Should you color up at a table even though that session was a loss??? For example I walk up to a table, get $500 in chips then play. After playing, I'm down to my loss limit of $250. Now do I just take my chips to the cage or do I ask the dealer to color up?? I have been just going to the cage, but am I hurting my rating since the boxman/pit boss doesnt know what I left the table with?? I read some where that casino's take your losses as well as time played for consideration for comps.

You should color up so that the table does not have to refill the tray as often.

If you color up, then the pit will know for sure how much you left with and be able to accurately record your loss. If you don't color up, the pit will sometimes ask the dealer how much you had when you left and they will have to estimate. The dealer could easily guess $300 as well as $200. The benefit of the better guess could be offset by a cranky pit because you didn't color up and now they may have to do a tray fill before the end of their shift.

Always color up unless the dealer specifically says it is okay to walk with the chips. It helps them keep a better count.

If your stop loss is $250, why buy in for $500? why not just buy in for $250, then colouring up is never an issue.

Some people like to have a larger buy-in recorded, and to make larger initial bets for better comp rating. Both actions are often recommended in the comps tips literature.

Me, I suually buy-in what I'm willing to lose. But sometimes I decide to cut my losses early, or get tired of the game. then I color up and leave. I usually don't bother coloring up if I have less than $50 left, though.

I think it depends on what the $250 is made of. If it is more than a handful of reds, then coloring up makes sense. However, if it is already five greens, or one handful of color, then I would simply tip the boys and walk. Coloring up slows the game down for those who remain.
