Quote: gordonm888Well, at least we can safely assume that a life of prostitution was not an option for paying her gambling debts.
I don't know.... Haven't you ever watched cops.....
Semi-On topic: My female teammate was with us in Vegas recently and in the bathroom of our strip casino/hotel she heard 2 prostitutes talking about their "daily attendees list." Apparently they were both VERY not attractive, yet the one boasted "I've had a black guy, an asian guy, and a white guy today gurl!" If I were to somehow ever feel the need to get a prostitute, it would undoubtedly have to be one that I considered "hot"/attractive.
So they did her a solid and knocked off $3k that she stole to only charge her with theft between $5k and $25k?Quote:Metro gaming's general manager contacted Kenner police April 6, McGregor said. Detectives obtained a warrant for her arrest and booked her Friday (April 15) with theft valued between $5,000 and $25,000.
Bond was set at $30,000. But Dibble was released from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna without paying bond because of crowding at the jail.
Also good to hear that if the jail gets to crowded, they just let people out...
Quote: RomesOn Topic: She looks like someone who plays slots. Interesting she confessed early. I wonder if she was the only one that had access to the money or if it could have been from a possibly pool of suspects? I'd ask to get the players card from where she played... Perhaps she was just plain old stealing and blamed it on "a gambling problem" when she knew she would be caught to try to lessen the punishment?

but the hot ones cost more. 1k for a hot one or 250 for one that may or may not be a dude. Some can only afford the latter.

I was thinking that too. So if I need to commit a non violent felony I should do it in an area that has a crowding issue.
Quote: ahiromuI don't even feel like this is something jail worthy. Restitution with interest, being 55 with a felony theft conviction would be bad enough... Probably not even qualify for a job at Walmart.
but if we let people do this and walk then crimes of similar would happen more often with case law behind it saying no jail time. I am all for letting her expunge her record after 3 years jail, 5 years probation and full restitution.
I agree with this. People should be able to get a clean record after X amount of time/restitution. If you paid your time, and any money, and after X years of probation you've been a model citizen, then you should be able to be considered a "normal" citizen and not carry around something people will (usually harshly) judge you for.Quote: GWAEbut if we let people do this and walk then crimes of similar would happen more often with case law behind it saying no jail time. Then again, the math says that X% of offenders are repeat offenders... So perhaps this is why the title sticks? As more of a warning? Still sucks to those that never commit another crime, but perhaps that's part of the punishment?
...back to the thieving casino manager and hooker stories!

<deleted, I actually thought about it before I posted, I'm making progress. Who said you couldn't teach an old dog new tricks?
I really don't consider myself soft on crime, but it just seems like a waste of state money to put her in jail. However, I'll readily admit I don't have enough information to make more than a guess.

They were talking about BJ's. 99% of
hookers won't even do regular sex
unless you pay a whole lot for it.
It's dangerous disease wise, and takes
way too much time. They can make far
more doing oral sex. I learned this from
hookers I picked up in my cab years
ago. Slam bam thank you ma'am, that's
their motto.
The voice of wisdom has spoken, you should listen, and think. Maybe, prolly ;-)Quote: EvenBobThey were talking about BJ's. 99% of

Not sure that 'slam bam' was the correct term, I have decided not to provide an alternative....

I had to chuckle about the Player's Card bit - these are basically gas stations with very basic/standard video poker machines. No slots or anything else.
The only real casino nearby would be Harrah's downtown New Orleans or the slots at the Fairgrounds Racetrack. Neither is a very pleasant experience.
Quote: ahiromuLocking her up for three years will cost the state more than she stole. My one "leap of faith" is that I am of the opinion that someone like this would not reoffend. $25k is (likely) less than her annual salary, she thought she could get away with stealing a bit and lost. We aren't dealing with a career thief here.

I would agree with you if this wasnt being done over a long period of time. Maybe it snowballed out of control and she thought she could win it back and she never did. Or maybe she has a chronic disease and will do it again.
Quote: GWAEMaybe it snowballed out of control and she thought she could win it back and she never did. .
They always think that. They start off winning,
then they chase with the company money
trying to get back to even. Happens somewhere
all the time, embezzling to gamble. I'm sure
there are people who have done it successfully.
Why would we ever hear about them.

Maybe slurp & burp would be a more apropos term than 'slam bam'.

It may also depend on whether or not "restitution" is considered a fine. Under federal tax law, stolen money is income, but fines are not deductible, so if she stole, say, $25,000 and has to pay it back as a fine, she still has to pay tax on the $25,000.

Prices are even higher nowadays
Pick up this one last week in Vegas, I don't even want to say the cost
