Simply scroll down on the page and select your starting city (if it's available) and enjoy the absurdly cheap flights. The price is with taxes and fee's. They also allow one "personal item" which I've found can be a back pack with 5-6 days worth of clothes/etc =).
The page says that you must book by TOMORROW NIGHT at midnight (11:59pm on Sept 18th).
Quote: RomesAs I've flown on Spirit Air a few times I got an e-mail campaign from them that I thought I'd at least share with anyone looking to book some travel for the rest of the year... $24/one way member flights and $34/one way flights for non-members.

Very generous of you to share, Romes. I looked at 8 weeks from now for the Cutting Edge conference, and fares were not less than 140 each way before baggage/seating/etc. FWIW, Delta beats them. So I guess I'm on a not-very-competitive route. But again, I appreciate the chance to look.

There's always a catch :-) As an AC gambler, for 34 bucks, I want to fly away from AC to LV for some 3:2 single bj games. So what's the catch? There's no Las Vegas destination per the list below:
Hey Romes, thanks for your head-up/tip anyway.
Quote: GWAEWe are flying out to vegas in 2 weeks. We are taking our chance on spirit. For 23.10 each way it is a worthwhile risk. The next cheapest right now is 198 each way. For $1100 savings I will risk it.
If you are going far prepare for an uncomfortable trip because the seats do not recline unless you pay for the upgrade to the front seats.
Most flights I take I don't take much stuff so I can get away with a backpack for no charge. I don't mind their model at all.
I live by the motto, expect the worse and you will never be disappointed.
Just received a bonus 1000 miles in email. I assume anyone can claim the miles if you have a spirit account.

Flying spirit is like playing 3cp or changing diapers.
Here's hoping you have a safe, fun, & trouble-free trip!
While you ARE standing in lines, you'll be under the covered pavilions and out of the rain. Take what you can get.Quote: GWAEYeah I saw that. Sunday is 90% chance of rain so Disney will be fun. On a positive note, maybe we will be the only ones there and there won't be lines.
Here's hoping you have a good trip, don't feed the gators, keep your kids well away....
Cheers! 2F
As far as crowds go, the rain and the time of year will definitely work in your favor. Unfortunately, the holiday weekend is working against you.Quote: GWAEYeah I saw that. BTW, 2F is correct. The vast majority of the queues will be under cover. It's the staying dry getting from one to the next that is the trick!
The crowds have been crazy this past year or two compared to the previous few, but you may get lucky with the weather.Quote: GWAElol so I guess you are saying there is no chance of no lines even with crappy weather.

My best hope is for outright downpours between 7-10am, people would look for other places to go, then nice weather from 12-close.
Everyone tries to get to a parking spot by 6:00 AM! They are not going to give up a good spot just 'cause it's pouring rain. BTW, we are talking Florida here. It's flat, there is no drainage for rainwater. Get half an inch of rain and you'll start your Everglades tour early. Your rental car does float doesn't it? Watch for poisonous snakes in that floadwater, and big gators. Prolly want be a problem, your flight out of PA is prolly cancelled already ;-)Quote: GWAEMy best hope is for outright downpours between 7-10am, people would look for other places to go, then nice weather from 12-close.
And have you seen the latest hurricane forecast?
Have a great vacation!
2F
2-9am there is a 90-100% chance of storms. I think that is the best possible scenerio. Then the rest of the day is only 10-20%.
I did check the hurricane forecast for you, all clear for Florida at the moment...
I looked back at him like he had 7 heads and was like wtf you talking about. It is 80 degrees and blue skis. He said it rolled through over night and thus was the beautiful weather that they leave behind. Later that day I went about a quarter mile out into the ocean and almost died because the waves were 20 foot tall and the undertow was crazy. Public service announcement, never swim in the ocean hours after a hurricane.
The flight there was fine. I planned the flight back perfectly. It was flying out at about 9:30am to Chicago. It had a 6 hour layover there. So I was going to sneak out and go visit the Rivers there and then head back. Well I got to the airport and the flight was cancelled because of weather. I look on the news and Chicago is getting like 6 inches. I mean really? The soonest they can fly me out is another 12 hours via LAX. I go to the AA counter and they have a flight leaving in a few hours but it's $150 more than Spirit is offering as a refund. So I go back to the strip for a few hours. I get back at 7pm and the flight is delayed another 3 hours. Then the connecting plane comes and we're waiting another 90 minutes because they can't fuel the plane until paperwork comes. I'm in retail so I'm pretty accomodating but that's a little rediculus. It was the same crew from the flight coming in and then the next two and you could tell they were tired too. I've never really had a bad flying experience before. Granted I only fly once or twice a year.
Quote: GWAEBut in this case I think there extenuating circumstances it's only 6 inches but I am sure that plays havec on flights. Not sure if spirit is responsible for clearing their snow or if it is the airports. If it is the airport in would assume they take care of the big boys first so spirit gets delayed first.
The airport clears the snow. The airlines have no control over that. But the "big boys" wouldn't get priority, either. That's illegal from the airport/ATC/gov't of any level to do. The airport will set arrival and departure rates based on conditions like how many runways and taxiways are open and which airways are not blocked by weather, which changes hour to hour. It's likely the airport was never completely closed, but they have to close a runway to plow it, or the taxiway leading to or from it, so that makes a partial closure (it's just easier for the airline in the waiting area to say "the airport is closed for snow" than this longer explanation). When they do that, it lowers the arrival and departure rates for the airport.
What the airlines do control, though, is they swap slots based on connections, number of passengers inconvenienced, other factors. The airlines have representatives in the flow control facility near DC, and they are constantly switching slots among themselves, both of their own roster of flights, or between carriers. When the flow slowed down the arrival rate below the scheduled arrivals at Chicago (probably affected both O'Hare and Midway), everybody got delayed a certain (same) amount; then the swapping would result in some being bumped forward or not delayed at all, at the expense of others.
