OK, so I was originally booked for the first weekend of April (at Paris), but after going to the OBGYN doctor yesterday with my wife (pregnant with twins), it was determined that I should probably move my vegas trip up some if I want a happy wife! So now, I'm booked for Feb 25-28 at Bally's for only $50 total! I wanted to stay at Paris, but there is a concert going on that weekend and the prices were crazy! Anyway, has anyone stayed at Bally's before? Is it nice at all? The room picture looks crappy, but maybe we can as for an upgrade when me and my buddy get there.....

Bally's Review

It certainly is a convenient spot on the strip to be staying. Check out the Cosmopolitan and Bellagio across the street ...

Nothing wrong with Bally's. The rooms are nice, if dated, and you can't beat the location if you want to see the Strip.

The only negative is that not only is the food mediocre at best, but there is no place nearby to get a bite to eat that isn't overpriced. Particularly, avoid the execrable buffet. The coffee shop serves food that is worth about 60% of what they charge for it. The steakhouse is OK, but there are better ones nearby. The Sterling brunch is actually worth its insane price, however.

As far as gambling goes, you're in a Harrah's property, so the watchword is...DON'T.

All in all, worth the stay if you can get your rooms at a good price.

You might check out the Snack Bar at Bellagio, next to The Bank nightclub. It's a bit over priced, but the food quality is great and it's a welcome relief from the buffet and coffee shop scene. Wiith the new M-Life Express Comps I believe you will be able to charge the meal to your M-Life card, no matter where you have earned your points within the MGM properties. I'm going to check this out when I'm next in Vegas.

Congrat's I am a licensed Paternal Doula. It is a rather new field. Most know about the maternal doula but as a paternal doula we are here as support for the fathers who are often forgotten in the birthing process. Child birth is beautiful but highly overrated. Don't get me wrong it is magical but it really doesn't compare to a perfect game or when a pony going off at 40/1 shreds the comp in the mud.

But back to a paternal doula we are there to support the father. Often a first labor can go on for hours. Everyone is rightfully taking care of the mom to be but my job is to care for the father to be. You have great doctors, nurses and a top notch hospital. So why do you need to be there? In my city the main hospital is next door to a great bar. Not fancy Lot's of 81's but the hospital pager works from there. I also give the pep talk about it not being over and if needed I also tell them how they can get out. The bad part is if they can afford a paternal doula they often have too much in assets to get away.

I often recommend Bally's to friends who are visiting Vegas on a moderate budget. It is a perfectly acceptable place to lay your head at night, and the location in the middle of the strip is hard to beat. Its not someplace you're going to want to spend a lot of time. There really isn't anything wrong with it, its just kind of "blah" compared to neighboring properties. But its connected to Paris, and its a very easy walk to Bellagio, Caesar's, Planet Hollywood and the Miracle Mile Shops, Cosmopolitan and City Center. And its centrally located for moderately convenient access to everything else on the strip.

I frequently eat at the Burger Brasserie in the little mall between Bally's and Paris. And on my last trip, I saw a phenomenal free show at the dueling pianos bar in the same area.

Bally's is odd in that although it's "on strip", it's actually set back about 125 yards from the strip. However, there is a moving sidewalk surrounded by foliage for most of that distance.

If you go out the door near the convention center, it's a short walk (maybe 500 yards) to Ellis Island. Definately worth seeing and eating. Or walk about 3/4 mile to Terribles.

Ballys is cheap and you're on the middle of the strip. Use the $20 trick to get yourself upgraded. You're connected to the Paris. You're a very short walk from Bills, Caesars, and Bellagio. Planet Hollywood is just on the other side of the Paris. I say that if you're on a budget and want to see the strip, Ballys is an excellent choice. Their restaurants are not bad, and you've got the restaurants in the Paris if you want to go upscale. The cafe in the Paris and the Creperie are not bad choices for breakfast.

Bally's room's are not bad at all. They have been upgraded to flat panels and some come with a coffee maker. As far as food goes it is true that the buffet has been closed for years other than the sterling brunch. However they have added a few new restaurants recently. The mexican joint in the back of the main floor is very good and very reasonable. Plus you can listen to live music at night right outside the dining area. I don't think the cafe is overpriced nor do I think the food is bad. They have cut hours though so it's only breakfast and lunch. It is also a very short walk to numerous other reasonably priced dining options. The victorian room at Bill's is not bad at all and quite reasonable. I would recommend Bally's to anyone who wants to save money on a room.
