As I post this, the 8-12-45 eclipse is 20 years minus three days away. It's never too early to get excited. I'll be 80 years old for the big event.

Here is the eclipse path.

The maximum duration is 6:06, which is very long for a total eclipse. The fourth longest in the 21st century. The longest duration will be in Florida.

Major cities in the totality path: Reno, Salt Lake City, Colorado Springs, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Jackson, Montgomery, Tallahassee, Tampa, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Nassau, Santo Domingo, Porlamar, Port of Spain, Georgetown, Paramaribo, Belém, São Luís, Joāo Pessoa and Recife.

Let this page be a source for discussing the eclipse.

More information: Solar eclipse of August 12, 2045 (Wikipedia)

The question for the poll is which is your favorite song that gets a lot of air play during a total eclipse, in particular ones that fall on a Monday.

I wish you the best but what percent chance do you give yourself for living to 80? I believe you and I are about the same age but my chances are probably less than 5%. I just scheduled surgery numbers 26&27 this week. My father lived to 88 but my genes seem to come from the other side of the family where making it until 70 is less than 50/50.

A 60-year-old make has a 60% chance to make it to 80. Life expectancy is 21.77 years.

I hope surgeries 26 and 27 are successful and we enjoy the eclipse together in northern Nevada.

"Waiting For The Sun." You won't have to wait that long. Just a few minutes.

There's a formula I've developed for getting there, from personal and historical observations-

Avoid: substance abuse and addiction (that means you too smokers!), accidents, violence, bacterial infection (And especially the bacteria that come from physically or mentally unhealthy people. Shoes off in the house when you have been walking in Vegas!), depression, doctors.

Seek out: as much physical and mental activity as you can bear (which is usually more than you think), as much fruit and green leafy vegetables as you can masticate.

George Washington died at 65, but most of the better-known Founding Fathers lived to be what we would consider old age now, despite physicians being empirics rather than doctors and the absence of antibiotics, anaesthesia, x-rays, almost all laboratory diagnostics and even Lister and antisepsis would not be for 50 more years. The reason for the discrepancy between their lifespans and that of common men of their era appears to be that they were not exposed to the same conditions common men were, due to their wealth and status.

I appreciate your suggestion but eclipses don't interest me so it will be very unlikely that I would view it. The fact that you are physically fit leads me to believe you have a very good chance of surviving through the eclipse.

I just thought of another thing. By that age the cataracts in my eyes will make everyday seem like an eclipse.

As a gambling forum, I wonder whether we should have a dead pool?
So many better men, a few of them friends, are dead. And a thousand thousand slimy things live on, and so do I.

I would bet on myself but I wouldn't get a chance to enjoy my win.

You'd be on my draft board as a late mid-round pick.

Why wait 20 years for the next one,? Some of us may not live that long!

Next eclipse in about a year in Spain and Iceland and Greenland!

If that doesn't tickle your fancy, or want a more exotic locale, the next one after that in 2027, sweeping through the part of Arabian peninsula and North Africa. Magnificent opportunity to photograph the eclipse in front the pyramids of the sphinx!

Are you sure you want to do that with players who always look for unexpected ways to gain an advantage? Not me! That could turn into the Hunger Games at any moment.

As Arnold Snyder noted, "AP" also stands for "abnormal psychology."

In my case, the only winning move is not to play.
May the cards fall in your favor.
