to come to the "Gripes" section if you don't want to hear about complaints.
But then there you go complaining about someone else complaining, quite the hypocrite eh?

No matter what happens and no matter how much of an obnoxious toolbag a person is, I would never openly root against a player, even if I am secretly glad to see a person lose and will tell my floor so. This dealer needed a good, stiff talking-to.
That said, I have one request for my players, and 99% are good about this - please, for the love of all that is holy, bathe before you come to the casino.

This a thousand times over. Sometimes it's the hardest thing in the world to keep your disdain for a player bottled up, but a dealer's first job is to get butts in the chairs and keep them there. Without players, dealers have no paycheck, let alone any tips.

Pretty much, although it's still good to get rid of the toolbags. I had a guy on roulette who was betting nickels and taking shots on me nearly every spin - betting above table max on spots, betting past "no more bets," trying to move bets after "no more bets" - and I was both glad to have the practice dealing with a big player who tried to push me and glad to be rid of him.
Most of my players are fine, though, and I am always glad to have them, especially if it keeps me awake on grave shift.
