Guess it's going to make newspapers obsolete, if they try to suppress what's freely available elsewhere. We subscribe to several, just to support the medium. But if they're going to give in, they may have forfeited our collective patronage.
No, it's not about Trump. And I don't "love the immigrants so much". It's cutting commentary that's directly on-point about the consequences of bad and illegal policies being inflicted on immigrants. IOW, it's political cartooning at its best. And protected speech.
Chances are, the fired cartoonists have no legal recourse - the newspaper has the right to publish what and whom they want. But whenever expressing an opinion contrary to the government position is quashed, it needs to be noted.
So then you hate immigrants.Quote: beachbumbabsQuote: AxelWolfAgain, NVM that's it's about Trump. Are you telling me you don't find that disrespectful and inappropriate at all? The world is not just black and white, unless you're trolling someone.
There's clearly a place for migrant workers in our economy.
There's clearly a place for immigrants, students on visas, skilled workers on green cards.
There's clearly a need and a usefulness to a path to citizenship that benefits the US at LEAST as much as it benefits the immigrants.
There's clearly a need to stop human trafficking, illegal drugs, and criminals from coming into this country.
The issue, as Trump has positioned it, has been polluted into racist repelling of particular groups based ONLY on their country of origin, religion, or skin color.
It's repugnant and unAmerican at the most basic level, not to mention illegal and Unconstitutional in many cases. It's also divisive and harmful to our resident population.
That gets twisted into "liberals want open borders" and such. NO, they don't. They want the Rule of Law to govern who is admitted, how quickly, and asylum claims to be considered in a timely way. Liberals want over stayed visas to be enforced, enough agents on legal points of entry to process people quickly, enough agents available to patrol and stop illegal crossings, and smart borders that do a better job of detecting breaches and issues than a dumb wall.
But they also want this country to continue to grow and flourish with healthy amounts of immigrants. Unless any of us is NA, (Face, for one), we are ALL immigrants. And America is built on it. THAT'S the reality. The rest is hypocrisy.
Be sure to let Pelosi and Durbin know that.Quote: beachbumbabsThat gets twisted into "liberals want open borders" and such. NO, they don't. FB, Twitter, Google. All private companies.
They have as much right, as content providers, to decide what content they want to carry as the baker who won't make a gay wedding cake or the pharmacists who won't sell contraceptives or the morning-after pill. Or the Mexican restaurant that won't put pickled herring or borscht on their menu. Or a million other examples.
Those media companies have decided they don't want to transmit and effectuate hate speech, fake news, other stuff, including even the most innocent picture that includes female breasts. You don't like it, you're free to start your own social media company and set your own standards. Go to it - it's a free country.

This is a laughable argument.
Why should private companies not have the right to decide what content they allow on their platforms? There’s nothing stopping anyone from starting up a social media network that only allows conservative views. Or a YouTube-like site that only allows conservative videos to be posted. Nothing at all stopping anyone who hates liberals from starting up any internet site they like and excluding that content. In fact I’m sure there are many that do.

You live in the state with the scariest urban blight in America, the place of failed dreams and squandered power, and you're calling out California. Funny.
Did you know, in 1950, 75% of all automobiles in the world were manufactured in America, with the vast majority out of Detroit? In 2009, it was down to 8%, when we hit bottom, and is still only back around 12-13%.

Laughable argument?
The FANG’s are monopolies. They collect information on everyone and they control what ever information makes it to the public.
If it does not suit their agenda, or the agenda of their favorite Party, they bury it, as Google does. Or they change the truth as Netflix does.
We have laws that are supposed to prevent monopolies, but the politicians on both sides no longer enforce them because these companies fund re-election campaigns, and can use their monopolies on information to destroy their political careers, and control public opinion.
It would cost billions to create something like any one of the FANG’s, and that still would not be enough to compete with them. They’ve collected so much data on the public, ranging from purchasing habits to search preferences, and who knows what else, that no other data source is necessary for corporations or governments.
They keep a permanent record of every website you ever visited and every single thing you ever searched for online in your life. Imagine what will happen when they get hacked.
They’re in bed with the government too. The CIA developed EarthViewer at taxpayer expense for $200 million, then 'sold' it to Google for an undisclosed sum, who renamed it ‘Google Earth’.
Do you think the government will let anyone seriously compete with them?
How the CIA made Google
They trace your every move with their phone and auto GPS. They know what parks and museums you visit. They know what restaurants you go to. They even send you a text asking how you liked the park or the restaurant you just visited.
If you wear a Fitbit they know many steps you climbed, how far you walked, your heart rate, and even the quality of your sleep.
If that sounds benign, realize this is your personal information stored forever by a corporation that is selling it.
It could someday be used against you.
If you have a ‘smart’ thermostat, they know how warm or cool you keep your home. In the future, the government will require everyone to install ‘smart’ thermostats and use that technology to set our thermostats for us.
Facebook tracks you even when you are not a subscriber.
Amazon workers listen in on Alexa Conversations, even when not intentionally activated.

Trump govt is not protecting any web site from competition
What internet site has a monopoly?
The greatest thing about the internet is competition
Anybody can create a web site.
Anybody can compete against FB or Twitter
It might be civil to not alter statements by changing what other people say. No one ever said Trump is protecting the monopolists. Trump most certainly does not equal the entire federal government, despite whatever misimpressions quite a few people have. Especially those people who do not have a clue that a certain Web site reports that it controls 90 percent of Web searches. Google now processes over 40,000 search queries every second on average, which translates to over 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwideQuote: terapinedTrump govt is not protecting any web site from competition

What's your proposed solution to your perceived problem? You want government to step in? You probably are voting against your interests if so. But you just spent a couple days pushing a false story about Kamala Harris. It seems you have no problem finding the "information" you're looking for.
There have been a lot search engines over the past 20 years. Lycos, MSN, Yahoo, AskJeeves, Bing, Teoma, and more I'm not thinking of. The ones who have won this competition are the ones that have done it the best. Confused how a conservative free market capitalist would have a problem with this.
Oh because they banned Alex Jones? The guy that said Sandy Hook didn't happen? The guy that accused Israel of helping plan 9/11? The guy that Donald Trump said had an "amazing" reputation? Oh I get it now.

If you can't come up with as a big an audience as them, that is more about you and your views, than any kind of government suppression.
Quote: SteverinosThere have been a lot search engines over the past 20 years. Lycos, MSN, Yahoo, AskJeeves, Bing, Teoma, and more I'm not thinking of. The ones who have won this competition are the ones that have done it the best. Confused how a conservative free market capitalist would have a problem with this.
One solution is to pass laws prohibiting them from doing the things described in the Project Veritas video.
Those companies combined, don’t add up to a fraction of Google’s size and influence. You don’t seem to have a problem with their attempts to control you. It does not bother you that Google tried removing that damaging Project Veritas video from YouTube, because they don’t want you or anyone else to see it.
Here it is again:
“They can pressure us, but we’re not changing.” - Jen Gennai
On Senator Warren: “She’s also saying you’ve just got to break up Google. ....but she’s very misguided. It will not make it better. It will make it worse, because all these smaller companies who don’t have the same resources that we do, will be charged with preventing the next Trump situation. It’s not like a small company can do that.” - Jen Gennai, Head of Responsible innovation
They see themselves as the elite, self appointed masters the universe who must control the poor dumb slobs of the world for their own good.
Quote: billryanHow many times must they be exposed for selective editing before you stop promoting them? Perhaps a better question might be why you are so invested in a propaganda site like that.

Don't like google, don't use it
Its not necessary in life
Its not necessary for anything
If a ton of people use google, well they must be doing something right
The marketplace has spoken
Why don't conservatives create their own search engine instead whining like crybabies trying to pass laws against freedom

Why create a search engine when you can create your own facts?
