Let's examine why your friend says otherwise. He was probably pretty adamant about it, right? In life we often find our own experiences, and those of people we want to trust, might be a better source of information than, say, the government. So players like your friend is that way, maybe after realizing something like the fact the casino pushes slot play just because that's how they soak people the fastest. But they won't tell him what is best to play, or might try to mislead him even at the point of accepting he's on to them about slots. On his own, he feels his method is better than what you've found out. He didn't keep statistics, but remembers getting murdered playing the way you described [and you, sir, better realize you are describing putting a lot of money in action.] Going on his selective memory [look that up if you need to] he feels he has done better with placing those numbers. It's not impossible, either, that he literally has done better. It's just that he is usually going to be wrong most sessions.
Quote:I didn't know you could play craps without betting either pass or don't pass
This is only true when you are shooting. Any other time you can place a bet only on what suits your fancy.
where did you read this?Quote: blriegerSo I was telling a friend about this website, where the best odds when playing craps are to play the don't pass line, take max odds on don't pass, and don't come bets with odds.
or did you not understand what was written?
it can not be right
one large bet has the best odds over many similar smaller bets
the Wizard said this B4
"Optimal strategy in craps is pretty simple.
Bet the don't pass and/or don't come and back it up laying the maximum odds. "
of course, the Wizard has his opinion too
super superQuote: blriegerHe was telling me to win the most money, he bets on the 6 & 8, and that is it.
good for him
another opinion too
we all have have "at least one"
again, his opinionQuote: blriegerDo not bet the pass or don't pass.
you should thank him for sharing it with you
fun learning new thingsQuote: blriegerI didn't know you could play craps without betting either pass or don't pass.
define "better"Quote: blriegerIs this a better way to play?
i say making Lay bets are the most fun and the best way to play for me
that is my personal opinion
just have fun playing your way
and that is how?
thank you for sharing
Back to what the wizard is saying the best odds in craps are, bet don't pass and don't come with max odds on both, when I was out in Vegas, the dealer was telling me that on the don't come bet, if a 6 or 8 come up, take no action because you don't want to bet those numbers. Is he correct, or would you guys take the risk of getting against a 6 or 8?
Thanks
Quote: blriegerYes, I understand it was just my friend's opinion. I just wanted to get someone else's take on it. Thanks.

I hope you aren't just putting us on, asking questions like these.
Maybe not, dealers do say these things.
Ummmm, have you spent no time at Wizardofodds.com? Anybody who does soon knows without having to ask. Ask this dealer, "isn't the 7 the most likely number to be rolled?" and see what he says. I would guess 90% of the dealers who give you this notion know they are giving you bad advice. They do have to often observe the wishes of the great numbers of darkside players who do always "take no action" on 6 and 8. The selective memory of those players has told them they are so unlucky that some supernatural, invisible creature standing nearby sees to it that when *they* bet those numbers, the 6 and 8 now are more likely to come up than a 7 ... an invisible hand reaches down and changes the random results. You would think people who considered themselves unlucky would never step inside a casino.
Quote:would you guys take the risk of getting against a 6 or 8?
If you could just play next to a darkside player who takes no action, and get him to agree to sell you his bet instead [he won't because he sees no advantage to it*] you would be playing at a player's advantage that all the card counters in BJ only dream about in their wildest dreams. Does that answer your question?
*if the bet is large enough, you could offer him a small reward when you win and still have the edge on your side
old male, young male?Quote: blriegerwhen I was out in Vegas, the dealer
more than one?
many experienced DC bettors and even some DP tooQuote: blriegerwas telling me that on the don't come bet, if a 6 or 8 come up, take no action
because you don't want to bet those numbers.
will always say "no action" on the 6 or 8
this MAY go back to the beginning of the DP/DC in the early 1900s
they do not like to lose that often i guess
correct means?Quote: blriegerIs he correct,
if you do not like to lose bets, he could be correct
the simple answer is one then has 6 ways to win and ONLY 5 ways to lose that bet.Quote: blriegeror would you guys take the risk of getting against a 6 or 8?
the 5 ways makes many feel real bad at each loss i still guess
=============================
now,
when one has the advantage , the more bets are made the chances of showing a net LOSS decreases
so answer this
say you have the chance over the next 110 DC bets on the 6or8
what do you think is your chance to show an overall LOSS from them?
think of every possible way this can play out and for fun
give an answer
MAYbe
greater than 50%
abouts 50%
abouts 40%
something else?
ands
next time you have the chance, ask a bunch of craps dealers the same question
and i bet $1.98 all will not know the correct answer
i had to calculate it and i was kind of close
