a few days ago, so of course today I get an
e-mail offer with a much better rate. That's
a good thing.
So I give the 800 # a call to change the reservation
using the new promo code.
No problem, they can do that. But I end up on
the phone for over 27 minutes (our home phone
has a display on it showing how long the call
was, I don't know why, it just does).
I hope someone there is keeping track of that
sort of thing, ie time per operator per reservation.
There's gotta be a better way.
And yes, for how much I saved, it was worth
it for me to stay on the phone that long.

There is. Just cancel first reservation, not 'change' it. Make new reservation. Done. I've never had any problems making a Rio reservation, or 'changing' it. I think you just got unlucky.

At some point you may switch to a more reliable reservations system and a selection system based on "Said Once, Done at Once and Lived up to". Its hard when there are mainly two casino owners in town but valuing efficiency is good in the end.
if someone is on the phone 27 minutes with me
(there was practically no on-time at the beginning),
then that person is not booking the NEXT person
who tries calling to make a reservation !
Simply cancelling your reservation in advance(at least 2 days) will negate the first reservation free of charge.
You simply re-book it online using the code you received and can get the discounted rate problem free.
I've actually found waiting until the day of can get you the lowest rate, sometimes even Comped if you're a TR member. But obviously you can't leave a planned vacation to chance, so checking the rates every day until that 2 day deadline might help.

I agree with this...
However, I actually got a $7.50 per night rate at Flamingo (12/21-12/24) and since then it has went UP....glad I locked it in at that price!
