Came across this topic in a Blog HERE.

I have eaten at several of their suggestions, but also have no interest in going to some of the other ones. But to each his own.

The ones that would have been on my list include:

1) Ellis Island, Breakfast Special or Sirloin Special
2) Palms Buffet, especially on certain promo Days (50+ club, etc)
3) Earl of Sandwich (Planet Hollywood)

What I would like to know are some locals joints. Every time I am there I like to get off the strip for a day, or at the minimum and afternoon.

Why so many crappy buffets? None of those buffets I would consider "good." (Although, they are great value for the money. And with any amount of play at all you shouldn't be paying a dime for them.)

He left out all the good Asian restaurants on Spring Mountain, though to be fair, not all of those are cheap.

I've had the pasta special at Planet Dailies; the sauce was way too spicy. I've also been to Earl of Sandwich at PH; maybe it was an off day, but the bread seemed stale.

The last time I had a $10 meal on the strip that I can remember is when there was a Wienerschnitzel in the food court above M&M World.

What's the going rate for 100 McNuggets on the Strip? It's $12.50 pretty much everywhere else. Speaking of which, I'm sure you find a "hearty meal" for under $10 at the food court at Fashion Show Mall; for example, a couple of dogs and a lemonade at Hot Dog On A Stick.

I definitely wouldn't call Earl of Sandwich "hearty"...not for sub $10 anyway.

Yeah fair enough. I had a meatball sub sandwich there last time. It looked NOTHING like the fancy picture of it that they had on the menu board !

How about Buldogi's Gourmet Hot Dogs on S. Ft Apache Rd? I'm a hot dog freak. I'll be there in a week and going to try it.

I don't like south point buffet. Whenever the salad bar is bad that tends to leave a negative impression of the entire buffet to me since it's the first place I go. The salad bar isn't very good and THEY USE CANNED FRUIT. The only other place in Vegas that I recall having primarily canned fruit it silver sevens, which is probably my least favorite place to eat. Does anyone else think silver sevens smells like a mixture of stale smoke and vomit?

We ate the breakfast buffet at Gold Coast when we stayed there on April 1st. It did not kill us. Given the effort put into the breakfast dishes, I would hesitate to return for lunch and wouldn't touch dinner.

You should try Bachi Burger then too.

The best meals I had in Vegas are

The Wok in MGM Grand (not 100% on the name). I had sashimi: best I ever had.

This Asian burger place in between flamingo and linq. I forgot what kind of burger I had, but it was very interesting. And the bun was good too. It was crusty on the edges, I think they deep fried the edges or something?
