Could easily be a legitimate reason for him to do this professionally. Full support hose compress and support your entire leg, add a warmth layer, protect your muscles and tendons. He's getting thrown off his feet several times a game, and he's getting older. Excellent injury protection.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

I think he will have full support from his teammates, in particular his tight ends and wide receivers, as he shines under the bright lights... whether he runs or throws the balls with silky smooth spirals. Tommy Shine is the new Broadway Joe!
