Thread Rating:
Many of the images posted previously on threads in this WOV forum will go dark/disappear when tinypic.com goes off the internet. I know that every image I have posted on this forum will disappear from my old posts, because I have always used tinypic.com.
So, I think there are multiple issues.
1. Loss of previously posted images in the WOV forum. Think photos in trip reports, photos of casinos chips. Many of my mathematical posts used png images of spreadsheet results that will be lost.
2. Are other free image hosting sites available for the future of the WOV forum? And likely to stay free and available for the long-term?
3. Can/should the forum software be modified to allow people to directly post images in the future without using a third-party image hosting site?

No. I don't want to see hundreds of
pics of slot jackpots and what people
had for dinner at the casino or what
their hotel room looks like. Hint:
They all look the same.
I don't really want to see all that either but I don't have to look.Quote: EvenBobQuote: AxelWolf3. Can/should the forum software be modified

Just like I don't care what you or anyone ate for breakfast. I don't have to read it.
There are some things worth seeing or posting. I haven't posted some of those things B/C it's a pain in the ass.

That font tho. Oof.
Personally, I've always used tinypic when posting a picture and will mourn the loss of their services. May they rest in peace. Gone but not forgotten.

That font is my font. That's my phone font, which you obviously do not like. Haha It will be in the font you have selected for your phone.
Quote: rdw4potusAll my chip images and and trip report photos are on photobucket. they converted to a paid service a couple years ago. It's no fun to pay $60/yr for the hosting, but I can't imagine breaking alllllll those links. I wonder why tinypic didn't try a paid solution? Even on their way out the door, some folks would probably pay a small amount to preserve existing linked content.
Tiny pic has been my go -to from the start. This sux.
But I'm interested in ams288's twitter solution.
Quote: ams288I use Twitter whenever I need to post pics. Just tweet out the pic and copy the url to the pic. Couldn’t be easier.
Does it embed on here or just a link?
Yes, posting photos here is a bit awkward, but I understand why our forum host doesn't want to provide image hosting services.Quote: GWAEThere are times that I would like to post a pic but it is such a pain. For those of you that post pics often do you do it from phone or computer?
Back before I took an early retirement in 2004, I considered doing a bit of post-retirement consulting. Eventually, I decided that the marketing portion of the work would be more than I cared for, so I never began such an effort in earnest. I did, however, create a web site with my own domain name, and I still use it to manage all of my personal email. Giving up that domain name (and email addresses) would be a nuisance now, so I continue to pay the registration and hosting fees.
I use the associated hosting services as the repository for all of the images that I post on this forum, mostly casino chips. I make the post syntax even more complicated, because each of the chips images that I post is also an active link to a larger image of the chip. Yes, it is awkward -- both getting the images stored properly at my own domain and getting them linked properly here -- but I have done it so many times now that I can handle it fairly well from a computer keyboard. Can't recall whether I have even tried to post such images directly from my phone.
I do not use twitter at all, either to post or read.
Quote: GWAEDoes it embed on here or just a link?
It embeds just like any other picture if you do the [img= before it.
All the pictures I posted in my recent trip report came from Twitter.

Yeah basically what I suggested doing with tapatalk.
And I certainly don't think Twitter's hosting capabilities are going anywhere.
Quote: GWAEI wonder how much hosting it would be to add that feature? I dont think there are that many pics on here but if there was hosting they may get flooded with 1000s of pics to overload them maliciously.
Dont know if you know this but people upload child porn to websites like this so they get into toruble.

I use firefox and for some reason I can't see any of your twitter images unless I click on the image and open it.

I post from computer, but first I have to get it from my phone to the computer. I send the picture in an email to a friend who works at an office. He downloads the image and prints it out. Then he sends it to me via fax. I jimmyrigged my computer to allow for faxes (it’s expensive but worth it). Then I turn it into a .pdf because that’s how it gets downloaded or whatever. I take a screenshot of the .pdf, open up Microsoft paint, then crop out the excess. From there, you just go to whatever image hosting website you want to use and upload it there. It sounds more complicated than it really is. From start to finish it only takes 2-3 hours at the most.
I tried that and failed. And I’m pretty good with html so I think it was something Twitter prevented.Quote: ams288I use Twitter whenever I need to post pics. Just tweet out the pic and copy the url to the pic. Couldn’t be easier.

Hmmm.. can you see the pictures in this post? https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/trip-reports/33348-semi-live-encore-las-vegas-trip-report/#post729946
I tweeted them out and just used the url from Twitter.
Again, I think that the WOV forum owner and lead administrators would do well to consider the implications of what is happening.
It worked out for the nerds too, they got in Lamda lamda lamda.Quote: FCBLComishI just don't post any pictures. It has worked well for me so far.
Just had an idea while writing my Nerds movie joke, if you could take all your pics and turn them into YouTube videos, that would work.
I apologize for using the N word. I will refer to those people as imagineers.
Here is the link to the thread "James Bond Does Blackjack" which was a humorous picture story I posted.

I'd never seen that thread before, and just checked and all the images came through for me.

I don’t know what you’re doing that I apparently am doing differently. :(
I'd assume somehow being the only ones left means a game of chicken was won and the remaining companies are the ones left being profitable. Assuming paying customers will look for another site to use. If this company can make it with advertising, id assume they can't all have the same flawed approach.Quote: gordonm888Will the same financial realities that are forcing TinyPic.com to close, also cause Imgur and other free Image Hosting sites to close in the future?
