Illinois is closing them for 2 weeks minimum.
Quote: TigerWuDid that coincide with the State of Emergency declaration? Markets may have shot back up because "now we have a plan" or something along those lines.
That's right. The spike back up on Friday was exactly because of the state of emergency announcement. It doesn't just say "now we have a plan", it says "We take the obvious necessary steps and have access to additional funds and some additional control over the situation now ".

Supposedly Pittsburgh closes tonight by order of mayor. All of the sudden I want to go tonight.
Quote: TigerWuOklahoma casinos have specifically said they will not be closing. They claim to be cleaning and sanitizing more than usual.
Unbelievably, the rhetoric seems to be getting worse. Last time, I was listening as a local radio host insisted that the black pro athletes and their Democratic owners were conspiring to make the trump administration look bad and how people should make a point of gathering in large groups to expose the truth.
He also went on to say that many people with low wages may try to catch the virus because the government will put them on the dole for life.
Just checked again, exact same dates: down to $200.
Meanwhile, shops around Yankee Stadium have hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Gerrit Cole jerseys they can't sell, most bought non returnable on sixty day terms that are due in late April.

Sounds like what the cops said when they raided Pee Wee Herman's house for child porn
(They confiscated pieces of art with cherubs similar to the images on the ceiling of the Sistine chapel)
Quote: rxwineSadly, this was all preventable. Probably, even if it had just occurred in a different place in China with different officials in charge, there might have been the right response.
We had the knowledge, methods, techniques to stop it early.
I suspect they knew back in December they had a problem....but either suppressed it or didn’t react quickly enough to contain it. Had they announced to the world “we have a problem”....we could have put the vast knowledge of worldwide experts together and quickly devise a containment plan.
I trust just about nothing coming from state run Chinese media.

I booked a round trip flight from Detroit to Vegas for the end of April for $98 on Delta. Never seen a deal like that.

I saw that too but have to wonder if the book stayed open would there be any sports to bet on? Does anyone have the latest lines for Call of Duty tournaments?

the local Walmart today. It
was picked bare, clean as a
whistle. All the bread, canned
goods, fresh meat, cheese,
potatoes and onions, pet food,
water, most of the frozen

salty snacks, totally bare. The
pics made me very sad.
I just went 10 days ago and don't
have to go till the 26th. I've been
stockpiling pet food for 2 weeks
and have 20 16# bags of cat food
and 300 cans of cat food. All delivered
from online. They were almost out
yesterday, of the cheap stuff anyway.
I can always eat anything but cats
have a very specific diet. They totally
rely on me, they came first.

Whatever approach is deemed best...my opinion is it should be consistent. If you are going to close a few casinos, close them all. A piece meal approach is ridiculous. This is why Apple is shuttering all stores for 2 weeks regardless of location. This is why other entities are shutting down in total...NBA, NHL, MLB, PGA, NASCAR.
You can't do this state by state unless you shut down state to state travel.
Vegas doesn't want to shut the casinos because they know the suffering will be worse than 2008. Well....we are not dealing with a state by state issue. It has become a nationwide issue that requires a consistent, cohesive approach. This is where the Feds need to step in. If MA, IL, PA are closing casinos....then the Feds should step in and say "shut them all down for 2 weeks". Here and there (state to state) closings are ridiculous when dealing with a national epidemic (worldwide).
If movies theaters are going to shut...shut them all. In fact I would argue to shutter the trading floor of the stock market. Only leave open medical, food and 100% needed entities. Or....leave everything open and we reap what we sow. Again..I really have no clue what is the best approach BUT it should be consistent for the entire country and not broken down state by state.
Then $35 per bag per segment.Quote: redietzI saw a Spirit flight from Nashville to LV, $28. And $26 of that is taxes.

Agree completely, and this is where capitalism and state-vs-state economies are going to spin their wheels. If you don't shut the big casinos, you are leaving enormous fingers out of the dike that defeat the purpose of having fingers in the dike to begin with.
You need federal oversight, and I'm not sure this country is designed or equipped to facilitate the degree of oversight that would minimize this.

Quote: SOOPOOGetting back to the thread. I am willing to bet there will be major casino closings in Las Vegas. If anyone is truly interested in betting against me I have a few dollars left in my account!
Will all agree that Wynn/Encore count as major casinos? I am truly stunned that members here thought they would stay open. Joe Blow gets COVID-19. Where were you last week? Slots at Mirage...... Mirage..... can we have the list of players who played slots there last week....?. We want to have them all quarantined......

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- MGM Resorts and Wynn Resorts announced Sunday their properties in Las Vegas would temporarily close as part of an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus.Quote: OnceDearI'd say next to no chance of any of the top ten Vegas casinos closing their doors for more than 24 hours within the next 30 days.
MGM Resorts said operations at its Las Vegas properties would be suspended until further notice, effective Tuesday, March 17. The casinos will close Monday, followed by hotel operations.
MGM Resorts includes Bellagio, CityCenter, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, The Mirage, New York-New York, Park MGM and T-Mobile Arena.

I would question if there is not some sort of law requiring them to honor your reservation stay once checked in or at the least give plenty of time for an orderly shutdown.
Quote: WizardI think that would be the wise decision, but would bet against that happening. Money comes before lives here in Las Vegas.

On a side note: I heard the resorts were still charging resort fees, yet the stuff that's supposed to be included with Resort fees are all but shut down.
In fact, Mel himself still looks good for his age.
I'm a layman. I have no special skills, yet I nailed almost every timeline and projection for this horror almost on the button. All it took was reading a few articles in international papers, listening to actual experts, and having some respect for science.
What has surprised me most all along was the psychological resistance, both in forums and here in Tennessee, to what was coming. Passive and active denial. Just a dogged refusal to believe that Americans would suffer the same fate as Chinese, or Iranians, or Italians.
And now it's here, and the bureaucracy has had to admit to the facts of the matter in the last 48 hours.
This was not difficult to see coming.
Some people didn't believe when the reality was staring them down from 10 days away. That belief was highly correlated with a few variables, which I will skip out of respect for forum rules and regs. But the implications of those correlations will be pondered for generations to come.
He also published a list of essential business's that won't close if he does end up issuing such an order. Its good to know that I'll be able to get a haircut, play a round of golf and get my nails done. Doggie day cares can stay open, and liquor stores and take out eateries will be able to deliver liquor.
We are at a bit over 1,000 cases as we speak, although there is a lot of chatter on the net that the numbers are way off.
