I may have figured it out.
The casinos are selling us HOPE.
Very little in this world instills hope any more: every thing is just fractured: Rep vs. Dem, white vs. black, have vs. have not: the list is endless and no end in sight.
So for me anyway the idea of actually hoping for something that could possibly come true is a positive thing, even though I lose in the long run playing negative expectation games.
I look forward to my casino forays, my heart filled with hope.

For me its entertainment at times or so something to break the monotony of life at other times. Depends on my mood I guess. I'm a natural pessimist so hoping for things is not something I readily do. Even when I'm behind do I hope for a big hand? Not really. I know if I play long enough I will eventually see a big payday. Only question is how long it will take to get one. A day, a month, a year, or longer? Only 1 way to find out. And that is to play.

I think that is what some people are buying, like the type who play the lottery. However, others are buying entertainment, an escape from reality, a safe adrenaline rush, or who know what. Those who get none of these things are probably those who say, "I just don't get the point of gambling, if the odds are against you."
Where most people buy their hope is in church.

I think they market dreams. Doesn't Caesars lack the apostrophe because it isn't Caesar's palace, but a palace for all the many Caesars.
Enter the Palace and every man is Caesar.
Enter the Palace and every man is Caesar.

lyrics from the song "Here's to Life":
"No complaints and no regrets
I still believe - in chasing dreams and placing bets
For there's no yes in yesterday
And who knows what tomorrow brings or takes away
As long as I'm still in the game
I want to play
So here's to life
And every joy it brings
So here's to life
To dreamers and their dreams"

They are selling lies
"Come to the winners circle"
"Where everyone is a winner"
Etc
Its really the losers circle. And when you do figure out a way to win they kick you out
