I'm from the south and have never heard of the miata labeled as such. Maybe a little on the girly side, but I'm indifferent. To each his own.

I always thought the stereotype was that gay people like subarus.

That's lesbians. I don't know how Subarus became associated with them, but they're known as lesbian cars.

Definitey true in SF. Usually WRX hatchbacks.

It's a weird regional thing with cars, bars, casinos, etc...... I grew up in Hawaii and WRX's were usually for young well off kids that want a "drift car". Same with Miatas. It's full of Asians so the JDM cars get a lot of love.

I don't think it's an "if and only if" thing here. WRX's are definitely popular with the lesbian crowd in SF, but also popular with other groups too. Particularly the skiiers, snowboarders, winter campers... throw some winter tires on them, and they are great cars to drive up to Tahoe (the roads are pretty bad so AWD is a lifesaver). Some people track them too -- they are no STi but they perform well enough and they are fun to drive.

No problem I'm not mad. My car has a lot of noticeable features on it so I prefer not to go into detail what it looks like since I don't want to be flagged by casino personnel at the moment.

Which noticeable features? Like the "Gay and Proud" bumper sticker on the back?

Hey now I know many straight people who drives Miatas.

1. Myself
2. Racers
3. Drifters
4. Asian Gangsters

Firstly, cars are not sentient and therefore unlikely to have a sexual preference. Secondly, why would you allow a comedian's schtick to determine what car you own…?

I have heard Miatas being chick cars, but it's a cheap RWD car that I used to enjoy taking sideways until I crashed into a guard rail, but that's another story.... Also I like 2 seaters. I'm very utilitarian in my automobile choices and prefer no extra weight or luggage space. It does get hectic carrying suitcases however.

The manufacturer actually addresses the chick car belief in their literature. They point out slightly more guys buy the car then women. But they went out of their way to redesign the car to handle golf clubs (not that women don't golf).
