When I last visited Seabrook Greyhound Park it wasn't a very appealing place. See https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/off-topic/general/8928-casino-chip-of-the-day/805/#post767381. It has been renovated and rebranded "The Brook." There is a sportsbook run by DraftKings inside, which is where I imagine the money came from for the renovation. There are also nice lounge areas and lots of televisions. The whole place is pretty nice now. There are also devices that I am told are not slot machines though that is what they look like. I didn't recognize the games or the vendor. I think they are some electronic way to quickly buy virtual lottery tickets or something.

The poker room is in the same part of the building as my last visit, but is a little nicer now. And the chips are new. There is a nod to the old facility in the name of the bar that's in the poker room, also featured on the $1 chip.

If you look at these images closely you'll see slices due to my inability to use the scanner properly. I just noticed while editing the scanned images, please accept this apology. I scanned these a few weeks ago and do not have the chips/scanner with my as I submit these CCoTD contributions.

The new name and chip are a huge upgrade. That Seabrook chip is in very rough shape.

I'm confused about why the chip is so bad. The room hasn't been open that long, and I usually search through a bunch of chips to find the best when I'm playing. I don't remember why I failed so badly collecting this $1 chip.

I previously posted chips from Granite State Poker in Plaistow, a room which I once doubted ever existed. See https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/off-topic/general/8928-casino-chip-of-the-day/808/#post768146. Those chips are still in circulation in Keene, more about that in another post.

Anyway, I originally found the GSP chips at Manch Vegas in Manchester, New Hampshire. I revisited that location recently, and it has been renovated and rebranded "filotimo." Like "The Brook", there are "it's not a slot machine" slot machines and a DraftKings sports book along with updated decor. It's still in the same old industrial building with an awkward floor plan. The naming of these places is confusing. There is another room in Dover with an attached filotimo restaurant and lots of filotimo signage, but the casino is named something else. Here the casino is formally filotimo but I don't think there is much signage to match (memory fading.) Maybe they are all owned by the same outfit.

I played, I collected, I moved on. The chips (front and back):

Unlike the filotimo casino posted yesterday, Dover Poker Room and Casino has filotimo signage all over. It also has a sports book, bowling alley, restaurant, bar, and those not-a-slot machines. This place was pretty full when I stopped in, possibly because it is further south than some of the other places (more population and closer to Massachusetts.) There is some overlap in the player pool with the Brook. They had a poker tournament, a few 1/2 NL poker games (with a waiting list) and a 5/10 game. I played 1/2 and was next to a 5/10 table where everyone knew each other and seemed like they were having a lot of fun. The 5/10 table talk was a bit racy because of (not in spite of) an energetic and talkative woman at the table.

This is what came up on google when I looked up Filotimo. It’s interesting that Greeks can’t agree on a translation.

Interesting. I did that google and apparently there is a book written about filotimo. Unfortunately it is in German, so translation challenges all around.

More crossover between casinos today. If you visit the Keene Poker Room and Casino website at https://www.keenecasino.com/ you will find this image that looks very similar to the Dover Poker Room & Casino chip image:

But the actual chips in Keene look nothing like that. There are two varieties of chips in play in Keene. The first are those well traveled and now also very worn plastic chips from Plaistow New Hampshire's Granite State Poker, previously chronicled and pictured here: https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/off-topic/general/8928-casino-chip-of-the-day/808/#post768146 but collected at Manch Vegas, which is now using filotimo chips. The giving folotimo spirit lives in New Hampshire.

The other chips in Keene agree with what the mogh says they have, pictured below. According to mogh, this casino previously operated out of a Best Western. I visited that older location long ago, and wrote about it here: https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/off-topic/general/8928-casino-chip-of-the-day/161/#post766947

Despite the name, there was no poker running when I visited. They had one roulette and one blackjack (or so I thought) running with one or two people at each table. I played some blackjack but there were some confusing rules. I thought this must be a very exploitable game until I realized I was playing Spanish 21. Despite my folly I made a couple bucks, marveled at the path the chips I was using had taken, and got out of there.

Just short a walk from Keene Casino you can find Wonder Casino. This was a slightly nicer place with a casino pit offering a variety of games and a small poker room. The only poker game offered when I stopped in was 1/2 PLO8, a high/low split variant of omaha which is usually played (as I understand, PG would know better) with fixed sized bets (limit) but here was offered with bets allowed as large as the current pot (pot limit.) This table was full, and I get the sense you should get to the room early to get a seat.

I watched one hand of PLO8 that was already in progress. The turn (fourth community card out of five) had just been dealt and there were at least four people in the pot. First player bets about $80, the next raises the max to a few hundred. The following player gives a speech and goes all-in for a little over a thousand. Last surviving player calls for less. Original better folds, and the initial raiser calls the all-ins (has both all-ins covered.) There was loads of table talk during the hand which is not suppossed to be allowed when there are multiple people playing but there was only token resistance to this breach. The biggest talker was the guy who went all in first for over a thousand bucks. Eventually a river is dealt and people are taking way too long to table their hands as table talk continues. The guy who had the all-ins covered shows with a claim for high. The big better/talker thinks he has a low to split the pot, but he had zilch. I don't think he was angling, he really didn't know that he didn't have a hand. The second all-in for less guy wins part of the pot with a high, and the big stack takes the bulk of it and has a nice big pile of chips afterwards. Made me want to learn PLO8 and take the drive to Keene more often.

After enjoying the show I played a few hands of blackjack to get the following chips:

I've had the pleasure of waking up with one of your posts waiting for me every morning. My laziness this fine day leaves an opening for you to seize the mantel and entertain once again. I will wait patiently and enjoy news of your travels if tomorrow finds another fine PG post. Otherwise, I will proceed in spite of my delinquent nature and stumble along as best I can while seeking the pardon of all who rely on reliable delivery of their chip of the day.

Not much to say about this place. The design on these chips are similar to the Dover Poker Room chips though they are ceramic instead. I don't know if the rooms are related. All the $1 chips were really beat up. Typical New Hampshire casino with a few table games and a couple 1/2 NL hold 'em poker tables. The crowd was older and the action was typically tight. This place was inside a little mall-like place, though I think the only other business was a restaurant. Played for a couple hours before taking a short ride to see my son who was staying nearby.

I stopped by Concord Casino en-route to Keene and Lebanon. Got there at 3PM, but they didn't open until 4 so I took a walk around downtown Concord, New Hampshire's state capitol. There is a small complex of important-looking buildings including the capitol building and a few state offices. Once of those was the state library, so I went in and looked around. It is just like a typical local library you might find in any city, though the building might be a little more grand. They also had a little museum inside (one room) with, if I recall, pictures, maps and some documents.

After making my way back to the casino I walked through the bar on the street level to a staircase down to the basement where the casino could be found. The only people there were the manager and a dealer. I thought the manager might know how to buy chips from closed casinos so I struck up a conversation about Cheers, which I wrote about here: https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/off-topic/general/8928-casino-chip-of-the-day/805/#post767225. The dealer knew people who worked at Cheers and shared his thoughts on why it didn't succeed. He let me know that the owner still thinks Cheers will eventually reopen, so I wouldn't be able to buy the chips just yet. Neither of them had advice on how I might eventually buy the chips if they closed for good. Somebody must know since old chips move around this state so often.

I wasn't going to make the dealer shuffle up to play just a couple hands and collect the chips, so I just bought them from the manager and went on my way.

Two things -
I’ve never been a high end poker player even when I played for a living lol.

I posted chips from The Lodge at Belmont here: https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/off-topic/general/8928-casino-chip-of-the-day/806/#post767756

At the time I thought I was at Lakes Casino, but wasn't certain. In any case, the chips were from this Lodge place so that was the official post. I finally made it back during daylight and my memory is good enough to know that this is the same place and it is actually Lakes Region Casino. And now they have chips to match.

There weren't many people there when I stopped by. I was encouraged to sit and open a blackjack game and the dealer seemed happy to shuffle up even though I was only there to collect and wouldn't stay long. I learned that the Binions are buying the place and will rebrand it soon, so I got the chips just in time before they get retired. Nonetheless, the dealer wouldn't sell me the 25 cent chips because they don't have many. I bet an odd amount and was lucky enough to get a few blackjacks and acquire the small chips that way. I felt a little guilty not cashing them in after the dealer made a big deal about not being able to part with them, but the collection demands difficult choices some times.

So, the mystery of Lakes Casino is has been resolved. Here is the proof:

That's all the new chips I have. Happy to hand the thread back to PG unless someone else wants to fight for it.

Tiverton and Twin River in Rhode Island are now Bally's. I stopped by a little while ago and they still had the old chips, but I'll give it another try and may have a couple more unless someone beats me to it.

I may finish New Hampshire soon. There is one more poker room further north in New Hampshire that I hope to visit this summer. By then Lakes may be Binions so I'll stop there also.

When I called the Speakeasy casino near the border with Maine on my last trip nobody answered so I figured no dice. But someone saw the caller ID on the hangup and called me back to let me know they intend to reopen in a few months. That's dedication to (or desperation for) the customer! If those plans bear fruit (sorry no slot machines, they'll bear electronic scratchers) I'll have 3 more from New Hampshire to post.

Just realized that after that last New Hampshire chip and Bally's (if available) I may have a complete New England set of chips. I better get up there.

Casino: Poker House

Today’s chip of the day is from Poker House in Dallas, Texas. Poker House opened in July of last year or about 3 months after I visited Dallas. I recently took a 8 day trip through Texas and filled in some blanks with a bunch of new poker rooms in Dallas, Killeen, Austin, Houston and College Station. This was the first poker room I stopped at on this trip and I when I arrived at midnight or so there were two 1/2 NL and a $15 OTB Omaha game running. As I’m not a fan of Omaha I sat in the 1/2 and within the hour the two 1/2 tables combined to one. The game was juicy and the players were all having fun. Surprisingly the game went into the wee hours (4 am when I left) on a Monday night. I left up a few hundred bucks and carefully (couldn’t see straight anymore lol) made my way to my hotel to grab some needed sleep.

The chip is white with a blue and grey pattern around the centre inlay. The centre inlay is white with the club name in red/black with the 4 suits and the denom in blue.

City: Watauga
Casino: Watauga

Today’s chip of the day is from Watauga Social Lounge in Watauga, Texas. Watauga is north of Fort Worth or west of Dallas and is considered a suburb of Fort Worth with a population of 24,000. The reason I heard about this new poker room that opened in January of this year is because they had an incident that went viral on Twitter a few months ago. A poker player was playing one of their tournaments and found out that they were raking the add-ons even when they said that they weren’t (I’m not sure the legality of raking on tournaments in Texas). He then proceeded to make snide comments about them being rats without being abusive and was soon after ejected from not only the poker club but the tournament when they were on the final table and one away from the money. He proceeded to pull out his phone and record the whole incident. They refunded his buy in and his membership but he was obviously on the verge of $500+ from the tournament he was being booted from. The whole thing made the club look very bad and made the player look like a guy looking for a sparring match, not a good look for either side.

Fast forward to the day I go to the club. I sign up for the list and a daily membership from a nice and cute young lady. No game had started so while I waited her and I chatted for about 45 minutes about travel and a few other shared interests. I mentioned I was going to Austin in a few days and she said she was as well. About 30 minutes later she brought up again that we would both be in Austin at the same time so I asked if she wanted to go for drinks there to which she said yes and texted me her number (she already had mine from the membership). Shortly after the game started and I played for two hours before calling it a night as I was headed to Killeen in the morning.

We texted for about 3 hours that night and it was a really good conversation that led to the weirdest almost date of my life! I mentioned to her from the start that I was going to Austin to have dinner with a friend and that we would meet up after that to which she said that would work perfectly. Two days later around noon I texted her that I was in Austin and that I’d check in after dinner. She responded that she was out for drinks with friends and that sounded good (it was St Paddy’s day). Around 7:30 I texted her and the weirdness started. I asked where she was and she told me downtown so I asked where and I’ll come meet her as she had been drinking already and couldn’t drive. She asked me where I was and said she’d need to grab an Uber to which I reminded her that I was going to come to her. She seemed a bit drunk but I didn’t want to be rude and cancel so I asked for her location and told her I’d be 15 minutes. During that 15 minutes my friends in a group chat kept saying abort abort to which I didn’t listen. I got downtown and texted I’m here where exactly should I grab you? She called me and here’s the best part… she asked who this was!!! I said my name and said we met in Dallas and she responded with “oh ya I know who you are” at this point I was pretty sure she was trashed and I was regretting my choices. Luckily she said I seemed ready to go out but she was in her hotel room and not ready yet so I should go without her and we would hang out another night… I was laughing and so confused but I think I dodged a bullet with that mess. I headed to a poker room that turned out to be an amazing game.

The chip is white with 3 yellow/blue edge inserts. The centre inlay is red with a black border. The club name is in white on the black and the denom and logo (a spade) are in white on the red.

Casino: Texas Ave Social

Today’s chip of the day is from Texas Ave Social Club in College Station, Texas. Texas Ave opened in May of 2021. The name of the club isn’t overly original as the club is on Texas avenue south, someone needs to be a little more creative. Texas Ave is a small 3 table club that doesn’t seem to get a ton of traffic as I walked in at 9 pm on a Saturday and no game was running. I waited around for about 30 minutes while they called people who had come by or called earlier for a game. We started 6 handed with the owner playing until the table filled up or he lost too much money, he definitely reached the money part first. He bought in 6 times for $200 and dusted off each buy in quite quickly playing like a maniac. As the club was running a $40 door fee and time charge special that night even with 10-12 players through the night he lost quite a bit of money due to his gambling. They provided snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic) plus Chinese food for dinner included in the door fee. Again, I don’t think this club is making any money. I played for 3 hours and cashed out a few hundred profit.

The chip is white with 6 blue edge inserts and 6 outlines of Texas around the edge of the chip. The centre inlay is black with a white border that houses the club name in blue and red. There is a blue, red and white spade taking up most of the black inlay with the denom under it in white.

I suspect that most readers hear are not particularly aware of the continuing problems I have had in maintaining the thread index in the first three posts of this thread. The root cause of the problem is that the forum has a limit on the number of characters that can be included in a single post. As more chips are posted here, the index gets longer, and for some time I have been shuffling tables of links from one part of the index to another in an effort to keep all three parts within the allowed limits on length.

Now the leaders of our favorite forum have created a new avenue for me to maintain an index in a separate, dedicated thread. It will take a while for me to figure all of this out, but I hope to have that new index up and running with a similar/related name within a couple of days. I'll let you know when that happens.

New thread index looks great. Is the plan to delete the one in this thread and direct everyone there since you can’t continue to update this one?

That's the plan. The new index is not (yet) working quite as smoothly as I would like, but I think it will be OK. At least for now, it should be easy to find it in the recent threads list; it is just named "Casino Chip of the Day Index." I expect to edit at least one of the dozen posts there each time there is a new chip posted, but I do not expect additional posts there. As a result, it may not ever come back to Page 1 of the recent threads list.

I do plan to delete the now-obsolete index in the first three posts of this discussion thread, but I have some concerns as to whether that might damage some of the links in the index; e.g., if much shorter first three posts changes the breaks between pages of this thread, I don't know the impact on links to later posts in the thread. I will add a link to the new index in Post #1 of this thread, but I haven't gotten that done yet. (Edit: That's done now.)

State: Texas
City: Killeen
Casino: Rolled Jacks

Today’s chip of the day is from Rolled Jacks Poker Club in Killeen, Texas. I was in Killeen for one night and stopped in at this club but sadly they weren’t able to get a game going so I played at a different club instead. A few days later on the weekend (always more likely the to get a game going on Friday or Saturday) I drove the 44 minutes from Austin where I was staying to visit that club and one other that was open but couldn’t get a game going. We played I think 5 handed with the owner and whichever dealer wasn’t dealing also playing. So basically 3 customers… and they wonder why these clubs close so often. Both dealer lost hundreds of dollars and didn’t make that much dealing the game which makes for a pointless work day. Oh and I forgot to mention one of the customers was one of the dealers husband. A few more people showed up as the next couple of hours went by. I made $300 in the game and then headed back to Austin.

The name of the club is an interesting one. The term rolled jacks to me is a term I know from the movie Rounders. When playing seven card stud the first card to each player is dealt face up and the next two face down to start the game. Rolled trips is when you have 3 of a kind with your face up card and your two down. So in this instance rolled jacks would be 3 of a kind jacks in the first 3 cards received in seven card stud. All that being said I actually don’t think the name has anything to do with this term as it’s not commonly used nowadays but I thought this was something interesting.

The chip is a cheap generic model with a sticker placed onto one side of the chip’s inlay. The chip is white with 4 sets of red/yellow/black edge inserts. The centre inlay is as I said a blue sticker with the club name in black and “poker club” in white on the blue. There is a club at the bottom of the inlay and a Jack above the name. The backside of the chip has the generic laurel wreath with a dice in the middle of the wreath. Poker is in black at the top of the inlay.

Casino: K Rock

Today’s chip of the day is from K Rock Poker Club in Killeen, Texas. I mentioned in my last post that I went to another club when Rolled Jacks couldn’t get a game going that night and this was that club. I didn’t get an exact date but this club recently opened in the last 9 months or so with 4 tables. One of the owners of K Rock was involved in the now closed All In Poker club that I played at in Killeen last year. I didn’t realize it until playing at Rolled Jacks two days later but the owner from Rolled Jacks was playing at K Rock when I was there. The game was juicy as there was a very loud guy splashing chips around and he kept loudly saying “hi my name is New York, nice to meet you!” and when someone tried to respond to his trash talking he would just repeat that line over and over again loudly, sounds ridiculous and it was but still had everyone laughing. The whole table was moving chips around the table so fast that you’d think that last person to lose all their chips would be shot on the spot. Eventually sadly Mr. New York lost all his money and left to get money but never came back. The rest of us played until we were down to 3 handed and the game broke. I ended up making about 400 after being down 300 or so. Interesting an older gentlemen mentioned that he remembered playing with me the year before at All In. I asked him how he remembers me and he just said you like to chat and you are white, you stand out. I just laughed and said that’s fair. Still amazing that he instantly knew who I was without me even having said I had been to Killeen before.

The chip is light blue with a dark swirl around the outside of the chip. The centre inlay white with a design that I can’t for the life of me make out. The club name is very cool with a large purple K with an extended arm and the word rock inside of the K. The denom is sort of a teal colour.

Background image looks like a stylized face card - AFAICT, jack or king as queens don't have beards, at least usually.

Cropped and twiddled to enhance the faint background detail. It is reminiscent of the common face card designs. I think I see a lion.
May the cards fall in your favor.

State: Texas
City: Round Rock
Casino: 52 Social ♣️

I think I missed a day, I got the K Rock chip posted during my 3 day flu but I just didn’t have the energy to post yesterday. Feeing a bit better today so here’s a new chip.

Today’s chip of the day is from 52 Social ♣️ in Round Rock, Texas. Round rock is a suburb of Austin Texas just north of the city. If you remember my posts of Texas card rooms that I visited last year I posted both 52 Social and 52 Social South from Houston. One was sold and the other just closed from what I can tell. One of the owners (who the consensus from other rooms I visited is that he is a dick) opened up 52 Social ♣️ in January of this year. When I showed up to the club around noon they had no game going but 2 dealers and the aforementioned “dick” owner were ready to play so about 15 minutes later the game started up. Players slowly trickled in until the game was full. When I arrived I was told there was no membership fee, no time fee until 4 and they were still not taking a rake. I assume this is because they are a new club trying to bring people in. They run live streamed games there and had one running that night. It felt a little sad playing in a room with about 30 poker tables in it. The owner is a tiny old Korean man in a wheel chair and while I wouldn’t say he is a dick, I also wouldn’t say he was friendly. He was not only not participating in the fun conversation I was having with the other players but would chime in with snide remarks and opinions randomly. Basically a get off my lawn kind of guy. I played for a few hours winning about $40 before I headed to my hotel to check in and then figure out which club to go to next.

The chip sadly looks old even though it’s only a few months old. The chip is blue with 4 white edge inserts and white centre inlay. The club name and denom are both blue. The picture isn’t blurry sadly that’s just a faded 3 month old chip.

Sorry to hear you have been ill. So now you're feeling better and took the opportunity to create a little (unintentional?) anguish for me in maintaining the thread index. First, you stick the ♣️ in the name of the place (just as it says on the chip but unlike I have labeled anything in the index before) and then you put the "52" in the name of the place, unlike either of the previous establishments with similar-sounding names and unlike what they printed on the chip. Even now, it is too early in the morning for my head to deal with such issues. For the moment, I indexed it just as you put it in your header. And thanks for the new chip posting.

;-)

The reason I put it like that is because that’s how they list it in the club, on google and on their website.

I just checked how you listed it and that looks good to me if it works for you.

Mostly I was joshing, PG. I do that sort of thing when I don't have something useful to contribute. BTW, focusing on that index edit, I found an error that I corrected. Right beside that 52 Social ♣️ entry is the link for your post about the Abby J Card House in San Antonio. However, until just a few minutes ago, that link did not send viewers to your chip post but instead to the reply that your post generated (two posts below) that included a quote of your post. Now the index really points to your original post.

Casino: Red Star

Today’s chip of the day is from Red Star Social in Austin, Texas. I visited this club last year when it was Palms Social. I stopped in and played about a hour as a random 5/10 game was running and then it broke shortly after as they were all only planning on playing for a few hours. The game was set up to run by the players and apparently they do it often around the city at different clubs. I made 700 in a hour before heading to dinner with a local friend. The club has 5 tables and looks exactly the same as it did last year. A old larger man at the other game had to be told to put his shirt back and didn’t understand why he had to wear a shirt… Oy. The host lady felt bad that they were out of diet Dr Pepper so she surprised me by going to the store next door and buying me one, I couldn’t believe she would go out of her way like that. I immediately put away the water I took instead and drank the drink she grabbed for me.

The chip is blue with 3 grey edge inserts. There are 8 sets of what looks like playing cards engraved into the edge of the chip. The centre inlay is black with the club name in red/white and the denom in white twice.

The Mrs. and I went to Bay 101 for some Mothers Day poker, and there were about 5 people on the list ahead of us, so we went for a quick run to the nearby Costco. We got back after 45 minutes, and were already off the list. The poker host (Russ, I believe) said he walked the floor looking for us. I was very touched — I'd never heard of someone doing that! Usually, when you're called and not around, you're not given a second thought. (We didn't have to wait too long afterward to play.)

Ya that’s pretty standard for them to call you a couple times and then move on, very nice of him.

I know this thread doesn’t get much in the way of responses but it seems like we have about 15-20 lurkers based on the one off posts we get every so often. Pretty cool.

Consider these facts: Over its life to date, this thread has slightly fewer than 8,700 posts and more than 2,000,000 views. Seem as though each post gets read quite a few times, and this has been continuing for more than a decade.

I played regularly at a couple illegal rooms that had great service, both run by the same guy. The owner's mother would bring over dinner. There was a bar next door and they would ask if anyone wanted anything and run over to buy our drinks.

One night it was a regulars birthday and his girlfriend brought a cake that was in the other room. She sliced the cake and yelled into the poker room, "who wants the cake?". I called back, "I'll have some." After some laughter she asked me, "you want cake?". I do, says I, to more laughter.

She had the cake decorated with a graphic picture of the male anatomy. I had misheard.
