Self-Service Soft Drinks

Basically, you can't just walk onto the casino floor without going through a turnstile or being asked for an ID. Even if you don't show it, there is a nice security guard who will wish you well.. meaning you can't bring a 5-gallong jug with you to the casino. Most don't even allow outside containers or drinks in period.

I have to agree with an above poster though; the cost of maintenance was probably getting high and my guess is that some cocktail waitresses pulled unions into it... the combination of the two caused them to disappear.

Are you talking about Vegas or elsewhere?

In Vegas, a youngster most definately CAN walk thru the casino without being stopped. In most cases, you HAVE to walk along an aisle, inches from machines and tables, to get from the strip entrance to the hotel elevator, etc.

Also, because of the relaxed open container laws, you can bring outside drinks into casinos.

On the subject of why self serve isn't seen in Vegas, I'll agree it's a mixture of all things discussed.

As I mentioned earlier, Foxwoods has them, but only in the Bingo room. And you need your bingo admission ticket to get in the room. That keeps the youngsters and riff-raff away from the soda stations. (Yes, I realize that bingo attracts its own variety of riff-raff, but that's another story.)

I've seen signs at Excalibur saying kids can go through the casino acompannied by an adult, but only when making their way elsewhere. As yous ay, though, in many hotels you have to walk past slot machines. In some, like the Rio, you ahve to walk through the casino to get to some room towers. So if you stop with your child at the soda machine, no one is likely to even notice.

No I was saying in the Midwest you won't see kids on the casino floor. I was in Vegas this past weekend and of course you see kids all over.

On a totally different topic, but related idea to the kids; I went and did a quick swipe of Circus Circus while seeing 3:2 BJ Single deck at the Riviera. There were signs all over the place saying where kids could and couldn't be. The thing that cracked me up was I saw the sign FIRST in Spanish, then English...

Therefore you do not have any random traffic through the casino to pick up free drinks, every one there is there to be in the casino...no one is going in specifcally for the free pop.

Bingo! The one that is closest to any population that could walk in off the street just passing by is Lumiere Place on Laclede's Landing, and it's still still a couple hundred yards from the sidewalk through the building to the turnstiles. Far different then Casino Royale or Harrah's where you could be sitting at a slot machine 25 feet from the sidewalk.
