Even though they got caught it still was pretty creative.
People get greedy and want to try the same thing again and again or brag about it to the wrong person.

As to why one of the perpetrators kept the costume... maybe he couldn't bear to part with it? ;-)

But not even quite the same because in that type of fraud maybe he gets a kickback from the fence who re-sells the car or its parts, via the hired thief.
In this scheme they ended up with damaged cars? Is there some part of the scheme not reported where they somehow end up with a net cash benefit? In cahoots with the repair shop too, for example?

The implication is that this scheme netted them more than simply selling or getting rid of the cars would have, but, exactly how, isn't clear.

I love the Clue/Cluedo references you made. 🤣🤭 I had a Clue App on my phone and I found one of the game Sessions sexist because in that certain game Session, ALL of the female Suspects motives were that the Murdered Victim was cheating on them. 😒I didn't like the stereotypical sexism. 😒 Another Session had a MUCH better motive for the female Suspects. The Female Suspects in the BETTER Session motives was that the Murdered Victim cheated them out of money(He stole money from a female Suspect and sold another Female Suspect's WINNING racing horse that they BOTH owned without her permission) 💡
