Too funny! Supposedly one of the best places to count cards ever.

I believe its the Westin Causerina now.
The article's author was obviously counting but it seems MichiganGuy was counting better since he made his bet adjustments sooner, yet kept losing. MichiganGal was appearing to be some cheap chippie on the make pawing him and shoveling some of her chips into her handbag as if she were a drunken leech that attached herself to him in some bar.
My only question is if MichiganGuy was such a good counter and his wife was such a good (ie bad) distraction, how is it that they only cleaned up after this magical "the cards turned"?

My understanding is that it is not a casino, it is a hotel that has an afterthought.
Think how popular and oft-mentioned the places that offer three dollar craps are. Now think how many times you have ever heard anyone pipe up about the Westin Causerina's three and five dollar tables?

Actually, it's the "Casuarina". That's the name of a tree native to Australia, Asia, and the south Pacific. I have no idea why the hotel/casino has that name. (Sounds as if this could be an opening for our enlightenment by Mr. Martin.)

Sounds like a diagnosis to me. "The tests came back and you have Casuarina, here's a prescription for a cream that will clear that right up. Now stay out of the sun and lose some weight."Quote: DocActually, it's the "Casuarina". That's the name of a tree native to Australia, Asia, and the south Pacific. Wikipedia just reminded me that the Maxim was the locale where Tupac Shakur was (allegedly) fatally wounded.
I've played at the Casuarina a couple times, and I really enjoyed the friendly dealers and relative absence of smoke.

Because of the lack of heat the Maxim had the best single deck game ever dealt, many times down to the last card. You could literally spread from $5-$500 without worrying. I played there during most of the 1980s before being banned. I've had many backoffs but very few bannings and this is the one I remember the most. The game was going downhill by then and I had made my money so I really didn't care.
Coincidentally I stopped at the Westin yesterday morning as I was staying at MGM and it was on my jogging route up Koval Lane. It was pretty dead and they only have the typical shoe games now.
Some airlines put up their pilots and flight attendants at the Westin.
