The white floors were covered with droppings, and almost every electrical wire was bitten through. If I hadn't seen it, I'd never have believed this all happened over a week's time.

I read everything in this thread and a large majority of the posts in the forum. Only because I'm a mod. So, I do read almost every snarky post that members write.
I liked him. I'll leave it at that to not break forum rules on religion.
He was old and in terrible health. In situations like this, I am not sad, but happy his suffering is over. I also tend to believe he held out until the day after Easter, to not ruin it by dying.
May the betting begin on the next one. Possible bets are:
1. Over/under number of votes needed in the conclave.
2. Will next Pope be from* Europe?
3. Will next Pope be from Italy?
4. Will next Pope to conservative/liberal (although I don't know how exactly to measure this)?
* from = Where he was Cardinal of at the time of the conclave, as opposed to place of birth.
It would be great to see FrG make an appearance to comment. I lost bets to him on the last Conclave.

5. What papal name will the new pope adopt.
There are betting sites quoting odds on various people. Seems a bit all over the map, and assume the market it thin and betting limits small.

I think maybe someone from Latin America or a Filipino, though the later would be a very dark horse. But I would not mind seeing someone from a place that is still more religious than where religion is fading.

These are the frontrunners. Catholics seem to love funky hats

The Pope's body is usually laid out on a high altar, but Francis chose to be displayed at a regular height, and for the first time in centuries, a Pope will be laid to rest outside of Vatican City.
His card number was 88235.
He died at 2:35 local time and was 88.

Call me cynical, but I'm suspicious that the bishops around him were looking for ways to cement the belief of the followers in divine coincidences and could have fudged the time of death. Any "sign" is good for recruitment.

What, the actual card wasn't among his personal relics, archived in a library for study and veneration?
(If it turns out one of my old video rental card numbers predicts my death...)
It was his old cheat notes from math class.

I'm cynical of your cynicism. Looking back, it's usually easy to find coincidences. For some reasons, we humans have a hard time with the concept of randomness. We are always looking to find meaning and cause/effect in everything. I better stop here before I have to suspend myself.

That's because we are pattern seekers, we look for patterns in everything. It's why we've been so successful and continue to be successful.
"Human beings are pattern seekers. We naturally look for patterns in our environment,
our lives, and even in randomness, seeking to understand and make sense of the
world around us. This ability to recognize and connect patterns is a fundamental
aspect of human cognition and has played a crucial role in our evolution and development."

You say that like it's a bad thing! To find things that are both objectively true and subjectively pleasing in the random, without being told how, may end up being the only thing that distinguishes us from machines.

Smooth probably got June Foray's death feed yesterday even though she died 8 years ago. Darkoz got Freeda Foreman's suicide death feed about two days after George's death. Freeda died 6 years ago. George died in March 2025. I posted something like,"Oh no, Freeda must have committed suicide two days after George's death to be join him in the afterlife. So sad, double tragedies within just two says. Another Poster responded something like,"Actually, Freeda committed suicide years ago, not today. So I looked up Freeda Foreman's death on Google and Google said she died in 2019. I told Darkoz something like,"Freeda committed suicide in 2019, not today. You had me thinking it was a double tragedy in just two days." Darkoz apologized and said he JUST got Freeda Foreman's death feed that day . So, Smooth most likely JUST got June Foray's death feed yesterday when she died in 2017. 💡

She was on Rowan and Marin's Laugh-In, which was a phenomenon when it first aired. She turned a character into a fifty year career.
Rest in Peace, although I thought she was already dead.

Looks as if she had a long, varied career alongside many famous peers.
Wikipedia has a paragraph without citation noting her Las Vegas connection:
Buzzi had a successful nightclub act across the United States, including at Las Vegas's Sahara and at the MGM Grand hotels. She performed the act for one year. Her shows all sold out and she was reportedly offered an extended stay but declined.

I seem.to recall she did some Disney films. Secondary characters like a frazzled woman you remembered because of her ditziness. 70's flicks.
EDIT: Looked it up. My memory served me well enough. She was in Freaky Friday as a coach and the Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again. Also the North Avenue Irregulars which is mostly a forgotten Disney film.

and death-defying. He was the most extreme wrestler I ever met and put his life on the line every night. He reached his career zenith in the legendary ECW, but never fit in at the larger companies.
He had his retirement match in Las Vegas over Wrestlemania weekend, and it drew several thousand real people—amazing for an independent show. Unfortunately, he'd injured his leg a week before the match, and it was doubtful he'd make it. Hyped up on kratom and weed, he showed up three hours late and insisted on wrestling in a white dress suit, as he didn't want anyone to see how flabby he'd become. A few minutes into the match, he missed his spot and crashed headfirst into a ringside table, knocking himself out for several minutes. Instead of stopping the match, the promoter improvised and sent a half dozen guys from the locker room to distract the crowd while Sabu tried to recover. Interviews after the bout and in the next few weeks indicated he remembered nothing after the head-first collision.
Over the weekend, he collapsed while being interviewed on a podcast and never regained consciousness.
Although he was billed as being from Bombay, India, Syria, and Bombay, Michigan, Terry was born in Staten Island and moved to Detroit when his real-life uncle, The Original Shiek, brought him in as his apprentice.
His signature move was using a chair to spring onto the top ropes and then do a dive or even a somersault onto his opponent, who was often in the crowd.
Sleep Well, My Brother. We shall meet again.
The wrestling promotion and the Palms are catching flak about letting him wrestle in his condition. Still, after his longtime companion/valet passed away during COVID he had nothing but the business.

That delightful, groundbreaking classic movie "It's a Mad, Mad Mad, Mad World"- apparently there is only one credited actor still alive. Even the young boy played by Eddie Rosson at age 7, met the fate not unexpected of child actors in the 1990s.
The last survivor, if my calculations are correct, is Barrie Chase, who played an unnamed hippie girlfriend and will be 92 this year. Carl Reiner may have been the last before her.
Last I checked 2 of the trees of "the Big W" were still standing in Palm Springs, but that was a while back too and they could be gone now.
The movie innovated in that it had product placements, and also was full of cameos, but for anybody who was anybody in the Golden Age of comedic acting, 1930s to 1950s. I think it was the last movie appearance for the Stooges. Shot in the Palm Springs area where many of them retired to, so it wouldn't be hard for them to show up and do something funny. It felt like the movie was made to tell them all "Thanks, for getting us through the middle of this century."
The last few years were rough. He'd always had a reputation for double bookings and no showing, and it got worse over the years. He'd moved to Vegas because of the ease of air travel, but most of his matches were typical indie shows with 100-300 fans that couldn't cover air fare so he'd lose money if he didn't do meet and greets and hawk merchandise.
I'm glad he went out to a near sell-out crowd.
ECW was magic. The little engine that could. Big Dick,Dudley, Dances with Dudleys, Pyscho Sam Dudley, and another Dudley worked in my clubs at various times, and they invited me to some of the after show events, which were next level.
I just watched a Sabu/Rey Mysterio match from one of the few Long Island shows I hadn't seen before. It was from 1994, when Rey was young and Terry was at his peak. Rey looked eighteen when he was in his thirties, and he was nineteen years old and maybe one hundred and forty pounds when they signed him.
Bill Alphonso 67 wow their is a name I remember. I remember back in the day Paul Heyman kept introducing new Dudley until the crowd started chanting no more Dudley lol
