Today, I had an extraordinarily good crew, from the dealers to the pit boss. That induced me to stray from the usual haunts that have traditionally brandished extensive comps. Which counts more in choosing where to play?

Good casino personal you can talk into writing you comps. A person being friendly is something that you can not buy.

In the long run, I will always gravitate towards casinos that provide a better gambling experience. This encompasses the facility itself, the rules/odds/payouts, the cientele and the dealers and other staff. I end up playing enough at my favorite places that I get comps there anyway.

Personnel all the way, and that goes for nearly every venue. I've spent a total of ~$3,000 extra dollars on motorsports simply because those people do good business. I feel appreciated, I get their time when I have a question, they'll take a look at something off the clock... it makes me feel better having them then it does "saving" $3,000.

This was one of my points in my "M" blog. Every single person there made me feel welcome, feel special, feel like I mattered (I was betting reds with no player history). The dealers were engaging, funny, the housekeeping was polite, the Front Desk was spot on, and it felt like they meant it, not that oversaturated, too-nice, creepy feel. As a result, they will most definately see my business again if I'm ever to go back.

Clearly it is good staff. However, even with great people, there are some places where the smoke in the air just can't be overcome by friendly, helpful, fast service. So maybe in the long run, it is a combination.

People. No question about it.

If I'm not getting comps, I can blame it on some nameless bean-counter in a back room somewhere.

Winning or losing, if I'm not having fun or not treated like I mattered, it's because of the person I'm dealing with.

That is what matters. A comped suite may be real nice but it will never overcome bad dealers. Dealers who keep track of your betting pattern and ask if you want odds, etc. and really pay attention to you make it a nice experience. A comp'd room is just a roof over your head, nothing else.

Why do we have to choose? I find there are places that offer both in Vegas. However they are the places with the worst BJ rules at the majority of tables.
