There is now question whether the number is accurate and I can't replicate the error to get a screen shot.

according to the about us section here on the site,it shows a number over 3/4 of a million post but not 3 million. I think you may be remembering wrong.Quote: Zcore13Quote: EvenBobQuote: Zcore13Not sure if this has been mentioned or anyone else has seen it. I was navigating to this site when I lost internet. I think (but am not positive) that those "2015" numbers are current.
I only have certain modest insights to the inner workings, but estimating 39k threads, 22k users, and 895k posts all seems to align with what I see and remember.
3 million posts over 15 years would mean around 550 posts per day, if my math is right.
I'm not saying that a 3 million number didn't appear somewhere... I just think there was possibly a different unit of measure associated.

The forum software here is proprietary, quirky and pretty dated, but I suppose the point at that time was that it was free? Was it free? It is not very easily upgradeable that's for sure. Or maybe the point of all this was the WizardOfOdds site, which is not a forum, with this forum as an afterthought, and wanting to use the same basic software for components of both.
Today, the WizardofOdds site maybe does what it is supposed to do, as well as it could, while this forum is technologically behind a 20 year old version of vbulletin software.
When this forum was started I believe you could get any forum software with lifetime upgrades and support for a few hundred dollars, which included a mobile app. Nowadays the support is free for only a limited time, but the lifetime upgrades are still included. Prices remain about the same, or even lower.
I do not believe that the decision to use custom software was based on cost savings.
I intensely dislike Tapatalk.
I'm not a particular fan of phpBB or vBulletin.
I would be unsurprised to learn others share my distastes.

Looks like you have made about 5.95 posts per day. I am at about 2.65. Considering that we have both had long periods inactive we must have really made a ton of posts back in the early days. As did a lot of other posts. It is interesting when you look back at how the site evolved. I remember I was able to post a ton in the early days because I had a job where they did not care and was not busy so I had lots of time. Glad to see the site has lasted as most forums have died out since then.
Until a newbie straggles in. Or a sock puppet.
Alexa is no longer available so there is no free way to check traffic these days, but I assume WOO gets the traffic here not this forum.
The fact that this forum there's no way to change color, font, insert youtube, instagram, etc. or do much else without HTML like commands, probably discourages newcomers too. But this forum is probably stuck with its format until the end of time, as trying to convert and upload it into a vbulletin or whatever would be difficult and might have to be done manually.

At any given time, there seem to be about 5 to 8 dozen people that are logged in. Of course that includes many of us who log in but never log out - sort of like the Hotel California.
At VCT it currently shows Members 1,851 Active Members 105. Over there we have the same dozen or so members posting, pretty much the same as here. If we really had twelve thousand active members here, we'd have about 1500 members actively posting.
It is also unheard of for a forum to have been around this long and have half of its total members be active. Some of the most popular forums on the 'net don't show the # of active members for this reason - because it is so far below the number of total members, and it doesn't look good for them.
So I'd say that we have about 150 active members at WOV.
There are many members that visit infrequently - when they receive a PM or when they go on an occasional gambling or Vegas trip.
(May 5, 2020) and it's by someone I follow on YouTube who speaks out about many subjects including right to repair for Apple products. He runs a forum as described in this video but as of the start of the pandemic he could not get technical support to do anything and he wound up stiffing paying customers of the forum because it wasn't working properly. This video brings up the concern for archiving the forum's many posts. I'd have to watch it again for more description and insight.
