I was planning a quick trip to Vegas this week (like today through Sunday) but my partner ended up just now telling me he can no longer go. We didn't book the flights yet as they were cheap and same price yesterday/today. I did already take off the next 3 days from work, so here I am with a 5 day window that's just wide open.
I still want to just do a quick trip, like 2-3 days or something, but it just settled in to me right now that pretty much the world is my oyster! I would like to be back in town Friday evening if possible, and willing to fly out tonight.
I'm fairly hooked up in Vegas (rooms, food, very cheap flights) but I would love to check out somewhere I've never been... Which is all of the places listed other than Vegas. The primary objective of this trip would be scouting (other than Vegas)... Much more than blackjack.
So I leave it to the forums. Tell me good places to go check out for the first time and I'll probably make a fun trip report, with plenty of pictures, out of it =).
Edit: I want to keep the thread open too... Not just for my situation, but for anyone's. IF you could just pick up and go somewhere tomorrow, where would you guys go?
Of all the times people give their opinions on this forums, now the cats got some tongues?
If it were a warmer month, I would have suggested adding Reno/Tahoe to your list of possible destinations.
Yeah Reno/Tahoe are on my list too, but probably not in the middle of December I suppose. They're definitely options and on the list though!Quote: JoemanOK, Romes, this is purely selfish on my part, but I think you should head down to Biloxi and bring back a report from the new Scarlet Pearl casino that just opened! I'm actually headed to Biloxi next month and was wondering if the SP would be worth a visit. You might also check out their $500 loss rebate if you could plan return trips to collect.

This is actually a very good point my fast running mind forgot. I've never actually been to Laughlin. Perhaps Vegas, and head up there for a day isn't a bad idea...!Quote: BozI know its close, but have you ever visited Laughlin? Perhaps you will find something worthwhile there other than looking at the river.

The only thing I will say Romes, is that IMO, this is absolutely the best week of the year in Vegas. From the time the rodeo ends and the cowboys leave town (yesterday), it is one of the slowest times of the year in Vegas, right up until Christmas Eve when large numbers of Chinese invade the city, followed by the rest of the country and world beginning on Christmas day afternoon until New year's Eve.
About the only negative to the uncrowded conditions that I can think out is some of the shows go dark, and restaurants close down for a week or so to "reset for the holidays, so if that is high on your priority list, I would pick another week.
I would just stick to what you know and head to Vegas. What happens if you find something good in Biloxi. Do you really want to have to pick Biloxi over Vegas on your next trip. This is an easy decision for me.

You extend the trip. ;-)
You just don't believe in life outside Vegas, KJ =). Yeah, Vegas is becoming more and more the front runner as I now have a couple of others that might be interested in meeting up in Vegas. Seems to be the cheapest option for all involved (and definitely for me too... $90 round trip flight plus $450 in free play and $75 in food).Quote: kewljWait....is there gambling in other places besides Vegas? :-?? Is there even life outside of Vegas? I thought the world ended at the mountains just outside the valley.

The idea of scouting is for return trips =P. I love Vegas, but if my scouting goes well in any of these other places then my EV will be 10x that of my EV for Vegas, so yeah, I'll head there a couple times a year ha.Quote: GWAEIf you are not going to frequent those areas then why waste time unless you are going for an immediate loss rebate or other promotion? What good is scouting going to do if you don't make it back to that area for 6 or 7 months.

Well that certainly does look AMAZING. Somehow though I'm thinking the 3 day trip will be like 10-20x as expensive as most of the other options =P.Quote: coilmanhttp://bahamarbahamianriviera.com/
life outside a casino will be warm
I agree though with no other concerns, that looks like a pretty sweet vacation destination!

Well I thought the water went well with this part of your post
Caesars Windsor is offering 32 cents on the American $$$
And I hear pizza around town is pretty darn good
If you stayed Friday night you could do a write up on the NEW NIGHT CLUB they have
just dont walk to the south east of the Casino parking.... too much killing going on
Yeah, she might talk slow,
But were you really looking for conversation?
The world is my oyster... so I'm going to Las Vegas, NV! lol I was going to try to go with whatever had the most votes anyways, so I guess that works?
I have a couple friends that adventurously hopped on the spontaneous trip band wagon and they loved the idea of Vegas, especially since I have free rooms =P. I thought they weren't AP's, but that sure seems like some savings to me! So I will be in Vegas after all =). I love the idea of traveling to Laughlin though. Heard a lot about that place but have yet to venture out there.
Appreciate the feedback and opinions. I'm definitely going to keep this list and go down through them one at a time checking them off next year.
If KJ can even do a trip report, I suppose I'll have to do one as well. Especially since my one buddy flying in is the kind of guy that has woken up in Vegas the next morning/afternoon and found out he had 3 separate credit cards canceled.
Wait, you go to a Vegas forum and ask where you should go for your gambling destination? I think the fix was in the minute you posted! I call 'Shenanigans!' ;)Quote: RomesAt least for me, it's been decided!

Have a great time, Romes! I'll be looking forward to the report!
Quote: MrVI hope some day to check out ATLANTIS.
That is a goal of mine but I will never have 10k to do that.
It costs that much for airfare, room and meals?
Atlantis is cool, once. Was just there (nearby) in Nov. In all honesty I have not 'stayed' there, over my pay grade apparently. I have walked thru and looked at this and that in the casino more than once. I am not impressed with the casino. The water park was good, but access coming off a cruise ship is quite pricey..Quote: MrVI hope some day to check out ATLANTIS.
Baha Mar, the potential competition, appeared to still not be open for business, about a year after the original expected opening date.
For Atlantis, enjoy the aquarium type amenities, water park is nice, don't pay extra for the beach. Lot's of good beaches everywhere round there, most free. Casino? I need to go back and have a better look ;-)

You're about 60 years too young. Welcome to endless carding "I know I asked you 5 minutes ago but can I see your ID again?"
it's got nuttin to do with age, it's the database, always the database.Quote: djatcYou're about 60 years too young. Welcome to endless carding "I know I asked you 5 minutes ago but can I see your ID again?"
I'd assumed it would be a bare trickle by the time it got there: not so.

What database? I don't play blackjack, just machines.

There is a variety reasons why we get Security to ID people. It's not always tracked, and they're all legitimate reasons.
This is on your way to and from Vegas; http://www.yelp.com/biz/grapevine-canyon-laughlin.Quote: RomesSo I'm in an interesting (good) situation, and I would like some opinions, which I know most everyone on here has NO PROBLEMS providing =).

I couldn't believe how many times I had been there and not checked these "Petroglyphs" out? I think there are about 700 of them, easy walking, but beware the elevation. It can be pretty chilly if the wind is blowing, it is well worth the visit, I am definitely going there again.
As always in this part of the country, take water.
spirit... I'm young-ish and only have 1 backpack (all I need) so no carry on or checked bags. Super cheap AND I'll get $50 free play at the D for presenting my spirit boarding pass.Quote: GWAEWhat airline are you using now?
Heading out tonight =).

Not really, go plus, then if there is some smoke over wherever, then you evacuate along with everyone else...
That is actually not a funny joke.
I tried, I failed. I simpleton. I will try again...
How about this?
Just go and win!
How is that?
I was on a direct flight that just landed.Quote: GWAEOut of the north airport or the one with free parking? I don't want to out the area you frequent. Hope that makes sense? It's a shame we lost the direct flight.
Hello again Vegas, you old friend.

have fun. I am still sad we lost the direct. Could always make the drive up to that airport. I don't like the flight times though. It gets in late and leaves early.
