Tahoe or Reno (Harrahs Properties)
Could use opinions of which hotel to stay at in June, for gambling and overall cleaniness, classiest, and safety?
With Thanks,
Rick
Will stay in Tahoe.
Will rent a car.
Play sports, slots, video poker, and some table games.
Any other insights on ?
Again thanks
Are you currently in Tahoe?
Reno clientele is much seedier than Tahoe clientele. It's probably safe enough --- but Reno isn't nearly as nice.
At Reno, you have a considerable number of choices within walking distance --- which in June should be quite pleasant. Tahoe has a few close neighbors --- but not many.
Have the rewards card for Harrahs properties.
Will fly into Reno airport then get a rental car and drive to Harrahs Tahoe, at least that is the plan at this point.
Have time to change plans.
Suggestions on rental cars from Reno airport, someone talked about Priceline, never used them.
FYI, haven't been in Tahoe but once in a very long time.
Thanks to all
Quote: BobDancerVideo poker is considerably better in Tahoe. They have 25c Fifty and Hundred Play in 9/6 JoB and also 9/7 TDB (both return essentially the same, but the experience is MUCH different) where you earn reward credits at $10 per. You can play these machines for stakes between $1.25 and $125 a hand getting the full amount for the royal. You should be able to find a sweet spot in there somewhere. Reno video poker is not nearly as good.

I must yield to the expert, and I know paytables are only part of the game, but gosh, when I stopped at the Atlantis, I felt like a kid in a candy store. They seemed to have everything.
Any opinions on Harvey's other than it's across the street from Harahs?
Also was told it was normal to be charged a resort fee even if the room is comped?
Thanks for the input!

Log in and register, create your user name and password. Click on the rental car tab as they also have other options like flights, hotels, etc. Select your dates and bid. There is a link to name your own price, that's where you want to go. You will see multiple listings for car rental rates which may seem very reasonable, use that as a guide for a Price point and you can do better by bidding $10 or more lower. They will only allow you to bid twice within a 24 hr period, so I just resubmit my bid a couple of days later. Or I wiill go directly to the car rental website and see if it's any better. They will always state the demand for the area is high, try bidding higher. Bunch of lies and a marketing ploy.
Unlike hotels, when it comes to car rental companies, there is no difference. A midsize or full size car will be the same whether it's from Hertz, Avis or Dollar, which is why Priceline is great for renrting cars. You will always get a company that has vehicles on site. No fly by night rental car located offsite.

I live in Reno, use to live in Vegas which I thought was the best city in the country. After spending time in Reno, it's so much better. Weather, outdoors and generous offers and comps from the casinos without betting a fortune. All you have to do is bet ten cents a hand playing the machines and your drinks are free.

The casino floor is nearly a clone of Harrah's connected by a tunnel under the street.
Looking to rent a car from Reno airport, but have time.
Unfortunately, unless you are Diamond or higher, all Caesars properties will make you pay the resort fee.Quote: rpw612Also was told it was normal to be charged a resort fee even if the room is comped?
Because some MBA bean counter said it was a good way to scam their customers.Quote: VegasriderWhat a scam... . You're there to sleep, gamble and eat. Why should there be a resort fee?

Unless it's changed recently, Laughlin waives resort fees for Platinum. I doubt it's the only one of the CET properties that does so.
I think prior to 2015, fees were waived for Platinum.Quote: billryanUnless it's changed recently, Laughlin waives resort fees for Platinum. I doubt it's the only one of the CET properties that does so.
Currently, the TR site wants to charge me a $14/nt resort fee on a comped room in Laughlin. I am Platinum.
The way I understand the resort fee is, it's the way the hotels bypass splitting profits with the travel site eg, Expedia, Travelocity, etc.
Anytime someone books with a travel site to a Vegas hotel the hotel has to pay the travel site a good portion, but the full resort fee stays with the hotel.
That said most of the time the R.F. is comped with the comped room, at least in my experiences.
But they weren't Caesars properties.

It's not just that, it's hotel taxes as well. Also a way to collect money from "comped" rooms. And so on.
Quote: rpw612Didn't know they charged taxes on a comped room?
Taxes should be reversed. You cant tax something that is zero.

Even if a room is "comped" they will still charge resort fees with Sales Tax but not the hotel tax.
Boomtown.
Reno.

Developing story.
Apparently not so "developing" at all.Quote: FleaStiffDeveloping story.
True dat, but the victim is just as dead.Quote: VegasriderYou have to be bold to commit a murder at a casino with all the cameras/ surveillance videos..
It appears Boomtown is similar to Samstown. That western rustic ambiance with very low limits.
Does it equal or surpass in squalor some of the seedy north Las Vegas strip environs?
Quote: MrVHow seedy is the area near the downtown Reno casinos?

Embarrassed to say I have spent a lot of time in N Las Vegas playing Bingo so I know the area well from the Nugget up to the Poker Palace.
Best comparison for downtown Reno to areas of Vegas would be downtown Vegas with the casino's along Freemont. The Reno Arch is the epicenter of the city and most of the hotels near it are really nice. Once you get off Virginia St and start walking down some of the alleyways and small surface streets, it gets pretty seedy, just like downtown Vegas.
When I went to Boomtown in Biloxi it was virtually deserted and the food was miserable. Samstown on the Little Strip in Vegas is head and shoulders above Boomtown. Only Boomtown advantage: shuttles.Quote: VegasriderIt appears Boomtown is similar to Samstown. That western rustic ambiance with very low limits.
I don't know much about Reno but I think the Grand Sierra is the one with the River Cam.
Well long story short, will be at Harrahs Reno.
Any suggestions on which room to try and get,,,, do have walking issues?
Any thoughts period with regards to eateries, as well as surrounding casinos?
Also what to stay away from.
With Thanks to all.
How about best tower to stay in?
Thanks
