How do hosts decide to locate carded new players? Is it based on the average bet or total action amount?
Do hosts approach existing low-roller player if the player suddenly coin-in a lot in a day?
What info can hosts see on their computer in the host office?
I saw a guy in the suit(not sure if he's a slot director or a host) grabs a hand-held device(it's bigger and thicker than iPhone), and he walks around the slot machine area greeting players.
What is that device? Is it a carded player location tracker?
Nowadays I just hear absurd flirtatious music when I walk into the restrooms.
Quote: ChumpChangeOne time, when I was a newbie at a casino 25 years ago, I took a walk from one end of the casino to the other, and on my way, 7 slot machines hit hand pay jackpots just as I was walking past them, all in different parts of the casino.

I'm sure that's just sn interesting coincidence. :)
I think what we really want to figure out is how to avoid being approached by a host while betting a lot?
We want to meet a host when we want to, we don't like surprises.
There was probably some jackpot promotion going on and he didnt even realize it. Just imagine what all the people were thinking during the jackpot promotion at the Plaza. We had entire banks lit up with jackpots at the same time. The tourists were very confused and amazed about what was going on.Quote: NathanI'm sure that's just sn interesting coincidence. :)

If your not interested when they approach, say that. Then they leave.

I've never had one of these conversations last more than 10 seconds.
Are you RDW?
Yes.
Cool, I'm Host! You need anything?
Nope, I'm easy.
OK, let me know if that changes.
I suppose if I was playing with 50 cards and I was currently "carol" or something, it'd be worse to see the host coming.
That has been my experience as well (mostly when I was Diamond at CET). Although there is one property where I still get a host greet.Quote: rdw4potusI've never had one of these conversations last more than 10 seconds.

Once in Reno and a couple of times on my last cruise, I have had a host come up to me out of the blue and give me something. In Reno, it was a buffet comp. On the cruise ship it was first a certificate for a bottle of wine in the MDR, second was a discount cruise certificate.

Yes its happened to me and on female cards
Generally I find the hosts are pretty dumb in my personal experience.
Remember they are coming out because you are giving them some immense coin-in. What are they gonna say, "we dont want your money now?" Usually I just say that my GF just went to get some food and left her card in." Hosts dont bother to wait for them to return
I have hosts come up to me all the time. At first it startles me a little because as a recovering table games player I am always a little scared when someone in a casino comes up from behind calling my name. Unless you are doing something shady I wouldn’t think there is much to worry about. I think they’re pretty clueless when it comes to anything involving gambling. All they care about is here is my card and do you want to come to the upcoming slot tournament. They may be familiar with card pulling so I would be careful with that.Quote: WalterWThanks.

I have yet to figure out exactly what hosts do. They seem to just want to have you book your room through them because i’m assuming they get paid on your action if they book it rather than you calling the generic phone number.

That's what they do for small players. They are much more involved with large players. Setting up flights, entertainment, dinners and other services.

Consider asking to meet one when it is good for you. Be polite, but tell them "don't call me, I'll call you." They should respect that, maybe tell them you think hosts are bad luck at the slots, that you like to concentrate, whatever.
I met a few hosts when I was doing casino secret shopping a few years back. I will ditto that they are not that bright. Maybe a better way to say it is they try not to look smarter than the players. I played the part of Mickey the Mope when I approached them, and the script I was supposed to use made you play that part. I would just hit the PC desk and ask if they have a "do not call" option.
If you are not using a PC then you are out of luck there.
Quote: mcallister3200I’m surprised the host position even still exists at most casinos, seems mostly pointless and of little value to the casino in the big data era.
I am inclined to say the reverse. Big data means you need to mine that data. Keep the player from going across the street. Find out what makes them tick. Maybe they like dinner, maybe a show. All the free shows in the world will not get me to show up, but the dinner would. Some other person may be just the opposite. Only the human touch can find this out for sure.

So there's a "do not call" flag meaning do not come and approach me out of the blue? Or just do not call me on my phone? The former is a nice little tip if true.
I guess I’m still a small player. That’s ok, since I’m usually gambling by myself none of that matters to me. I did call my host last year and she set up a comped dinner at the steak house on mother’s day for my mom.Quote: Zcore13That's what they do for small players. I am not quite saying there is a "flag." What I am thinking is if you do not want to be bothered and you can tell the right person at the PC desk ( i.e.: a supervisor, not the college coed giving people new PC cards) and say polite but firm, "Hey, I do not want your hosts bothering me while I play, can you put a note saying 'don't call me, I'll call you" or the like.
Most modern Contact Management Software should have a "free notes" section where they can note this, though you may have to do it each visit.

That sounds like a great way to get yourself flagged.
Probably as suspicious as saying "please dont give me any freeplay offers"

Flagged as what? A person who likes to be left alone?
Hopefully.Quote: AZDuffmanFlagged as what? A person who likes to be left alone?
"Hey DJ nice to meet you I am *insert asian ass name here*. If you need anything let me know"
these are nice cuz I don't care to talk to a host for any reason
These suck:
"HEY DJ WAT UP HOWS IT GOING YA HIT THAT MACHINE YO TAKE OUR MONEY HEY BTW DO YOU LIVE HERE? WHAT AREA? OH MAN LET ME TELL YOU A STORY ABOUT SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED 10 YEARS AGO AT THIS PLACE AND BLAH BLAH BLAH YA FAM IT WAS LITTY. SO LETS TALK ABOUT THE RAIDERS MOVING HERE AND OH MAN ITS TURNT UP"
