I mean anyone could use someone's screen name from other forums to make a person they dislike look bad.
Like PeeWeeMark could really be the BallWashingDrunkenDwarf or Ipicksix could be IPickUpSkanksOnTheNet. Or SteveChambers could be PaulGlick or PepeAlan could be BHP.
Unless a person really meets up with said poster then anyone could pretend to be anyone there warped mind makes up. I guess that's the "beauty" of the 'net for certain cowards
What's your point of view on this topic?
I think there are groups on this forum who do meet and know each other (I personally have never met anyone on here).
But, my point of view is , this is no different than any forum. Or even social media, even on Facebook it is easy for somebody to make a fake account if they really sesire to. To some degree you just have to be trusting, and use the logic "what motivation would this person have for lying:".
I have my actual picture as my profile pic, and have stated many times what I do, yet there was a period of time that there was a group of people on here (with a conspiracy theory mindset) that I was some agent of Caesars because I defended a Harrah's security guard in some post (I don't even remember the details now). It is good to not be too trusting, but at the same time, not everything is a conspiracy, and there are some people on here that think everyone who disagrees with them is an agent of some big Casino....
Basically, if you are just here to casually chat about Casino and related stuff, who cares.... You can pretend to be the Archbishop of Moscow, I could care less. The only people who seem to care are those who have the mindset that there is always somebody out to get them, or the AP types who think the casinos are watching their every post.
But yeah, basically the safe thing online is never trust anyone, and hopefully you never have a reason to trust anyone, I come to this site for casual casino chat, I don't need to gain the trust of anyone here. If you need somebody's trust that means you are looking for something. If anyone knows me in real life great, if not great, I have nothing to be concerned about either way, if somebody thinks I am lying great, if somebody thinks I am truthful great..... Long story short I have nothing to prove and nothing to gain and hence do not care about perceptions....
And, even if you have met somebody personally, there is always a slight chance that there account was hacked or hijacked, so online you can never be 100% sure....

I try. Was this geared at a specific interaction on here? Or just a general thought?
It's a shame that such person(s) exist, but then again it's quite possible said person(s) life revolves around these places.
As far as people assuming you, Gandler, worked for a casino, I would not assume so. Usually I assume when someone is defending an unfavorable position, they're really defending themselves. Such to say the defender sees a mirror of their own lives and wants to think the third party must be innocent or else they're guilty. So I wouldn't necessarily believe you worked for a casino, but would tend to believe there was something you weren't proud of you were actually defending.
Quote: WizardofnothingAren't you one of those people in question on various forums?
Quote: onenickelmiracleSomeone impersonated my forum handle once as I'm told, and acted like an ass putting people down unfoundedly. Had some suspicions who was doing it, and they were just an ignorant, confused twit.

IIRC you were defending the sucirity guards in AC who attacked that innocent family (including a young teenage girl ). ???Quote: GandlerThis really applies to any online interaction. Even if somebody posted their pic, and name, they could be impersonating anyone. Unless you know somebody personally and had them show you their account, you can never be 100% who is who.

I agree with what you say in general. We do police dupe identities and sock puppets, not always successfully, but it is a concern.
I'm certain we're not 100% clear of trolls and bogus idents, but I think this is one of the better forums in that regard. Sometimes we just bore them enough they wander away. More often we ban them. If anything, we're not welcoming enough to new members, though I think we've gotten more discerning and improved a bit over the last year on that front.
It's the internet. What can you do? Mosca, one of our finest members said famously, "You start with respect. You earn disrespect." I think that's pretty close to the model we follow, and it mostly works here.
Quote: beachbumbabsI've met over 100 people from this forum, most regulars. Mike's met more. Quite a few others vouch for people I haven't yet met. And I think several members active longer than me have met more wov'ers than I have as well. In-person seems to keep things in balance, as much as an anonymous forum can be.

Except, at least on this Forum, the auto-correct thingy wants to spell that as AMS ;-)
Quote: Mission146For my part, I'll say that I'm okay...but if I was going to pretend to be someone I'm not, I wouldn't be my first choice.
I remember some old-time comedian--maybe Groucho Marx--saying of someone that at least he wasn't two-faced, because if he was, why would he be wearing that one?
The answer to "how do we really know," of course, is "we can't." That hot blonde chick who really really wants to hook up with us is actually a 62-year-old chain-smoking housewife from Dyspepsia Falls, Kansas. That smooth-talking realtor who is offering us a fabulous deal on San Diego beachfront property is actually Akimbe Okowakubogo from Nigeria. And that guy calling himself "Wizard"... well, he could be ANYBODY.

Yes I was. I don't remeber the details. I just remeber my view was the most logical. Everyone on here loves to bandwagon against casino security.
As the majority of the time they should.Quote: Gandler...Everyone on here loves to bandwagon against casino security.

I do not agree. Obviously there are plenty of times security (or individual guards) act out of line.
However, when you are trying to remove a disruptive family who refuses to leave, sometimes your options are limited. And, guess what, sometimes young women can be just as aggressive and resisting as men, and sometimes they need to be physically escorted out as well.... Just because one of the people was a teenage female, does not automatically mean security was in the wrong....
Guess what, it is private property, if they decide that they do not want your business and tell you to leave, and you refuse, the property owner has a right to use his staff to encourage you to leave.
Security is not always wrong. Sometimes they are, but all situations have to be evaluated in a unbiased way.
For the record I have been removed by Harrah's security before, so I have no blind love of them, but I am still down to earth and realistic about it. I do not hold silly grudges, and I am not a conspiracy theorist.
