I only noticed this because it's been speculated as one of the reasons for the recent significant Bitcoin price drops.

All it seems to mean is that they have constructed a Quantum Computer that surpasses a digital computers performance limits, they don't seem to have done anything with it yet though.

Everything changes with quantam computing. Encryption is dead, etc.

This was hyped up a bit much. Google’s quantum computer is a steam engine where you would need a Tesla to do anything useful. It only ran a really specialized non-practical algorithm faster than what a supercomputer could do. For anything useful, supercomputers are still better.

The bitcoin market may have reacted, but encryption isn’t broken.

If you look at IBM’s response I think it’s a pretty accurate summary.
