I have been kind of bummed about the Sahara. I haven't enjoyed it much recently, but it used to be my favorite casino.
I don't think an old 50s casino on the strip has closed in my adult life without plans to replace it . (Little did we know that Echelon may be a pipe dream).

If my wife wasn't due next month, we would be booking a trip to spend the last night in the Sahara, and staying there until they kicked us out.

Has anyone ever been in a casino when they closed? Does security round everybody up and escort them out? What's the vibe like, was it a party or depressing?

If you go on youtube they have some tape of one closing, I forget which one but maybe the Frontier or Stardust?

From what it looked like, they had a PA announcement that it was closed. I would guess that someone has already been given the honor of playing last hand/shooter. IIRC Stardust closed table games on the graveyard shift and slots at noon the following day.

Yeah, not many casinos here are 24hours, although more are now. I remember like years ago, none were 24hours, either because of the law, or demand.

It was always very sombre when they started to close the tables and tell people to drink up.

You've got time to book a trip for a farewell.
I would expect many employees will have moved on already before that final roll/final hand/final shot of booze.
The regulars may drop by for a party but the regulars in that place probably hold their parties at the unemployment office or something.
They were not making much with those one dollar shot glasses or one dollar rooms. Everyone knew that.

No, not closing, but I was at one in Canada when the cocktailer came around saying last call. That freaked me out enough right there!
